Lawyer: Sandy destroyed clues
Boston Herald, by Laurel J. Sweet

Wind and water damage from superstorm Sandy may have blown away any chance for victims of a nationwide outbreak of fungal meningitis to prove that the Framingham building where New England Compounding Center mixed suspect spinal injections was contaminated, a company lawyer said, even as the Centers for Disease Control report bacteria and mold have been discovered in unopened, recalled vials of heart, eye and skin medicines distributed by the family-owned company. At a hearing in U.S. District Court in Boston yesterday, Magistrate Judge Jennifer C. Boal said she will allow civil lawyers and experts for more than

How dare they try to come up with excuses. There are none. My mentally and physically handicapped daughter received a letter from her retina specialist that they had used eye drops on her from this company. She had just lost one eye due to an unrepairable detached retina, and the other eye was beginning to detach. We certainly didn´t need anything else contributing to making her "good" eye at risk.
So far, so good, no thanks to the company.

An Ohio boy was suspended by his school for giving a student the finger — his index finger. Nathan Entingh, 10, was suspended from Denvonishe Alternative Elementary School last week for three days because he made a gun gesture with his hand and said “bang” when he pointed it at a student’s head. “I was just playing around,” little Nathan told the Columbus Dispatch. “People play around like this a lot at my school.” The behavior rankled school officials, who said that they have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to gun-related jokes and actions.

The Bush family doesn´t waste any time indoctrinating the next generation into the world of politics. George H.W. Bush´s baby great-grandson Prescott joined his father George P. Bush in the voting booth yesterday as daddy runs for Texas land commissioner. Baby Prescott was swept up by his mom Amanda just as dad went into the booth - but he still got an ´I Voted´ sticker. Bush easily won the Republican nomination for the position, and will face former El Paso Mayor John Cook in the general election in November. Either Bush or Cook will replace outgoing Commissioner Jerry Patterson, who

Former IRS official Lois Lerner refused for a second time on Wednesday to testify about her role in a scheme to target conservative organizations that applied for tax-exempt status during President Barack Obama´s first term in office. Lerner risks arrest if she is found in contempt of Congress. The House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee ruled on June 21, 2013 that Lerner, formerly in charge of the IRS´s Exempt Organizations office, waived her right to invoke the Fifth Amendment during a May 22 hearing when she insisted in a lengthy opening statement that she had done nothing wrong. NEW BRITAIN, Conn.- President Barack Obama is making a stop in Connecticut to push for an increase in the federal minimum wage. The Democrat is scheduled to appear Wednesday at Central Connecticut State University for an afternoon address. Gov. Dannel P. The governors of Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island are also expected to attend. CCSU announced Tuesday it was notified by the White House Advance Team that all

House Speaker John A. Boehner said Wednesday that Lois G. Lerner, the woman at the center of the IRS targeting scandal, will eventually have to testify or will be held in contempt of Congress. Speaking to reporters just minutes after Ms. Lerner again invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination at a committee hearing, Mr. Boehner said he would wait for a final report of what happened. But he said he believes she will eventually have to talk. “I’ll wait for a report from Chairman Issa about what happened or what will happen. But at some point I believe that

At BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan — Shortly after midnight on this frigid night, Capt. Nicholas Ingham arrived at this massive air base, in the belly of an Air Force C-130. As the back door swung open, flooding the cabin with light, the heavily sedated Marine, strapped onto a stretcher, blinked away a tear. An American flag tattooed on his chest rose and fell gently as a ventilator pumped air into his collapsed lung. A team of doctors, nurses and medical technicians assigned to the trauma center here gently offloaded Ingham and a handful of other injured troops with mechanical precision,

A senior expert at the firm representing a Northern California couple who discovered buried gold coins worth $10 million says he has not received any credible claims to the huge find and does not expect to. Numerous theories have cropped up since the discovery of the Saddle Ridge Hoard was announced last week. One of them, that the coins were tied to a 1901 U.S. Mint theft in San Francisco, appeared to be debunked Tuesday by the U.S. Mint itself. “We do not have any information linking the Saddle Ridge Hoard coins to any thefts at any United States Mint

After abruptly adjourning his IRS hearing following Representative Elijah Cummings’ (D-MD) vocal criticism of the proceedings, House Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa (R-CA) told reporters that Cummings had “slandered him.” IRS official Lois Lerner invoked the Fifth Amendment in response to Issa’s questions Wednesday morning, following which Cummings demanded time and railed against the “one-sided investigation” that he said was “absolutely un-American.” Issa told reporters outside that he had determined Lerner was not going to answer his questions, and as Cummings was using his allotted questioning time to “make a speech,” there was no reason for the hearing to continue.

We are embroiled in a global conflict, and the supposed “leader of the free world” is taking photo ops at a grade school, making statements about the invasion of Ukraine on a kids’ rug. Meanwhile, Putin incredibly denied that any Russian troops are in Ukraine, and somehow President Barack ‘I-call-the-Russian-invasion-an-uncontested-arrival’ Obama actually thought it was a good idea to set up a lectern on a grade school alphabet mat when the entire world is seeing the consequences of his weakness. This was the guy known for dramatic stagecraft and brilliant political framing, and this is what we get? Just amazing.

Ms. Maddow told colleague Andrea Mitchell that Mr. Bush’s entire Middle East policy has led to several overseas conflicts, from the Iraq War to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine dispute. “The decisions of our generation on national security are determined more than anything by what the George W. The crisis in Ukraine has brought out a fresh round of critics of President Obama´s foreign policy who see a pattern emerging: the president tries to assert his authority and direct events on the world stage with empty threats, which inevitably have no follow through. With each instance, U.S. power grows weaker as foreign powers view Mr. Obama as the president who cried wolf. The latest case: Mr. Obama´s public warning to Russia to stay out of Ukraine was followed by an invasion just days later. It´s just the latest failure, say critics who point to Syria as an example.

At Chipotle, guacamole costs extra - but it soon may not be available at all thanks to climate change. The Denver, Colorado-based chain of Mexican fast-food restaurants threatened to take the condiment off the menu because of the rising price of avocados. While the avocado crop is currently fine, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are predicting drier temperatures will lead to a 40 per cent drop in California´s avocado crop over the next 32 years. Most modern scientists agree that there is a direct correlation between the increase of droughts and global warming, according to Think Progress.
