Christie: Nope, we won’t be building a state exchange in New Jersey

| Oh, the fall from Beltway media grace shall be sharp and swift for the country’s most popular Republican. Christie’s decision comes in ahead of the Health and Human Services already postponed deadline of Dec. 14. It also comes on the same day Christie is meeting with President Obama about aid for Hurricane Sandy recovery. Would that be the opposite of a hug? The governor today vetoed state-exchange legislation from his state assembly— a revised version of bill he vetoed in May— and says it comes down to insufficient information from the federal government

There are over 600 pages of federal regulations you have to comply with to set up an exchange. It´s complex and costly. Maryland started almost 2 years ago and they´re not close.

What would be the logic of ANY state forking out the money and effort to crank up a State Exchange, if they they have to run it at the Fed´s direction and have little or no say-so in its operation??? Or it this just more clever Leftist chicanery to move us toward National Healthcare?

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court may have an unexpectedly decisive role in helping to determine whether 11 million people who are in the U.S. illegally are allowed to remain without fear of deportation. The nine justices who are debating the merits of a law whose provisions include preventing U.S. citizens from sponsoring same-sex spouses for green cards could, depending on their ruling, eliminate or fuel a lingering controversy that some immigration proponents fear might kill efforts to overhaul the nation’s immigration system. If the Supreme Court rejects a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act,

Northern California’s first pot farmers’ market is like most other farmers’ markets, except you buy weed instead of kale and there’s the possibility you’ll go to prison – which gives visits to the Organicann Harvest Market in Sonoma County a bit of an edge this chilly morning. Driving through Sonoma’s famed pastures and rolling vineyards, I note billboards advertising casinos and hydroponics — a favored tool for cultivating pot indoors. This is pot country as much as wine country. Marijuana is the second most-popular intoxicant in the world (after alcohol) and largely legal

President Obama played his strongest card this weekend in the ongoing struggle over gun control legislation when he had one of the parents of the victims of the Newtown massacre deliver his weekly radio address. Francine Wheeler, the mother of one of the 1st-graders murdered at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in December delivered an impassioned plea for Americans to join in support of what she and the White House termed the president’s “common sense” proposals. The speech was both eloquent and deeply moving and, like the effects of some of the lobbying visits to members of the House

Nowata, Okla., and Charleston, S.C. — There are two houses, a thousand miles apart, that each contain a child’s play kitchen, a wall of toys and portraits of the same dark-eyed, curly-haired little girl. In one lives a couple named Matt and Melanie Capobianco, who cared for the girl from the time she drew her first breath until 27 months later, when the courts said she must be returned to her biological father.“We want things to be familiar to her when she comes home,” said Melanie Capobianco. “I know she’s going to know her home and family.”

Discovery Channel released a sneak peek of the ninth season of its hit series “Deadliest Catch,” but one star is clearly missing from the show promo. Captain Elliott Neese is nowhere to be found as the boats prepare to head out to sea, and his absence quickly becomes a hot topic of conversation among the skippers. “Elliot should be here. He should be ready to go,” cast member Scott Campbell mused during the clip. Captain Sig Hansen seems less concerned, suggesting Neese lost his boating job. “I am kind of not surprised that Elliot isn’t here this year,” Hansen said.

Austin, Texas - SINCE February, the North Korean government has followed one threatening move with another. The spiral began with an underground nuclear test. Then the North declared the armistice that ended the Korean War invalid. The young dictator Kim Jong-un followed with a flurry of threats to attack civilian targets in South Korea, Japan and the United States. Earlier this week, North Korea closed the Kaesong Industrial Complex, the only facility where citizens from North and South Korea work together. And now the North is openly threatening (and visibly preparing) to fire a mobile-launcher-based Musudan missile

Sunday’s New York Times magazine features an interview with disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner, which Weiner granted in a bid to gauge if the public is ready to accept him back in public life. The Weiner piece comes in the wake of the arrest of state Sen. Malcolm Smith for trying to buy his way onto the Republican mayoral primary ballot. His indictment left many asking, “Why is New York so corrupt?” The answer may lie in the careers of people like Weiner and Smith. Both the ex-congressman from Queens and the state senator are part of an expansive and expensive

We hate to break it to the hungry, huddled masses that routinely seek out House side eateries for sustenance, but when it comes to that guiltiest of pull-apart pleasures, fried chicken, you should be calling “fowl.” Mind you, it’s not that the picnic staple is not available to rank-and-file patrons in either chamber. But the dining experience varies wildly depending on where you are perched. The Golden Brown Standard To be fair, the governing bodies in charge of catering to each side of the Capitol blatantly advertise that they’re serving competing foodstuffs. “House Fried Chicken” is all you’ll get from the Capitol Market

Disgraced former cyclist Lance Armstrong is liquidating some assets amid the Texas-sized legal woes that may end up costing him the lion´s share of his ill-gotten gains. Armstrong is selling his palatial home near Austin, Texas, potentially freeing up a few million bucks that various plaintiffs will surely try to retrieve for themselves. Among those suing Armstrong is the Department of Justice, which seeks tens of millions of taxpayer dollars that went toward sponsoring Armstrong´s corrupt U.S. Postal Service cycling team.According to the Austin American-Statesman, businessman Al Koehler filed a deed of trust in Travis County last week

As John Ekdahl says, it’s awfully hard not to see a cynical motive in a conservative senator from a blue state suddenly “evolving” on gun control. I can’t believe I’m saying this after spending years rooting for Toomey primary challenges to Arlen Specter, but … is someone going to end up primarying Pat Toomey? Or will Pennsylvania conservatives follow the Scott Brown rule and stay out of his way in the belief/knowledge that no one they nominate will have a better chance of winning their state than the current somewhat unsatisfactory Republican incumbent? Matt Lewis identifies Toomey and immigration point

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky took his message of GOP inclusion to historically black Howard University Wednesday, where he received a polite but tough reception. It was likely the fairest hearing any prominent Republican was going to get, given the GOP´s long-standing struggles with African-American support. And the fact that Paul decided to speak at Howard in the first place did more for him and a party focusing on minority outreach than anything he actually said. "Some have said that I´m either brave or crazy to be here today," he told the audience of faculty and students.

But Levin called the situation “fascism.” “Well, it has come to my attention that there is a Republican congressman out there who doesn’t like what I’ve been saying,” Levin said. “It has come to my attention that there is a

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

The relative, speaking to the Daily News, claimed that mass murderer Lanza was taunted and attacked by fellow students at his childhood alma mater. “Nancy felt fiercely protective of him,” the relative said. “She was convinced the school wasn’t doing enough to protect Adam. It made her irate.” Nancy Lanza — gunned down by her 20-year-son to start his Dec. 14 rampage — even tagged along with Adam to school

The impending introduction of legislation to overhaul the country’s badly strained immigration system received an extraordinary endorsement on Sunday from Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who, after holding back for weeks, appeared on no fewer than seven television talk shows to explain and defend a plan that he said would be “a net positive for the country, now and in the future.” It was a striking show of confidence from Mr. Rubio, one of eight members of a bipartisan Senate group that has been crafting a plan to provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants;

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
