Show us ransom note, Mr. President
Politico, by Brad Todd

On Nov. 7, House Speaker John Boehner announced that Republicans in the lower chamber would accept a deal to solve the fiscal cliff that included new revenue, castor oil for conservatives by another name. Four weeks hence, Boehner is still waiting, hand extended, for President Obama to meet him in the middle of the road. Obama has been unwilling to even hint that he’ll ask the same compromise from his liberal base as he expects Boehner to extract from conservatives. Boehner says his negotiations with the White House are at “stalemate” -

The law has passed with bi-partisan approval. Let taxes go to the Clinton levels for all and spending be cut for military and entitlements. Let the People see just exactly what the Democrats consider a plan. Then let the Democrats propose a plan for how they are going to fix their mess and lets the Republicans stand on the sidelines and raise divisive issues. The Dems chose this strategy because they couldn´t agree on one and chose to make the GOP look bad.

Boehner is a fool---he really thinks Obama will keep his promises---IF he makes any--re: spending (the figure the Dems put up now as existing cuts aren´t even real: just not spending quite as much as INTENDED) and will save the man´s bacon, just so the Press will love us. THEY WILL NOT LOVE US no matters hat we do, and will lope Obama,. not seems obvious, even if he dives us off the cliff.

Obama needs to replace Bush as his "go to guy" on why things have not improved under his imperial reign.. "Bush left such a mess that even I, the smartest guy in the universe, didn´t grasp the enormity of the problem I inherited and that I am focused like a laser to solve." But blaming Bush after 4 years of failure grows stale.

Complicating things is that our country is approaching economic stagnation under the Laser King. So to avoid responsibility for pending recession, if not worse, Laser King is focusing on the generic Bush for placing blame. No matter what the Repubs do or don´t do, Obama will blame them for obstructing his policies and programs. "They wanted to go back in the ditch, I fought that, yet I was unable to stop these guys who clearly don´t want me to succeed. That´s why 2014 is so important, for it will support your vote for "revenge" in 2012."

Gawd, we´ve got 4 more years of listening to Obama´s madness and meanness..

Reply 5 - Posted by: Bigfoot, 12/10/2012 8:15:51 AM     (No. 9057369)

Why would any citizen need more money to cut their spending? Just cut. The money saved from the cut then goes to reduce debt. Government is different reality. We hear them claim they cut when it is only a reduction in an increase - no money saved there.

Reply 6 - Posted by: Bur Oak, 12/10/2012 8:28:21 AM     (No. 9057387)

No more secret negotiations.

Reply 7 - Posted by: JackBurton, 12/10/2012 8:34:51 AM     (No. 9057400)

First order of business: Vote Boehner out and put in Ryan.

Second: Do your job. Write bills and pass them... OK so it´s only the House but you gotta start somewhere. Pass the good budget. Pass the tax rate extensions. Eliminate 2/3 of the budget for the EPA, all the Czars, trim the WH staff budget (tell Michele to take a hike... it´s good exercise) etc etc.

Obama is such a twit he´s saving Boehner and the establishment Republicans from themselves. BTW, I´d like to see the Tea Party Repubs have a caucus and draw straws to see who´ll tell Boehner off.

The cry baby should offer Obama immediate drastic spending cuts along with a vague promise to think about tax increases ten years from now. That would be a balanced approach!

This is all for show.

The plan is in place for everyone but the upper 2% to continue with their tax cuts.

Reply 11 - Posted by: marthaville, 12/10/2012 10:01:43 AM     (No. 9057538)

Obama´s plan is to raise the top two rates a few points, but also increase the rate on capital gains and qualified dividend income.

His next step will be to attempt a reduction in itemized deductions (state and local income taxes, real estate taxes, mortgage interest deduction on personal residence, charitable contributions deductions). He needs to increase the various tax rates on higher income individuals (like himself) so he can reduce deductions of the 98% and claim it is not a tax increase. More deception and lies.

Obama knows the real money is spent for Medicare and Medicaid, and repaying the Social Security Trust Funds ($2.7 trillion). No doubt he has a plan to cheat the taxpayers out of benefits they have already paid for (Medicare and Social Security) so he can continue providing freebies to his constituents, namely Obama phones, rent and utility subsidies, free medical care, food stamps, government guarantees of loans for his big campaign donors, and legislation protecting unions.

For those advocating going over the cliff and getting the ´across the board´ spending cuts; entitlements were explicitly exempted from the sequester cuts.

Secretary of State John Kerry is worth some $200 million, give or take a yacht. So his decision to slap a 5% pay cut on himself in solidarity with government employees squeezed by sequestration won’t likely hurt him much. But he’s saving taxpayers another way, too — if unintentionally. And it’s downright troubling. How else is Kerry saving money? He’s failing to hire folks to fill key spots at his agency. Terrific. Think about it: With the North Koreans threatening nuclear strikes against America — and Kerry himself preparing to visit South Korea this week — wouldn’t it be a tad helpful

In March, the number of Americans who dropped out of the labor force increased by 663,000 which adds up to a record 90 million Americans who are no longer looking for employment. Zero Hedge reported: This was the biggest monthly increase in people dropping out of the labor force since January 2012, when the BLS did its census recast of the labor numbers. And even worse, the labor force participation rate plunged from an already abysmal 63.5% to 63.3% - the lowest since 1979!But at least it helped with the now painfully grotesque propaganda

Gonzaga administrators notified the students who had sought the school’s official seal of approval last month, reports The Cardinal Newman Society’s Catholic Education Daily. “The Knights of Columbus, by their very nature, is a men’s organization in which only Catholics may participate via membership,” reads a letter written by Sue Weitz, vice president for student life. “These criteria are inconsistent with the policy

After 69 years, Newt Gingrich is wealthy, a celebrity, and the owner of a tony home in Northern Virginia. His place in the history books, as the leader of the Republican revolution, has long been established. But the former House speaker isn’t ready to fade away. “I don’t rule it out,” he said on Thursday over breakfast, when asked about a future presidential run. He spoke excitedly about his company, Gingrich Productions, and his upcoming trip to South Carolina, where he won the Republican primary last year. Gingrich’s unflagging energy isn’t surprising.

Going with his parental gut, President Obama applauded in 2011 when Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius barred girls under 17 from obtaining the morning-after pill without a prescription. He pictured 10- and 11-year-olds buying pregnancy prevention medicine as easily as bubble gum and drew a line. “As the father of two daughters, it makes sense to apply some common sense,” the President said. Now, a Brooklyn federal judge has ruled that moms and dads — including the ones in the White House — are owed no legal say over whether very young daughters can pop a hormonal contraceptive

It would take superspin powers to portray the March jobs report as anything other than a huge step in the wrong direction. The US economy added just 88,000 jobs last month, 95,000 in the private sector as public payrolls fell by 7,000. The official unemployment rate ticked down a tenth of a point to 7.6%. 1. That is a paltry number of jobs, more or less matching assumed labor force growth per month. So the economy must add at least that many jobs just to keep the labor market at current depressed levels.

Senator Marco Rubio is the man of the hour. He has deftly positioned himself as the indispensable figure in this year’s immigration debate. His participation has given the Gang of Eight approach to amnesty some insulation from grassroots conservative criticism, at least for a time. Liberals in Congress understand that his imprimatur is essential to get Republican votes for the amnesty. But Rubio’s position as a bridge between the parties on immigration means he faces conflicting demands. He wants to ride success on immigration to the 2016 presidential nomination but has also made hard commitments to conservatives

Last week, the Society of Actuaries warned about sticker shock ahead for individuals and families buying health insurance. How did the White House respond? In its usual Orwellian fashion, saying “healthcare costs are falling thanks to the reform law.” Falling is correct only if you’re standing on your head. President Obama repeatedly promised that insurance exchanges will save families up to $2,300 a year. He couldn’t possibly have believed it. From day one, it was obvious the law would push up premiums. That’s because it requires insurers to cover services
