Is it discriminatory and degrading for toy catalogs to show girls playing with tea sets and boys with Nerf guns? A Swedish regulatory group says yes. The Reklamombudsmannen (RO) has reprimanded Top-Toy, a licensee of Toys"R"Us and one of the largest toy companies in Northern Europe, for its "outdated" advertisements and has pressured it to mend its "narrow-minded" ways. After receiving "training and guidance" from RO equity experts, Top-Toy introduced gender neutrality in its 2012 Christmas catalogue. Headline split by staff

How hard-hearted do you have to be to purposely give a child a toy they don´t want? It´s a toy and it´s supposed to be fun but that seems lost on these overbearing adults who try to run everyone else´s lives but usually can´t run their own. My son´s preschool teacher said it best when she said even if you don´t give boys guns, they´ll chew their bread into gun shapes and use that.

I observed children for five years working in a local health unit that gave WIC vouchers. I can tell you, for a fact!, that boys and girls are definitely different. We had children from newborns to five years of age. As soon as a little girl could toddle around on her own, she would go sit fascinated by newborn carriers and admire the babies. The little boy were barging into chairs, throwing their toys and yelling. They are born different and giving them the toys YOU want them to have won´t change it.

Here´s the solution. You can tear the heads off the dolls and pretend they are grenades. Throw them at your playmates and make the explosion sound. Sometimes a descending bomb whistle also adds to the effect. The legs of the doll can be detached(or brutally ripped off if you prefer) and used as pretend swords or pretend knives. Or even as long guns. And of course any unused body parts can be stacked up to create the walls of your fort. You can use a remaining body part with one leg still attached. Place the back flat on the ground and bend the leg upwards and it becomes a cannon to reign terror down on your playmates. And the bad guys in your pretend playtime war should always be Swedish because they are the easiest to defeat.

Reminds me of the photo yesterday of the 5 year old boy photographed in his family car. He was wearing PINK zebra print slip on shoes. His mom said that zebras are his favorite animal and he did not seem to mind that those were girls shoes. Kids are what they are, and there could be more damage done trying to change the course of their natures then by just leaving them alone. Remember when they used to try to force a lefthander to convert to righthandedness back in the day? Seems those folks grew up to be very accident prone.

I come from a very large family so have had the chance to observe both boys and girls. Little boys have no problem playing with dolls for a time, but eventually make them into some sort of weapon. Little girls like playing with cars and toy guns, but they tend to name them and make up family relationships between them. I never much cared for dolls myself having been raised on a farm with two brothers as my primary playmates, we all liked farm equipment the best. Oh-and, yes, I´ve named every weapon I´ve ever owned. one of my close relatives gave my son a doll, (he was so effeminate you would get a sugar over dose shaking his hand) We took the BB gun I gave him that Christmas and used the doll for target practice his idea not mine, but still had fun just the same. We had to switch to pellets to inflict more damage to the soft plastic but eventually parts were shot off.

Kind of like pretending single mothers or parents of the same sex are ideal families. There are an awful lot of people around the world who don´t understand ´proper´ roles/behavior in life. That´s ok, nature has a way of sorting things out in the end.

My vegetarian niece dresses her kids in organic fiber clothing and feeds them weird free-range kale-type stuff. For Halloween, her 3-year old son was the enchanted frog to his sister’s princess. His everyday wardrobe is natural fiber striped leggings and soft pastels.
Every time I see her Facebook posts I want to shout at her, ‘‘For Heaven sake, buy that boy a GI Joe and feed him a burger!’’ His teenage rebellion is not going to be pretty.

Reminds me of an article I read some time ago. The writer, a mildly hand-wringing lefty (and anti-gun) was concerned that her young son was growing up violent. He wanted a toy gun. She bought him a Barbie-type doll. He took the doll and promptly bent in in half, running around pointing it and going "Pow Pow". Eventually she realized that little boys would never be like little girls and even relented and bought him a toy gun. A pink toy gun.

My son had a doll as a toddler and is today blatantly heterosexual. It was a cheap cabbage patch doll named "Peter Pumpkin".
I did not believe in children playing with toy guns. Not so sure I do today either. But, he was at a friend´s house and saw the toy gun and asked what it was. When he was next at daycare he found "the celery" with the Tiny Tykes plastic toys and turned it into a gun going around saying, "shoot, shoot". He enjoys range shooting today and owns several weapons.

A serious dialogue about parity in the workplace can begin only when we liberate ourselves from the widely propagated but utterly false assertion that “for the same work, women receive 77 cents for every dollar a man earns.” The 23-cent wage gap does not take into account the factors that justify different pay, like occupation, education, tenure on the job, and hours worked per week. Unfortunately, some activist groups cling to the wage gap, insisting that women earn less than men even after controlling for the relevant variables.

It may be gratifying for women to see their husbands loading the dishwasher or folding laundry, but is it sexy? Yes, according to many media stories. “Men: Want More Sex? Do the Laundry” was headline of a 2009 report from CBS News. According to Naomi Wolf, “research has shown that the most erotic thing a man can do for a woman is the dishes.” Sheryl Sandberg, the author of Lean In, agrees.

There is much to admire in Sheryl Sandberg´s book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. It is full of funny stories about her brilliant career and helpful advice for workplace success. As former chief of staff at the U.S. Treasury Department and vice-president of Google, and now COO of Facebook, the 43-year-old billionaire and mother of two has a lot of worldly wisdom to share. She is right that many women sell themselves short and pull back too early from their careers. Sandberg urges them to man up.

Boys score as well as or better than girls on most standardized tests, yet they are far less likely to get good grades, take advanced classes or attend college. Why? A study coming out this week in The Journal of Human Resources gives an important answer. Teachers of classes as early as kindergarten factor good behavior into grades — and girls, as a rule, comport themselves far better than boys.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

Clinton praised her own mother for helping empower her to success and marveled at the opportunities that her own daughter Chelsea has pursued. But Clinton warned that there is still so much to do to promote women´s rights in America. "As I look at all these young women that I am privileged to work with, or know through Chelsea, and its hard to imagine turning the clock on them," Clinton said.

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
