Special Report: Amazon´s
billion-dollar tax shield

Reuters, by Tom Bergin

Original Article

Posted By:abuela10, 12/6/2012 1:18:22 PM

In 2005, Amazon rented a historic five-storey building in Luxembourg´s Grund quarter, right at the bottom of a steep rock-walled valley below the old town. By setting up in Luxembourg, and channelling sales through its units there, the world´s biggest online retailer could minimize corporate taxes. It was a move with big financial consequences. Amazon´s Luxembourg arrangements have deprived European governments of hundreds of millions of dollars in tax that it might otherwise have owed, as reported in European newspapers.

Morons still think corporations pay taxes. And that neither those taxes, nor even-higher ones, affect the price of the product.

I wonder... could I better-tolerate morons if being a moron also meant you would also be sterile?

Decapitate Amazon leadership. Navy Seals could do that in hours.

Yes, it is a nasty job but it must be done. Governments are being deprived. Think of that horror for a moment.

Besides Amazon and Luxembourg both have too much money.

Luxembourg must be destroyed. Even the feeble European armies should be able to erase the tiny, mad-dog, rogue state from the Earth.

It would also be a good warning to those who don´t pay enough taxes elsewhere.

Another liberal Democrat company looking to save taxes.

But, it´s good for everyone else though, right?

Just like Larry Ellison paying his 2013 dividends in 2012 to avoid the increase expected on dividend taxes from the Democrats.

I can´t blame a company for trying to minimize their tax bite. As a poster said, corporations don´t pay taxes, their customers pay the taxes. So Amazon is saving their customers millions of dollars. Millions that would otherwise go into government ratholes to be p@@@@@d away.

Sounds OK to me.

I don´t think enough people have IQ´s high enough to comprehend that Taxing the Rich only taxes us more. If a product you buy, for a hypothetical example, increases by 30% since he increased that percent to cover his tax bite.

If costs go up due to higher taxes, who are you going to blame, the Rich or will you have the courage to look in a mirror?

ALBANY — New York, whose status as the most populous state has long been ceded, will soon fall behind Florida into fourth place, a long-anticipated drop that is rife with symbolism and that could carry potentially serious economic consequences in coming years. When the Census Bureau releases its latest population estimates on Monday, demographers expect that Florida and New York will be narrowly separated — perhaps by as little as a few thousand people — and that if Florida does not pass New York this time, it almost certainly will do so in 2014. The census figures underscore immigration trends, as foreign-born migrants continue to

The Oscar-winning film director Charles Ferguson has cancelled his CNN documentary on Hillary Clinton after what he described as a private campaign against the film by prominent Democrats. Ferguson said he had decided to pull the plug after being met with a wall of silence from more than a hundred people who refused to be interviewed for the documentary. He claimed that aides to the former secretary of state put pressure on CNN behind the scenes, and made clear that Clinton would only co-operate "over my dead body". He also blamed a public campaign by Republicans, who claimed the film would be

When Ted Sarandos put out the word that Netflix would begin producing original shows, he was swamped with story pitches that everyone else in Hollywood clearly had taken a pass on — including some scripts marked with coffee stains, smudged fingerprints and other telltale signs of rejection. That all changed in 2011 after Netflix bought the political thriller "House of Cards" from "The Social Network" and "Fight Club" director David Fincher.

The crisis in Ukraine has brought out a fresh round of critics of President Obama´s foreign policy who see a pattern emerging: the president tries to assert his authority and direct events on the world stage with empty threats, which inevitably have no follow through. With each instance, U.S. power grows weaker as foreign powers view Mr. Obama as the president who cried wolf. The latest case: Mr. Obama´s public warning to Russia to stay out of Ukraine was followed by an invasion just days later. It´s just the latest failure, say critics who point to Syria as an example.
