University of Iowa becomes
first public university to
ask applicants if they’re gay

IOWA CITY, Iowa— The University of Iowa has become the nation’s first public university to include optional questions about sexual orientation and gender identity on its application, a move hailed Wednesday by advocates hoping to improve the college experience for gays and lesbians. University officials say the move sends a strong signal that they value the diversity that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students bring to campus. They say that knowing some students’ sexual orientation will allow them to track their enrollment and graduation rates

Is nothing sacred or private anymore? All this to pander to maybe 2% of the population? Guess it is clear where their academic philosophy lies. Mamas don´t let your babies grow up to be Hawkeyes.

Government applications of all kinds shouldn´t ask any questions about race or now, sexual orientation. If a person applies for a government benefit is should be administered on a color and sex blind method. To do otherwise is a violation of equal protection against heterosexuals and white conservatives

I despise whole idea of diversity,it´s a liberal creation based on skin and not diversity of thought which would really enrich the school´s environment. All this crap leads to reverse racism which the SC has rejected many time. Affirmative action smoothly evolved into diversity which is an absurd concept. Why don´t these universities have quotas for conservative students?

If gays qualify for college admissions it should be merit based. I don´t see how being gay alone brings diversity to the table. This is the reason Obama took over college loans for idiotic social engineering which does the student no good at all.

the left thinks a merit based society is unfair. If you´re a failing individual, liberal utopinaism gives you equal standing a with an achiever.

The only reason for gun registration is eventual gun confiscation.

The only reason for recording sex, age, race and sexual orientation is for segregation.

And how does asking a question ´send a strong signal?´

U of Iowa must have a large grant to track GLBT admissions. Nowadays, you have to be out of the norm to get attention and assistance.
I´m conducting a personal experiment when dealing with utilities, bureaucrats and communications companies. If I need help I initially pose as AnyNormalPerson...and I get automated voicemails or eventually an inflexible agent who´s unwilling to provide options about my requests.
I then make a second call to the same office. I "become" a minority of some type and whammo! Within minutes, I am connected to the most compassionate, caring rep who will bust a gut trying to demonstrate how wonderful Comcast (the water department, tax assessor etc ) is, and I get special assistance AND follow up calls to be sure I was treated fairly.

asking for personal information to supposedly ´improve´ the experience or what ever cockamanie excuse is collection of information that no public institution (or private one, for that matter) needs to have access to. are you gay? do you have guns? do you have a religious afflilation? lots of questions that no one needs to have access to the answers.

More info to pigeon hole more people. Labeling people, counting them, etc., is a dirty, insidious business. It gets you the opposite of E Pluribus Unum.
I remember going to U.C.L.A. in the late ´60´s and never questioning why a Black or Chicano person was in my classes. By the time I graduated, these groups were by and large hunkered down in groups, often isolated, many secretly in over their heads academically, and you wondered what kinds of breaks they got to even be there. Divisive stuff. Label on, Lefties! Break out the gays now in your misguided attempts to force inclusiveness.

#5, a quick history lesson. Back in the 1950s, the mantra was equal opportunities for blacks. But when that didn´t produce enough black hires or admissions, the 1960s and LBJ brought us affirmative action. And when affirmative action did not bring about the amount of admissions/hires, the mantra switched to diversity, for diversity´s sake, that there was strength through diversity, that diversity, by itself was valuable.
This final position, which will be with us forever, will prevail. Diversity for diversity´s sake. And if anyone has two brain cells to rub together, that person will realize that in real live, we avoid diversity wherever possible, because it is discomfiting.
But the myth will be perpetuated.
Except for basketball and football.

Sadly, to get admitted, you are probably going to have to answer ´´yes´´ to that question.

You know the whole purpose of that question is to make sure that every homosexual that applies gets accepted. That way they can honestly claim that 60% of their freshmen are homosexuals, so that must be the % of homosexuals in the general population of this country. Which, of course, the MSM will immediately start to report as the truth!!!

ARLINGTON — The leading contenders for governor clashed Thursday on public education, as Democrat Wendy Davis called for more money for teachers and Republican Greg Abbott dismissed her proposals as “fuzzy math.” Davis unveiled a plan that would bring teacher salaries in line with the average pay nationwide. She also proposed guaranteeing high school students interested in becoming teachers a spot in college and a job when they finish their studies. Davis would also enhance a state college-loan repayment program for educators. “Education must be the Number 1 priority we address as a state,” the Fort Worth state senator said during a panel

The U.S. State Department warned Americans on Friday of the potential for terrorism at the Sochi Olympics but said it was not aware of any specific threat to U.S. citizens. In a "travel warning," the department urged Americans to be vigilant about personal security at the February 7 to March 14 Olympic Games, and flagged the possibility of petty crime, inadequate medical care and hotel shortages. It also highlighted a Russian law, much criticized by rights groups, that would make it a crime to publicly promote the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. On January 19, 2011, in one of their very first actions after retaking majority control of the House of Representatives, Republicans voted to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. The vote was largely symbolic; no one expected the Democratic Senate to take up the measure. But for the House GOP, the repeal vote was the necessary fulfillment of the core campaign promise that helped sweep them back into power. That promise, however, was only half fulfilled. Republicans had not merely vowed to remove Obamacare; they also said they would pass a program of their own in

Boy, have progressives “evolved.” The party of saloon protesters, suffragettes and crusaders against smoking, prostitution and immigration are now the champions of government-regulated vice. They no longer want to save souls, but use them to increase tax revenue to fund an ever expanding list of new priorities in a turnaround that would likely make Frances Willard, the famous head of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in the late 1800s, reach for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s.
