Whatever Happened to
Common Sense?

American Thinker, by Dennis Lund

Original Article

The time was 1775, the rebellion was increasing in intensity. Blood had been shed at Lexington and Concord, and Falmouth had been bombarded by ships of the Royal Navy. The rebellion had begun, but the War for Independence had not. The Continental Congress issued their declaration of causes, as well as extending peace overtures to King George with the "Olive Branch Petition", George Washington, now the commander-in-chief, preceded his evening meals with a toast to the king.

It´s non-existent in libtards and rare among republicans. However, it is widespread among conservatives.

FTA:
"we can have no joy, knowing that this government is not sufficiently lasting to ensure anything which we may bequeath to posterity: And by a plain method of argument, as we are running the next generation into debt, we ought to do the work of it, otherwise we use them meanly and pitifully." - Thomas Paine

Sound familiar? Topical? Current?

This is an excellent read! Should be a ´Must Read´. Thanks for posting this.

In 1775 only 30% cared what tyrant ruined their lives. Only 3% participated in the American Revolution. That is all that is required. We have that and we need to compel The socialists in D.C. to leave. Join the Necktie Party. Stronger than the TEA party and more entertaining. You think I joke?

It is so refreshing to hear someone say "War for Independence" as revolution is never good(French Revolution example). Like calling the "War Between the States" the Civil War which was not "civil" - you know "States Rights". Notice there was no blood shed in England - no aristocrat was harmed. A Republic is quite different from a Democracy & by far the best type of government as per our Founders. Man is not in charge so "God Bless Us Everyone" & Merry Christmas ACLU!

Global sea levels have risen by 8 inches (20cm) since 1880 and scientists predict they could rise up to 3ft (98cm) by 2100. But despite the UN’s recent threats of war, famine and extreme weather, such a dramatically different world caused by sea level rise can be hard to imagine. To help picture the future, Martin Vargic, an amateur graphic designer from Slovakia, has created a map depicting the planet with sea levels around 260ft (79m) higher than they are today. He imagines what Earth would look like if the ice sheets surrounding the North and South poles melted, releasing

Nine people are dead and at least 36 were wounded - including six children - in an especially bloody 48 hours in the gang-and-violence-plagued city of Chicago over the weekend. Five of the six children wounded - who range in age from 11 to 15 - were shot during a drive-by shooting on Sunday night after a person in the vehicle reportedly asked if the children were members of a particular street gang. The sixth, a 15-year-old girl, was shot while riding in a vehicle in what appears to be a separate - but also gang-related - incident. In one

A coalition of investigative journalists to include the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) recently announced a public project to map border infrastructure used to hopefully minimize unlawful crossing and other illegal activities. While the effort is understandably time-consuming and leads to frustration when clearly seeing much of the border unfenced--security experts argue the key is proper placement, rather than blanket coverage with infrastructure. The Center for Investigative Reporting’s map of a U.S./Mexico border fence, or lack thereof, offers a seeming disparity of border assets allocated—leaving viewers to assume that Texas is left largely un-guarded compared to the relative coverage enjoyed

What are the chances that Bernardine Dohrn, the wife of Bill Ayres, and a principal signatory on the Weather Underground´s "Declaration of a State of War" in May 1970 could be appointed as a judge in a Federal Court? Dohrn graduated with honors with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and subsequently graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. Until August 2013, she was a clinical Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law. Bernardine Dohrn´s resume is almost as appealing as the President´s resume when he was elected to the presidency.

Former CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has been making the media rounds, discussing her departure from the network she called home for more than two decades. She appeared on CNN´s Reliable Sources over the weekend and shed additional light on a developing culture inside CBS News that she said she could no longer abide. Attkisson cited the network´s "declining appetite" for original investigative reporting, prompting host Brian Stelter to note the irony that CBS News´ slogan is "original reporting." But her concerns extended far beyond some producers´ and executives´ apparent disinterest in her brand of journalism. She said CBS´ internal

OSO – The floodwaters that covered the dead have been drained. Whirring excavators scoop shattered timber and deep muck. Outside each cab, a sentry studies the overturned debris for any sign of the last missing victims. When President Barack Obama arrives Tuesday, one month after a massive mudslide obliterated a rural neighborhood on the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River, he’ll find a haunting wasteland. The slide left a sewage-smelling swamp of gray clay and brown dirt, woven with roots and branches and dotted here with the twisted wreckage of a red pickup truck and there with a young girl’s

As it sought to recruit well-heeled investors, an untested and unprofitable Miami company named InnoVida brought aboard a trusted Florida figure in 2007: Jeb Bush, the former governor and the brother of a sitting president. For potential stockholders, the imprimatur of Mr. Bush, who joined InnoVida as a paid consultant and a member of the board of directors, conferred credibility on the young start-up. That credibility did not last long. It turned out that the leaders of InnoVida, a manufacturer of inexpensive building materials, had faked documents, lied about the health of the business and misappropriated $40 million in company

LAS VEGAS — Deep beneath Lake Mead, a 23-foot-tall tunnel-boring machine grinds through stubborn bedrock in a billion-dollar effort to make sure water continues flowing to this thirsty resort city. For six years, the Southern Nevada Water Authority has been building an intake straw below the reservoir´s two existing pipes. Due for completion in fall 2015, critics say it may not provide a long-term solution. An ongoing drought and the Colorado River´s stunted flow have shrunk Lake Mead to its lowest level in generations. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of American democracy is the magnificent estate of public land that it reserved from the very beginning for the use of all citizens, rich or poor. There is nothing like it in the democracies of Europe, which came into being with nations already carved up into private fiefdoms. The Great Idea that hundreds of millions of acres of forests, deserts, rivers and prairies should be owned by, and managed for, the public interest has had a profound and lasting influence on American culture. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like

Rather than labeling Hasan’s actions “domestic terrorism,” the Obama administration is prosecuting him for having committed “workplace violence.” Democratic rhetoric is become ever more desperate and overheated as we approach the November midterm elections. As the number of subsidized participants grows, the disaster gets worse.
