Prosecutors released the latest cache of evidence in the George Zimmerman murder case on Tuesday, including new details of Zimmerman´s interest in law enforcement and testimony alleging racism and sexism in the Sanford Police Department. Among the new documents were FBI reports, (Snip) including interviews with Sanford police, Zimmerman´s neighbors and at least one coworker. One witness, Sanford´s Senior Project Manager Andrew Thomas, described the police as a "´good old boys´ network."(Snip)Said the other witness, a lifelong resident of Sanford: "It is hard to be an African American male in Sanford and not have a criminal record."
Comments: Jeff Weiner, who was reveling in crucifying George Zimmerman, will now be engaged in trying to be fair and balanced and saving his own self-tarnished journalistic reputation.
So, exactly how an unrelated FBI investigation does about the police department using interviews and not facts affect what happen that night? This is pure switch and bait to make the public (pollute the potential jury pool) think its one big conspiracy. Seems unlike the defense in the OJ trail, it’s now the prosecutor’s intent to defame the police department.
The FBI "evidence" package included many things. Among them the color photo we have now seen of how George Zimmerman´s fact looked immediately after Trayvon Martin beat him.
If you only read the headline and intro, you won´t know that George Zimmerman personally challenged the Sanford Police Department for its fairly recent whitewash of an incident where the son of a high level police captain or assistant chief (white) beat up a black homeless man at a bar. Zimmerman printed flyers and put them on the windshields of cars at black churches, trying to get them to take action and bring justice for this homeless man.
Surely the Sanford PD remembered George Zimmerman when the Trayvon Martin shooting occurred. This information is relevant to this case, not simply the "trashing" of a police department.
This report verifies (and there is more to it than in the intro) that there had been a culture of corruption and bias against blacks in this PD.
This FBI investigation was due to the filing of a civil rights complaint against Zimmerman, which is separate from the local Zimmerman homicide charges. If witness statements made to the FBI and other law enforcement are not considered to be part of the full body of evidence in a case, there will be no criminal investigations. And ultimately no trials.
It is clear that the FBI´s information is favorable to Zimmerman. He was not a racist.
This is a shoddy, shoddy piece of reporting, inasmuch as it tries to draw from out of the blue some connection of the Zimmerman prosecution to facts/opinions that are completely irrelevant to core issue of a criminal case, i.e., to Zimmerman´s conduct and his intent. Mr. Weiner (an appropriate name for this fool)tries to hang the perception of a racist, sexist Sanford police department on to a criminal defendant, Zimmerman. In other words, according to Weiner´s logic, Zimmerman is nothing more than a by-product of a racist/sexist mindset infecting the Sanford Police Department and, therefore, guilty as charged.
Nairobi, Kenya -- Sixty-eight dead. At least 175 injured. About 30 hostages still inside, as well as perhaps a dozen gunmen. Those are the grim numbers, more than a day after Islamist attackers stormed an upscale Nairobi mall on Saturday, spraying bullets and holding shoppers captive. The tense standoff continued into Sunday night, with sporadic gunfire heard through the day and at least one explosion. Kenya´s President Uhuru Kenyatta told reporters Sunday afternoon the Kenyan people had showed resiliency as a nation and would triumph against the attackers. The tragedy was also personal for
The suits who run the Emmys had to make a hard choice in deciding which dead actor to honor-- a TV icon who has won multiple Emmys, or a young actor with no Emmys who is now as famous for being a drug addict as a TV star. They chose door number 2. It´s interesting. We´ve spoken with several people who have won Emmys who are upset with the decision to give a special honor to Cory Monteith but not Jack Klugman, and they´re all too scared to speak out ... for fear of some sort of retaliation. Jack Klugman
NAIROBI — Kenyan troops are locked in a fierce firefight with Somali militants inside an up-market Nairobi shopping mall on Sunday, in a final push to end a siege that has left at least 50 dead and 200 wounded with an unknown number of hostages still being held. Heavy gunfire could be heard as Kenyan security officials said they were attempting to kill or capture the remaining attackers and end to the 22-hour-long bloodbath at the Westgate mall. Somalia’s al-Qaeda-inspired Shebab rebels said the carnage at the part Israeli-owned complex mall was in retaliation for Kenya’s military intervention in Somalia, where African
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s security forces released a top-ranking Taliban prisoner Saturday in an effort to expedite the peace process in neighboring Afghanistan. Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was arrested in 2010 during a raid by the CIA and Pakistani intelligence services, was freed shortly before noon under orders from Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. (Snip)Baradar was considered the second-ranking Taliban leader when he was captured in the secret operation, designed by U.S. officials to gather intelligence about the Taliban network. He is believed to have played a key role in organizing resistance after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001
At least 30 people were reported dead and 60 wounded, including foreigners, after gunmen stormed an upscale mall in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, says the country’s Red Cross. Witnesses said the attackers ordered all Muslims to leave the premises, as only non-Muslims would be targeted. "The casualties are many, and that´s only what we have on the outside. Inside there are even more casualties and shooting is still going on," Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Abbas Guled said. A police officer inside the shopping center said the gunmen had barricaded themselves into the Nakumatt supermarket. "We have reports of American citizens injured
NAIROBI, Kenya — An upscale mall popular with the Kenyan elite and the foreign diplomats and businesspeople who call Nairobi home turned into a war zone on Saturday, as gunmen opened fire on shoppers in an apparent terrorist attack, killing at least 20 people and wounding dozens more. At nightfall, the mall remained sealed off to the public as police officers and soldiers searched floor by floor for the gunmen, who were still believed to be inside with hostages. Witnesses described hearing explosions and gunfire as they fled, leaving behind blood, broken glass and carnage in what was apparently one of
At least 26 people have been killed or sucumbed to injuries following the shooting at the Westgate Shopping mall in Nairobi´s Westlands area. This is according to the Kenya Red Cross service that provided emergency response services. The hospitals receiving patients are Aga Khan, MP Shah, Nairobi Hospital and the Kenyatta National Hospital. A combined contingent of the General Service Unit, the Kenya Defence Forces among other security agencies are currently conducting an evacuation exercise at the
A well-organised “terror gang” is believed to be behind an armed assault on a Nairobi shopping mall, senior police sources told AFP, adding they had also detained one wounded suspect. “This cannot be a normal robbery because all the survivors are saying how the group confronted them and opened fire,” a senior police official told AFP on condition he remained anonymous. “We have reports there were up to 10 or so attackers and they appeared to be wearing a similar outfit, and others covered their faces,” another police official said. “The pattern of the attack and the way they were speaking to their
Gunmen attacked an upscale shopping mall in the Kenyan capital on Saturday, leading to a fierce gunbattle with police and leaving dozens of casualties. The Kenyan Red Cross reported 20 dead, though a government official, Joseph Ole Lenku, only confirmed 11. Fifty more people were wounded in the attack at the mall in Nairobi, said Abbas Gullet, head of the Kenyan Red Cross. A security agent told CNN´s Lillian Leposo at the scene that the violence was a terrorist attack, but officials had yet to confirm that information, Leposo told CNN.

A photo of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel signing for South Florida autograph broker Drew Tieman in early January has been obtained by ESPN. It is the first visual representation of Manziel signing for Tieman. In the photo, which two sources have confirmed as legitimate, Manziel, in a long-sleeve maroon shirt, is standing over a covered pool table signing photos of his image while Tieman oversees the process. The photo, according to sources, was taken in the Fort Lauderdale apartment in which Tieman was living at the time.
In the aftermath of Senator Ted Cruz’s epic performance on the Senate floor, a few observations: After his disgraceful attacks on Cruz, including his reach-across-the-aisle, dog-in-the-manger response today, this should be the end of Senator John McCain as a voice of influence in the Republican party. Ditto his mini-me, Senator Lindsey Graham. Indeed, the entire Old Guard of business-as-usual “comity” fans passeth. When you care more about what the other side thinks, it’s probably time either to switch teams or step down. There is new leadership in the GOP, whether the party wants to admit it or not: Cruz, Rand
A very unhappy Senator John McCain (R-AZ) rebuked Senator Ted Cruz for accusing his GOP allies of being “appeasers” along the line of Neville Chamberlain’s Munich deal with Adolf Hitler in 1938. “I resoundingly reject that allegation,” McCain said on the Senate floor. “That allegation, in my view, does a great disservice for those brave Americans and those who stood up and said what’s happening in Europe cannot stand…Amongst them were my father and grandfather.”
The status quo falls apart when people discover, first to their surprise, then to their glee, that it’s lost its teeth. The presidency of Barack Obama appears to be unraveling — whether the yarn will be pulled out to the last inch remains to be seen, but a lot of it is already coiled on the floor. First the UK parliament, then both parties of Congress balked at his Syrian policy. Then Putin humiliated him so badly internationally that he retreated to the safety of domestic policy. But while resting between rounds he was immediately beset by his own cornerpeople.
PRINCETON, NJ -- As Washington braces for another budget showdown, this time with the threat of defunding the new healthcare law in the mix, the key political force pushing for conservative policies sees diminished popular support. Fewer Americans now describe themselves as supporters of the Tea Party movement than did at the height of the movement in 2010, or even at the start of 2012. Today´s 22% support nearly matches the record low found two years ago.
Rep. Peter King, who has pulled no punches in criticizing Ted Cruz, said Thursday that supporters of the Texas senator have been bombarding his office with “vile” phone calls. The New York Republican has called Cruz a fraud for his calls to defund Obamacare, and said the senator’s campaign this summer to get the House to pass a government funding bill that defunds the health care law led to some offensive phone calls to King’s office.
Ted Cruz has sparked a Republican civil war. He has done the bidding of the GOP fringe, in a self-aggrandizing crusade. And while he has enhanced his own position in the conservative fantasyland he seeks to rule, the practical effect of his quixotic campaign to defund Obamacare has been to elevate the president and jeopardize the 2014 elections for his own party. That, at least, seems to be the consensus in Washington. We’re inclined to a somewhat different view. We say two cheers for Ted Cruz— and for Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and their fellow crusaders. They succeeded
Former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday that he believes his daughter, 33-year old Chelsea Clinton, has the potential to one day be a better president than his wife, former New York senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In an interview set to run late Wednesday on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live, Clinton was asked by the host who he thought would make a better president – his wife Hillary, or his daughter Chelsea. “Day after tomorrow, my wife because she’s had more experience,” he said. “Over the long run, Chelsea. She knows more than we do about everything.” Clinton lauded his daughter’s intelligence,
Allen West reportedly called a female employee a "Jewish American princess," resulting in the loss of his job. While some of the famously outspoken former congressman´s supporters might see the situation as political correctness gone wrong, the latest incident happened an the epicenter of the anti-PC police rebel alliance: Pajamas Media. Buzzfeed explains that West "voluntarily" left his position at the media outlet, effective at the end of this month. Here´s an email — obtained by Rosie Gray — to the PJ Media staff: "In order to focus on political interests, Allen West will transition from his full-time role as
John McCain’s former senior adviser Steve Schmidt says he has “deep regret” for helping to create a “freak show” wing of the Republican Party when he had a hand in bringing former McCain running mate Sarah Palin to the national stage. Schmidt said Monday on MSNBC’s “Hardball” that it’s time for the GOP to stand up to the “asininity” embodied by Palin and others. “For the last couple of years, we’ve had this wing of the party running roughshod over the rest of the party. Tossing out terms like RINO, saying we’re going to purge, you know, the moderates out of
It seems that Hillary Clinton’s hair length is getting shorter as anticipation surrounding her expected presidential candidacy continues to grow. On Tuesday she attended the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative sporting a new, shorter ‘do. The style appears to be a piece-y, layered bouffant with wispy side swept bangs and lots of volume in the back. A source tells MailOnline that Clinton had celebrity stylist John Barrett cut her hair at his Bergdorf Goodman salon on Monday, and says that Clinton ´was grinning when she left and was obviously happy with the ´do.´
Yesterday, I wrote that the old guard RINO wing of the GOP was collapsing because the base had aligned itself with politicians willing to place principle above party. As if on cue, a who’s who of go-along-to-get-along Republicans has crawled out of the woodwork. First up, we had John McCain. He was angry, but his diatribe was nothing compared to the double-barreled rage-fest being employed by New York Republican Rep. Pete King. Yesterday, King (who’s still considering a 2016 presidential run) spoke with the always-unbiased New York Times. During his interview, he called Cruz a “fraud” and referred to his anti-Obamacare
WASHINGTON — Nearly $300 million in aid for Detroit — from federal and state coffers, private businesses and charitable foundations — will be announced Friday as Obama administration officials visit the city to discuss what can be done to help eradicate blight, improve transportation, encourage new business and make residents safer. The funding will include $150 million in blight eradication and community redevelopment, including $65 million in Community Development Block Grant funding — which had already been awarded over two years but could not be accessed by the city. An additional $25 million could help hire as many as 150
