| A teenage girl is asking the toymaker Hasbro to make a non-gender-specific colored version of its iconic Easy-Bake Oven for her 4-year-old brother so she can “encourage his passion for cooking,” according to the liberal website Change.org, which allows people to launch online petitions. Four-year-old Gavyn Pope asked for the oven for Christmas and his 13-year-old sister, McKenna Pope, was “disappointed that all the Easy-Bake Ovens were pink and purple with images of girls on the boxes,” states a press release issued by Change.org. McKenna is asking Hasbro “to feature boys on their packaging

Most of the top chefs are men. So a boy does not want pink and that is wrong? This is not communism, but capitalist. Maybe Hasbro will see the demand and make a nuetral EBO so boys wont be forced to buy a girlie oven. If not, someone else may make one.

Easy Bake existed when I was a kid. When I asked my Mom to make me a snack after school, she gave me a step ladder.
I started cooking- on the stove- when I was 5.
Of course that was 1970 when men were still men.
#1, they do make male EB ovens.......Viking, Miele, Frigidaire etc........

Maybe camoflage paint and G.I. Joe images?
But having pinup pictures on your oven is a very masculine thing. Just ask the military.
And how dare this activist say purple and pink are not for men? How sexist!!!
HASBRO sells to anyone. No sexism there!

A piece of pink plastic that makes cupcakes via lightbulb is not going to satisfy his "passion" for cooking. Let him help in the kitchen.
Next up, little Suzie has a "desire" to be in combat, but all the GI Joes are dressed in black or green, can you make a gender-neutral uniform?

My nephew loved to pretend cooking when he was a little boy; he also had a Snoopy doll that he dressed up. He is now a colonel in the USAF, very heterosexual in lifestyle and outlook. Children pretend for a variety of reasons, and there´s no harm in an EZ bake oven that is not pink and girlish.

#8: Unreasonable? No. (the request, that is).
Unnecessary? Absolutely.
Who CARES what the color is? My daughter´s Easy Bake is a light / blue-green color, which makes up no more than 25% or 30% of the entire oven, as most of it is white.

My EZ Bake was green. It had no designs on it, as I recall. Looked as much like a real oven as it could.
I see nothing wrong with this request. Lots of little boys like to play with this stuff. It could be a kids´ oven again instead of just a little girls´ oven. And pink and purple are not the only colors for girls. they were never favorites of mine.

#13, MIGHT is the operative word. How do we know that Hasbro has not done extensive market research that shows the fallacy of retooling their plastic extruders and paint run for a de minimis market increase? If their research shows that maybe 20,000 units will be sold, and the outlay is equal to 200,000 units to break even, are we suggesting that they go broke to serve a ´greater social service´??
Hey, Mr. Pope!! Here´s an idea and $4.00..go buy spray paint.

I don´t think I´ve ever seen a toy oven.
But, I´m surprised that Hasbro hasn´t been keeping up with the trends in major kitchen appliances. It´s all black and/or stainless these days.
At least that´s what I see and hear on the HGTV channel.

Let him help in the kitchen. I taught my son to cook and to sew on a button, etc. I figure a guy has to eat too. He should know how to feed himself. My son´s wife loves that he cooks. They share cooking duties. He is also a pretty good baker, having helped me bake for many, many years. I just made him an apron with airplanes on it when he was a little guy. Problem solved.

grill(male) = good, oven(female) = bad ??? Forgive me but as long as the meat gets cooked and the person doing it enjoys what they are doing and is good at it, why is this bad? Give the boys a boys kitchen. Stainless with lots of gadgets and tools. My dh wanted a blender and some bar gadgets to play with in the kitchen to make cocktails and fun party drinks. Had I handed him a pink one I would have probably gotten told off and rightfully so.
As a side note, as a little girl I liked toys guns and bows/arrows and hated dollies.. I still enjoy a day at the range with dh better than just about anything but so help me, hand me a pink gun and I will punch you flat in the nose!!

I agree with poster #2. If he really has a passion for cooking / baking he will use the real stove and oven in the kitchen.
As a kid as far back as I can recall, I loved to come out to the kitchen, help my mom, pay attention to what she was doing, and be lightly supervised as I attempted things myself. I was able to be very hands on. My mom was very accomplished cook, and baker. I listened to everything she had to say, and as an adult guy I can bake and cook very well. I´m not quite as good at cake decoration (she could do wedding cakes) but what I make sure does taste great.
I don´t see anything sissy or girly about a guy being a competent cook or baker. My dad never learned how to cook, and when the two of us went away to the cabin for a weekend (even to this day) I do almost all the cooking.
Besides the nice real stove/ oven in the kitchen is far more accurate than a plastic box with a light bulb. You baked goods will turn out much better.

My 15 year-old grandson plans to become a chef. He’s been cooking at the ‘‘big stove’’ since he was able to climb a stool. He’s also been learning to do woodworking, metalworking and plumbing from his grandmother (me) while his dad is overseas.
Being a capable, self-sufficient being has nothing to do with gender or the color of your tools. If the pink & purple bothers her so much, why can’t MS. Teen Sister grab a can of high temp spray paint and remake the Easy-Bake for her brother? Is she too ‘girly’ for that?

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
