Sorry, Democrats: 4 Ways Progressives
Are About to Have Their Hopes Dashed

Atlantic, by Molly Ball

Ever since Election Day, the left has been riding high. Not only did President Obama and Democrats across the country win big on Nov. 6, the president has gratified his base with his tough talk on the fiscal cliff negotiations, and the new Congress looks to be substantially more progressive than the last. But how long will the second honeymoon last for President Obama and the Democrats? Chances are, it won´t be long until the left´s hopes are dashed. Here are four possible letdowns on the horizon. 1. Entitlements: Obama has talked very tough on tax rates for income over $250,000,

This writer is pretty much wrong on all points. Lame speculation and mis-placed optimism. She seems to think that we have honest well-meaning Republicans in Washington. I don´t think so.

Substitute ´Democrats´ for ´Republicans´ and you´re then speaking truth. Since Republicans are barely mentioned in the story, and not praised.

Harry Reid and his band of leftist U.S. Senate malcontents fought, for years, to retain the filibuster. Now, when the filibuster may cause him to lose a bill or two, he wants it discontinued. This is right out of Ted Kennedy´s playbook of political manipulation.

The process in the state of Massachusetts, like most other states, had always been that the governor would appoint a new U.S. Senator when a seat was vacated for some reason.
.... Until Mitt Romney won the governorship, and it appeared that John Kerry would win the presidency. So, Ted Kennedy had the law changed, assuring that Gov. Romney could not name a Republican to Kerry´s seat. Kerry lost.
.... However, after Massachusetts elected Democrat Deval Patrick to replace Romney, Kennedy opted to change the law back again, to assure that the Democrat governor would get to appoint a Democrat Senator.

Fair, legal and honest? Of course not! But the current GOP and justice system continue to allow such unjust activity to continue. It´s disgusting, and I would not be surprised to learn that filibustering has been discontinued for Harry .... until the Democrats are again in the minority.

If we go off the cliff, the low and middle income brackets will see the largest percentage increases. When the Bush rates were proposed, the Dem spin was to compare the dollar value of the cuts. So, if the tax rate went from 10% for the first 20,000 to 5%, they would say that only saved $1,000. But a guy paying the top rate saves 48,000 on the first million above that rate. If we go over the cliff, some taxpayers who have been getting government checks each month are going to have payroll tax increased 2,000 and income taxes go from a credit to withholding each month. They are going to want to know how ´soaking the rich´ is biting their butt.

The first time Ben Novak saw a passenger pigeon, he fell to his knees and remained in that position, speechless, for 20 minutes. He was 16. At 13, Novak vowed to devote his life to resurrecting extinct animals. At 14, he saw a photograph of a passenger pigeon in an Audubon Society book and “fell in love.” But he didn’t know that the Science Museum of Minnesota, which he was then visiting with a summer program for North Dakotan high-school students, had them in their collection, so he was shocked when he came across a cabinet containing two stuffed pigeons,

The Congressional Budget Office has more bad news for President Barack Obama: His economic recovery isn’t working — and is much worse than the previous four recoveries. “More than four and a half years after the end of the recession, employment has risen sluggishly — much more slowly than it grew, on average, during the four previous recoveries that lasted more than one year,” the report reads. The CBO also lent credence to Republican insistence that the small declines in unemployment often touted by the White House are largely because of disenchanted and unemployed people dropping out of the labor force and

The other day I was highly critical of Republicans for not being more vocal in their criticisms of the repulsive comments by rock guitarist Ted Nugent. But at least some Republicans were willing to distance themselves from them. I rather doubt the same will be said of Democrats when it comes to what Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor yesterday, when he targeted conservative philanthropists David and Charles Koch. “It’s too bad that they’re trying to buy America, and it’s time that the American people spoke out against this terrible dishonesty of these two brothers who are

The Oscars are Sunday, and I am not the first or last idiot to draw a parallel to major sporting events like the Super Bowl. Both spectacles get massive TV ratings, there´s a lot of group viewing with pithy comments and mediocre nachos, and the Cleveland Browns have never come close to winning either. This is the part where you exclaim: I am not going to watch the Oscars this year! And yet you do. Come on. You´re not fooling anybody. You´re even picking "Monsters, Inc."—though it came out 13 years ago. The Academy Awards—that´s fancypants-speak for Oscar—are a comforting if maddening

AUSTIN — After failing to reach an agreement with Travis County officials, a popular gun show is moving on. SAXET made a deal to hold their next show at the Ranch Park Events Center in Dripping Springs on March 29th and 30th. That gun show used to be held at the Travis County Expo Center, but SAXET did not agree to terms of the county’s new contract which would have required background checks on all gun sellers at their shows. In a response to KXAN News earlier this month, SAXET said they “cannot accept or enforce a contractual agreement made by two parties

Massachusetts State Representatives, fed up with the lack of progress on the Justina Pelletier case, are circulating a resolution, requesting that the Department of Children and Families (DCF) begin the process of returning the teen to her parents. Justina has been in the state’s care for a year, when doctors at a Boston Hospital decided that she suffered from a somatoform disorder – an illness that is “all in her head” – and that her parents had been abusing her with the medical treatment that had been prescribed by her previous health care providers. A chilling video of Maryland police silencing an innocent student who was recording the arrests of two other people has civil libertarians outraged. The arrests were made at night on the streets of Towson, Maryland. A University of Maryland-Baltimore County student who witnessed the arrests decided to record them using his cell phone. The student, 21-year-old Sergio Gutierrez, was soon approached by officers who objected — wrongly — to his actions. Gutierrez repeatedly told the officers that he knew he had the right to film them, but the cops were prepared to use any excuse to shut him down. First they told
