On Thursday, Jonathan Alter took to the pages of Bloomberg to bear solemn witness to the “cruelty, fear, cowardice, xenophobia and disrespect” that have “invaded the inner sanctum of the U.S. government . . . bringing embarrassment and dishonor to what was once the greatest deliberative body in the world: the U.S. Senate.” Alack! What twisted perversions of justice, what dark new reign of tyranny have these one hundred set loose upon the republic? Have the Alien and Sedition Acts been renewed? Have the internment camps been reopened? Has the 13th Amendment been repealed? Worse, friends:

Well, for that sentence alone, it was worth reading this article.=)

It´s not like there isn´t a host of information out there pertaining to misuse of funds under the guise of humanitarian votes.

The U.S. constitution contains language about treaties, giving such treaties the force of law, and the language implicitly calls for federal court review of outcomes of the treaties, even though there is no constitutional language giving the U.S. Supreme Court the power as ultimate arbiter of constitutional issues. (See Marbury v. Madidson, and McCullough v. Maryland)
the Americans with Disabilities Act had broad support, and was passed with good intentions. But it contains, within itself, lots of mischief. So a treaty, once ratified, could be especially difficult and intrusive.
Quick example. In Erie, Pa, a female firefighter became depressed when her dad died, so she tried to commit suicide by committing arson in her father´s house, hoping the fire would kill her. The fire department put out the fire, she was terminated based on the specific language of the ADA, listing pyromania as an excluded disability. She sued, and the jury ruled in her favor. She argued that depression was the reason she was fired, not the arson she committed. The arson was a manifestation of her depression.
The jury bought her argument. The case has been appealed.
Would any member of congress who voted for ADA agree with the jury??? A firefighter who committed arson????

American Medical Association: Obamacare

The American Medical Association is protesting an Obamacare provision it argues will leave doctors with the bill for up to two months of unpaid care. The provision requires insurers to allow patients with federally-subsidized health insurance plans a 90-day grace period to pay their premiums before canceling the coverage. Insurers are on the hook for the first 30 days of care, if the customer never pays up, but doctors will be stuck without payment for any services between 30 and 90 days, until the coverage is canceled. The American Medical Association was a strong supporter of Obamacare. “If a patient

By the time the second World Trade Center tower collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001, the whole world was watching it. We may assume that Vladimir Putin was watching. Mr. Putin, a quick calculator of political realities, would see that someone was going to get hit for this, and hit hard. He was right of course. The Bush presidency became a war presidency that day, and it pounded and pursued the Islamic fundamentalists of al Qaeda without let-up or apology. During that time, it was reported that Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer in East Germany, deeply regretted the fall of the Soviet

Oh by the way, while Washington is debating whether enrollment in Obamacare is terrible or just awful, the Washington Examiner brings to our attention a February 2014 cost report by eHealthInsurance that reveals the premiums for private health insurance policies (those outside of Obamacare) have risen by 39 to 56 percent for individual and family plans. And The Hill’s Elise Viebeck writes this morning that “Health industry officials say Obamacare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.” So Obamacare has resulted in higher costs, limited plans, restricted doctor options, a reduction

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- Two objects spotted in the southern Indian Ocean may be debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Australian authorities said Thursday, fueling hopes of a breakthrough in an international search of unprecedented scale. The objects are indistinct but of "reasonable size," with the largest about 24 meters (79 feet) across, said John Young, general manager of emergency response for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. They appear to be "awash with water and bobbing up and down" in an area 2,500 kilometers (1,500 miles) southwest of Australia´s west coast, he said. "If that piece of the plane is that

WASHINGTON -- The crisis over Crimea is more than a dispute over whether the strategic Black Sea peninsula should be considered Russian or Ukrainian. At its root is a deeper issue: Russia´s simmering anger over its treatment by the West since the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union. Russia´s biggest grievance has been the absorption into the NATO alliance not only of former Soviet allies, such as Poland and Romania, but also three republics that were part of the Soviet Union: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The last straw was a European Union move to draw Ukraine closer to the West through

Apparently, no one at the Ferndale Public School District in Michigan took a civics course or bothered to read their own state constitution — and neither did the union representing teachers in the district. Michigan Capitol Confidential found an interesting, and totally unconstitutional, clause in the contract between the district and the Michigan Education Association local that requires the district to provide “special consideration” to “those of the non-Christian faith” in hiring decisions: The contract ran from 2011 to 2012 but was extended to 2017. Penn is famous—or infamous—for being the chief strategist for Hillary Clinton´s 2008 presidential campaign of inevitability that turned into a colossal failure. That effort was marked by hubris, lousy messaging, poor strategic planning, and legendary internal tensions—including back-biting, leaks, and fierce inside politics—that many within the politerati blamed, fairly or not, on Penn.

President Obama is a gift to Republicans. His policies, his partisanship, his allegiance to liberal interest groups, his indecisiveness — they all have served Republicans well. Without Obama’s self-destructive presidency, Republicans would probably be somber today. Instead they are bursting with optimism about the November midterm election. It didn’t have to be this way. And it wouldn’t be, had the president shown more foresight and less insistence on getting whatever he wanted, pretty much in the form he wanted. Congressional Democrats had a hand in this. But the policies were his. Obama was in charge. He’s responsible. For starters, the

With Tuesday´s primary election past, we know this much: Come January, either Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn or Republican challenger Bruce Rauner will take his oath of office and begin to shape Illinois´ next four years and beyond. Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs.
