| WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy added a solid 146,000 jobs in November and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent, the lowest since December 2008. The government said Superstorm Sandy had only a minimal effect on the figures. The Labor Department report offered a mixed picture for the economy. Hiring remained steady during the storm and in the face of looming tax increases. But the government said employers added 49,000 fewer jobs in October and September than initially estimated. And the unemployment rate fell from 7.9 percent in October mostly because more people stopped looking for work and

The headline on Drudge says 540,000 dropped out of the work force - that is why. Gee, if everyone just stopped looking, maybe it would go down to 0%. Barry could be a hero and everyone would be on welfare. No one would care about who pays the bills.

What they fail to mention is 540,000 dropped from the labor force and are not counted among the unemployed. Hence the "improvement". It´s a lie. Don´t look for the truth in the AP or any other mainstream news source, though.

That infestation in our White House - obama -a naional plague of historical proportions seems to have figured out this unemployment problem: Just do all you can to make the economy TANK and soon enough, when you discourage EVERYONE out of the job market, you will have 0% unemployment !!! The plan is working marvelously.

A "solid 146,000 jobs"???
We need to add a minimum of 250,000 every month just to keep up with the number of new entrants into the job market.
How do the "journalists" that write this crap keep their jobs?

Using Obamamath - the fewer people who are working results in an ever-lower unemployment rate. I guess when everyone is sitting at home collecting handouts the unemployment rate will be Zero.

The AP would describe quicksand as "solid" if it helped Obama. Hotair.com provides reality-
The unemployment rate edged down to 7.7 percent in November. The number of unemployed persons, at 12.0 million, changed little. (See table A-1.)
The U-6 figure also dropped by two-tenths of a point to 14.4%, its lowest level all year. However, the seasonally-adjusted labor force dropped by 350,000, and the civilian labor force participation rate also dropped two-tenths of a point to 63.6%, almost at the 31-year low hit in August. The employment-population ratio dropped by one-tenth of a percent to 58.7%.
In other words, America isn’t going back to work. Americans are still dropping out of the work force.

I see various comments indicating people are confused about the Government jobs numbers. One point is that they adjusted the figures for the prior two months. And as noted on other websites, the government figures for the number of people that " dropped out of the work force ", that is, stopped looking for work, escalated greatly. Added all together, the "Rate" drops, but the total number of people either unemployed or not looking to be employed increases. The percentage of people working in the USA vs the total population of people that could be working is extremely low, probably at a record low, but the HEADLINE posted by MSM supporters of the Administration make it look good, when in fact, it is NOT. It is terrible. Bottom line, never has such a low % of the "able to work" population been actually working. The Government Unemployment rate is a red-herring, a ruse.

Just changing the labor force looking for jobs wasn´t enough. Wall Street reports they went back and revised Sept jobs down from 148,000 to 132,000 and Oct jobs down from 171,000 to 138,000. Voila, those 49,000 jobs get moved to Nov and we get unexpected job growth. Then you reduce participation and, Eureka, unemployment falls! Its an error in judgement to believe anything out of this White House.

FTA: "And the unemployment rate fell to a four-year low in November from 7.9 percent in October mostly because more people stopped looking for work and weren’t counted as unemployed." So AP knows what happened.
Yet, the headline reads: "US economy adds 146K jobs, rate falls to 7.7 %." Guess which point makes it into the heads of Obama and his minions, by design.

In documents obtained from the IRS by the ACLU under the federal Freedom of Information Act and posted on the website Wednesday, the agency’s attorneys adopt an extremely aggressive posture toward the requirements the Fourth Amendment might place on its criminal investigators who want to read email or text messages, or use GPS location tracking. “The Fourth Amendment does not protect communications

The State Department has acknowledged that five U.S. personnel killed in Afghanistan, including 25-year-old diplomat Anne Smedinghoff, were on foot when they were attacked by a suicide bomber, and not in an armored vehicle, as officials had told bereaved relatives earlier this week. The violent deaths of U.S. diplomatic personnel — and the State Department’s changing account of how they died — harken back to the debacle in Benghazi, Libya, where Islamist extremists killed four Americans in assaults on the U.S. diplomatic compound on Sept. 11. “We are able to clarify at this point that they were

Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic front-runner in the Virginia gubernatorial race, once made an outlandish claim that would make Mitt Romney cringe. At a debate during his failed 2009 campaign, McAuliffe declared he “created over 100,000 jobs—good-paying jobs with benefits and good wages. That’s what I’ll do as governor.” A Democratic rival scoffed that McAuliffe apparently had created more jobs than Microsoft´s Bill Gates. McAuliffe’s campaign on Wednesday did not respond directly to questions about whether he stands by the 100,000 jobs—the same number Republican presidential nominee Romney struggled to defend in the 2012 campaign.

WASHINGTON— Gun control supporters have won the first Senate showdown over restricting firearms, rejecting an effort by conservatives to derail a package of gun curbs before debate could even begin. The 68-31 vote gave an initial burst of momentum to efforts by President Barack Obama and lawmakers, mostly Democrats, to impose gun restrictions following the December carnage at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Gun control supporters needed 60 votes to block the conservatives. The legislation would subject more firearms buyers to federal background checks, strengthen laws against illicit gun trafficking and increase school safety aid.

Welcome to a brave new "national conversation" that proposes not simply to redefine the family, but to eliminate it. MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry recently shocked millions with her brazen TV promo spot urging us to get rid of the idea that kids belong to their parents or to "private" families. She presses us to replace it with a "collective" notion of children: "Kids belong to whole communities." Clearly, we are entering a new phase in family breakdown. In the earlier phases, leftist policies cultivated unrestrained sexual license, abortion and single parenting.

Some Republicans still cling to the hope that they´ll be able to repeal Obamacare someday, but a report released Wednesday by Families USA shows why it may be even harder for them to do so after Jan. 1. The report estimates that nearly 3 million Californians could be eligible for generous insurance subsidies under the 2010 healthcare reform law, starting next year. Anyone with an income between one and four times the federal poverty line -- in other words, between $23,550 and $94,200 for a family of four -- could receive a tax credit that reduces monthly premiums dramatically.

Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”
