I agree with #5. These workers will be paying more in taxes and supporting local businesses far more capably than if they´d been forced to take jobs at Walmart (where they´d likely be on foodstamps).

So they forced freight to go to Canada to keep their jobs from being lost to Canada?

Re #1, attitudes like that are scary for the lack of knowledge they display. The Port of Los Angeles is one of the main ways in and out of the United States as a whole. Its paralysis shuts down the shipment of American production to the rest of the world on the Pacific side.

And why anyone who can look up numbers knows that all Californians are not responsible for what goes on their politically is beyond my ken. We all did not "build this". And our numbers are in the many millions.

We have excuses for many things we do and say. Blind ignorance of the facts is not an excuse.

#´s 5 & 6, I´d explain the junction between the higher rates and lower economic activity that will produce LOWER tax revenue´s but as you are both products(obviously) of the Edumacational Sistem(TM)given us by the democrats, you would not understand.

According to the article their beef was that they were increasingly being replaced by workers in other countries or other lower-paying states as they retired or were off on their extended vacations and so forth.

Apparently their rather complicated work is computerized to the extent that it can be handled from any location, not just at the local Port offices. They say outsourcing has occurred, that they have proof; the Port says no.

The reason a relatively small union can paralyze a port is that they are pretty much the nerve center of the entire operation. And then the other unions join in.

The unions have far too much power no matter where in our country they exist. There was a time long ago when they served a useful purpose. That is long past. Now they are a power force, a political force, that would shape our country. Politicians like Jerry Brown and Obie know that.

I have an odd feeling that some didn´t read the article so don´t understand what #5 and #6 were talking about.

When the widening of the Panama Canal is complete, ship traffic will increasingly arrive at Gulf Coast (aka The Third Coast) ports located in right-to-work states.

It´s possible you are unaware of the Stevedore issues that predicated the usage of conatinerized shipping models.

See, it was STRIKING UNION members that forced the change way back when......and the continued demands that keep them looking for OTHER ports.
