Obama´s Atmosphere of Distrust
Washington Post Writers Group, by Michael Gerson

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 12/11/2012 12:13:41 PM

WASHINGTON -- In order for an ambitious budget deal to emerge, an awkward conversation must take place. House Speaker John Boehner needs to tell President Obama: "I can give some on rates for the wealthy, but I need cover on serious, structural cuts in entitlement programs." The call would be Boehner´s. But the groundwork for that conversation must be laid by the president. And Obama has been actively making it harder for Boehner to cry uncle. Obama´s initial budget offer was a calculated insult, involving, by some accounts, an actual spending increase.

Comments:
It sure is going to be a very long four years.

The GOP can not win this "tax cuts for the wealthy" battle. Move the rates up to 37%, then come back in March (after voters start to see the minimal and even debilitating effect on the economy) to begin the spending cuts battle. There is bottom-up support for spending cuts; the GOP must be the leaders of that.

If Obama and the dems think going over the cliff is better than offering spending cuts now - then let´s do it. The pubbies can take a hit right now and then insist on real tax reform. Nov 2014 is a long, long way away!

Remember the discussion yesterday about university presidents´ salaries? And that like other large corporations, most universities ´gross up´ the salaries of CEOs, to cover the additional income taxes?
That means that in most large organizations, the consumers pay for those ´income tax fairness rates´ on the ´wealthy.´ And surely president zero´s advisors are aware of that fact. In fact, Timmy Geithner´s income tax evasion dealt with that specific ´gross up´ consulting money that he received from the World Bank.
So the fairness discussed is an absolute fraud, and those involved in the negotiations know that.

Why discuss anything? The law to switch back to Clinton rates and end extensions on the Payroll Holiday, unemployment benefits, and Obama´s tax credits for those not paying taxes have already been law for 16 months. The only people who currently trust him, voted for him. Boy are they going to be ticked off.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Tuesday dismissed the goal of 7 million Obamacare enrollees by the end of March as something that the Congressional Budget Office made up. “First of all, 7 million was not the administration. Their number’s all over the board, and the vice president has looked and said it may be closer to 5 to 6,” Sebelius told HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill. Hill asked if she agreed with Vice

WASHINGTON – President Obama has asked the Pentagon to plan for a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year, but continues to leave open the possibility that some troops could remain after 2014 -- options he discussed Tuesday with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. That agreement would allow the U.S. to keep troops in Afghanistan after 2014, but Karzai is refusing to sign it, saying he wants his successor to sign the pact after elections this spring. First lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday called for the federal government to end the marketing of junk foods in schools, a proposal that would eliminate vending machines advertising soda and other promotional material for items not deemed healthy. “The idea here is simple — our classrooms should be healthy places where kids aren’t bombarded with ads for junk food,” the first lady said in an announcement. “Because when parents are working hard to teach their kids healthy habits at home, their work shouldn’t be undone by unhealthy messages at school.” The so-called school wellness policy crafted with the Department of Agriculture would
