GOP: Beware the enemy within;
stand for what you believe

Human Events, by M. Stanton Evans

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 12/5/2012 12:28:33 PM

The Republican Party’s must reject its leaders’ cringing defeatism over the fiscal cliff talks. Consider the situation: With a president from one political party and a House speaker from the other, some kind of compromise should obviously be needed to pass tax hikes and other major pieces of legislation. That being so, the president would have to make concessions to Congress and not cling dogmatically to his position concerning taxes. In the end he would reluctantly yield to this advice and agree to back off from his long-held views, in exchange for spending measures supposedly accepted by the speaker.

Comments:
The Republicans have lost their way because the RINO´s have been in control for way too long. The "moderates" are no different than "Blue Dog Democrats." There is no one in Washington who represents conservatives. They are treated like the ugly stepsister.

The current GOP "leadership" is more concerned with holding onto their jobs, perks and getting the occasional ride on AF1 than doing what is right.

They´re terrified of getting blamed if we go over the fiscal cliff. What they ought to say is "if the American people want Sweden-style government, they need to understand that they have to pay for it with higher taxes. End of discussion."

The Marxist fanatic at 1600 Road-to-Serfdom brings to mind what John Adams said about Elbridge Gerry: that he would risk great things to win small things. Republicans must realize this and call his bluff.

Conservatives have two choices. We can follow the admonition of the Establishment apologists and work to take back the GOP precinct by precinct, county by county, state by state, and maybe, if we behave ourselves, we might wrest control from the Wall St. - DC crowd. Perhaps in a few decades. Of course, there´s nothing to stop the moneyed interests from seizing control right back, as happened with the Goldwater, Reagan, and Tea Party efforts. The reasons why were different, but the result was the same.

The natural state of the modern GOP is to be the party that first and foremost protects the interests of their financial backers - the wealthy. This is starkly evident in the insistence of the current GOP leadership to "go to the mat" to protect the tax rates for the highest income brackets.

The other choice is to "bite the bullet" and form a new conservative party of, by, and for the great middle class. Draw from Tea Party Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats. In the short run, this concedes the next election or two to the Democrats. Considering the wobbly nature of the GOP, what difference would that make anyway? Republican "leaders" are becoming no more than the Democrats´ "b-tches".

A new party has a chance, however, of denying either of the two "big tents" a clear working majority. This would provide leverage. Conservatives will be needed to sign on if anything is to be passed. If the Pubs team up with the Dems, then they become politically redundant and will go the way of the Whigs.

If there are no more elections, then all of this will be moot. Other measures will be in order.

There are no easy choices anymore.

The GOP`s `cringing defeatism` is a done deal. Its been years in the making but is now etched in stone. Expect only the worst. Boehner`s only concern is striking a deal to kick the can down the road. As a long time member of Congress he has been institutionalized, kind of like a convict who has served 20 years in prison. After a while, its all you know an understand. The outside world means nothing.

The Council on American Islamic Relations, CAIR, claims to be an anti-defamation organization. In fact, as we shall see, it is anything but. CAIR was founded in 1994 by Nihad Awad and Omar Ahmed, who had ties with the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), which was established by the terrorist organization Hamas. Therefore, it is an outgrowth of the IAP. It opened its first office in Washington, D.C. with a donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, the largest Islamic charity in the U.S. CAIR should be, but is not, registered as a foreign agent. In 2009, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) apologized profusely to the White House for shouting, "You lie!" as President Barack Obama told Congress that Obamacare would not cover illegal immigrants. Now it would appear that the White House owes Wilson an apology, as Covered California--the flagship of state Obamacare exchanges--is recruiting illegal ("undocumented") immigrants to sign up for the program, regardless of their eligibility. The Covered California website includes a special page entitled: "No temas si eres indocumentado/a y quieres inscribir a tu familia en un seguro médico" ("Fear not if you are undocumented and want to enroll your family in health

New information about the intelligence available in the immediate aftermath of the Benghazi attack raises questions about whether the former No. 2 at the CIA downplayed or dismissed reporting from his own people in Libya that it was a coordinated attack and not an out-of-control protest over an anti-Islam video. Then-Deputy Director Mike Morell, whose own agency lost two employees at Benghazi, former Navy Seals Ty Woods and Glen Doherty, was heavily involved in editing the administration’s internal narrative on what happened – known as the “talking points” – which served as the basis for then-U.N. He just doesn´t understand the branches of government or the Constitution." Brady said Congress in theory has the power to stop Obama, but Senate Democrats are making that impossible. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) delivered a message to Tea Party critics when he cast a decisive vote Wednesday that led to Senate passage of a debt-ceiling hike: Bring it on. In perhaps his most defining moment in the 113th Congress, McConnell strode up to the dais and declared his “aye” vote in a clear voice heard throughout the chamber. It broke the impasse and seven more Republicans soon voted as well to end the filibuster. It was a risky decision for McConnell, who is facing a difficult primary battle from businessman Matt Bevin, a conservative backed by Tea Party groups. McConnell’s

Iranian oil exports soared in January, hitting new highs just months after the United States consented to billions of dollars in economic sanctions relief under the interim nuclear deal. Exports of Iranian crude oil jumped to 1.32 million barrels, up from December’s high of 1.06 million barrels, according to data from the International Energy Agency. The spike in exports—mainly to Japan, China, and India—has helped Iran’s once-ailing economy stabilize and decrease inflation. Iranian oil exports have steadily risen since negotiations with the West restored confidence in Tehran’s economy. With the House passing the “clean” debt ceiling bill and sending it to the Democratic-controlled Senate, it was clear that this particular bill was going to be passed and sent to the president for his signature.
