Protesters reach palace; Morsi flees
Washington Times, by Marwa Nasser and Jabeen Bhatti

CAIRO — Egypt’s Islamist president fled his palace by the back door Tuesday as riot police used clubs and tear gas to battle thousands of demonstrators protesting his seizure of broad powers that enabled him to push through a draft constitution. Protesters proclaimed the march on the presidential residence in Cairo a “last warning” to President Mohammed Morsi. They shouted, “We want the downfall of the regime” and “leave, leave,” echoing chants used against authoritarian President Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in February 2011. Observers feared for the stability

If anything good comes of this perhaps it will be that the people of Egypt reject sharia law and toss the Brotherhood out. Obama/Hillary have made such a mess of North Africa.

If a dictator flees his palace, doesn´t that mean he´s out of office?

Bashar al-Assad of Syria has been engaged in a civil war with revolutionaries for months if not years, yet he´s never been driven from his palace. If he were, that would be the end for his rule, and the revolutionaries would have won.

So why is it different in Egypt? The media seems to be interpreting Mohamed Morsi´s absence from his leadership post as if he just went out for a stroll.

If the moderates win, it will be a great victory for the forces of freedom and democracy, but since our President is on the side of Mr. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, the MSM is not likely to be cheering.

May i recommend: The Mind of Jihad by Laurent Murawiec. Comprehensive study of the philosophical origins of the movement. I found the intersection of The Brotherhood with the Bolsheviks verrry interrresting.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Malaysia´s prime minister said he believes that "deliberate action" caused the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines 3786.KU +2.13% Flight 370, and authorities are now focusing on two areas in the search for the plane. In the first definitive comments from the nation´s government on how the jet came to vanish March 8, Najib Razak said at a news conference Saturday that data relayed by the plane to a satellite has confirmed it turned from its original course. He added that the last satellite communication from the plane was at 8:11 a.m. Malaysia time, well past the scheduled arrival time

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Investigators have concluded that one or more people with significant flying experience hijacked the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, switched off communication devices and steered it off-course, a Malaysian government official involved in the investigation said Saturday. No motive has been established and no demands have been made known, and it is not yet clear where the plane was taken, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media. The official said that hijacking was no longer a theory. "It is conclusive," he said. He said evidence

Someone who is determined to disbelieve something can manage to disregard an Everest of evidence for it. So Barack Obama will not temper his enthusiasm for increased equality with lucidity about the government’s role in exacerbating inequality. In the movie “Animal House,” Otter, incensed by the expulsion of his fraternity, says: “I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture.” Such thinking gives us minimum-wage increases that do very little for very few. Meanwhile, there are farm bills, like the one Obama signed last month at Michigan State University. MSU was one of the models for

A week into the fruitless search for a missing Malaysian airliner, the focus returned to the possibility that a rogue pilot or hijackers took command of the plane as it flew north over the sea toward Beijing. That fear hinged on the erratic behavior of the plane after it stopped sending radar signals and an indisputable fact: Despite an exhaustive search of the waters that straddle Malaysia and farther into the Indian Ocean, no trace of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 has been found. “It’s looking less and less like an accident,” said a U.S. official who spoke on the

Special operators involved in the mission to take out Osama bin Laden say the reason photos of his body weren´t released is because they would have shown a body riddled with bullet holes. The bizarre movement to “ban” the word “bossy” because it allegedly stigmatizes girls struck many people as ridiculous. But on consideration, it is something far more sophisticated and sinister than mere feminist hyperventilating. Hillary Clinton faces an image problem, and the deep thinkers on her propaganda team know it. In a debate during the 2008 primary campaign, Barack Obama alluded to it when he called her “likable enough,” a backhanded compliment/slap that stung. The woman who as first lady demanded that military service personnel assigned to the White House not look her in the face is an imperious, demanding, and

In case you hadn’t heard, young people these days — a.k.a “the Millennials” — are the most cynical and distrusting generation ever recorded. Only 19 percent think most people can be trusted. According to a big study from the Pew Research Center, they are less attached to marriage, religion, and political institutions than Gen Xers, Baby Boomers, and the other demographic flavors journalists love to use. They like their friends, their digital “social networks,” and their toys, and that’s about it. Not even a majority will call themselves “patriotic.” Probably more dismaying for liberals: Of any living generation, they are

The president of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council challenges critics of President Obama’s Ukraine policy by saying, “What are you going to do, send the 101st Airborne into Crimea?” Not exactly subtle. And rather silly, considering that no one has proposed such a thing. The alternative to passivity is not war but a serious foreign policy. For the past five years, Obama’s fruitless accommodationism has invited the kind of aggressiveness demonstrated by Iran in Syria, China in the East China Sea and Russia in Ukraine. But what’s done is done. Put that aside. What is to be done now?

Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease. Last week, the U.S. Tenth Circuit decided a case that should reverberate on Capitol Hill. In Kerr v. The three-judge panel — consisting of Carter and Clinton appointees — ruled in favor of the legislators’ standing. This decision should embolden members of Congress who correctly believe that President Obama has encroached upon Congress’ constitutional authority. Indeed, Congress should do no less in defending its authority than the five Colorado state legislators. Many members of Congress believe that numerous presidential actions — delaying various provisions of the Affordable Care
