GOP Should Reform Immigration Bureaucrats, Not Immigrants

| Immigration: Former President Bush demonstrated leadership Tuesday in Dallas by urging the U.S. to streamline its citizenship process instead of focusing solely on illegal immigration enforcement. This deserves attention. The last Republican to win a presidential election couldn´t have better framed the issue in light of the GOP´s perceived problems in winning over immigrant voters, who have in part been blamed for the Republicans´ electoral defeat last month. "America can be a lawful society and a welcoming society at the same time," Bush told a conference sponsored by

Bush is not a credible leader in a lot of respects. Bush utterly failed to even defend his policies while in the White House, thus allowing the liberal Democrats and their media allies to hammer him to death for eight years with little response. The result of all that is the country ending up with Obama.
By advocating that the massive illegal alien population in the USA, which may well exceed 20 million people, mostly poor and uneducated, who come mostly from socialist oriented third world countries, be put of a path to citizenship, Bush is eventually handing the liberal Democrats a huge number of new foreign born voters. That class of legalized alien has always voted for the liberal Democrats by about 85% to 15%, and there is no way that the Republicans can out pander the liberal Democrats regarding the increased availability of "free" health-care, all sorts of other government provided social welfare benefits and services, and the promise to further liberalize the immigration laws so that more and more poor and uneducated aliens can come into the USA. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a fairyland.

Bat Man: A Chicago store owner beats off two armed thugs with a baseball bat as Missouri illegally shares concealed carry records with feds and New York matches private health records with gun permits to take firearms. President Obama, who campaigns for gun control between concerts at the White House and golf outings with Tiger Woods, once famously used the metaphor that in politics if they bring a knife to a fight, you bring a gun. On Tuesday, in the gun-controlled murder capital of Chicago, the president´s hometown, store owner Luis Quizhpe

National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years. The announcement Wednesday by the Defense Department that it would soon deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD), a missile defense system inherited from the Bush administration, to Guam underscores the seriousness of the threat from North Korea, whose actions, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel rightly said, "present a real and clear danger." This move comes after the Obama administration reversed its previous scuttling

Justice: A murdered Chicago teen´s mother attends the president´s speech on gun control, not knowing federal gun-crime prosecutions have in fact dropped on his watch — with the Windy City bringing up the rear. Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, the mother of murdered 15-year-old Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton, was one of 20 mothers who lost children to criminal violence who were at the White House last Thursday to hear President Obama speak once again on the need for gun control. Obama met with her and some of the others in a small group before his formal remarks

War On Terrorism: We have a medal for those who remotely operate drones, but the Pentagon claims awarding the victims of the 2009 shooting with Purple Hearts would jeopardize the shooter´s chance at a fair trial. We recently noted that the Obama administration´s shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Major Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence" had denied survivors benefits they would have been entitled to had the attack been properly labeled an act of terror. For example, Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning was shot six times

Diplomacy: After a reprieve from international regulation of our guns, another sovereignty-grabbing U.N. treaty, a pet project of our secretary of state, is still being pushed to declare the oceans the common heritage of mankind. In the pre-dawn hours last Saturday, the U.S. Senate approved by 53-46 a measure "to uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty." But a seemingly harmless cousin, the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), remains on the table, with its champion

Marriage Decline: The disintegration of the nuclear family — particularly in the African-American community — and the rise in fatherless homes have greater societal implications than gay marriage, yet few pay attention. The debate over gay marriage has taken center stage with two cases, one involving California´s Proposition 8 which bans it, and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which bars federal agencies recognizing the validity of same-sex marriages in the states where they are legal, now before the U.S. Supreme Court. We have argued that the civil purpose of marriage is not

Bad Data: As yet another Solyndra looms, a new government report shows that by the government´s own broad definition of a green job, more can be found in a coal mine than near a solar panel. The second annual Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report on "Employment in Green Goods and Services," released Tuesday, will be the last, allegedly a casualty of the same sequestration that claimed the White House tours and may doom the Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn. That is probably a good thing,

Missile Defense: The administration beefs up our Alaskan-based interceptors it once downgraded in response to North Korea´s threat, while ending the final phase of the Europe-based defense against Iran it once supported. We welcome the Obama administration´s decision to place an additional 14 ground-based interceptors (GBI) at Fort Greely, Alaska, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., by 2017, as well as a second TPY-2 phased-array X-band long-range missile defense radar system in Japan following North Korea´s deployment of a new road-mobile missile. Religion: The change that swept Eastern Europe in the 1980s and fueled the collapse of the Soviet Union may find itself repeated by a new pope with similar disdain for the authoritarian governments of his region. When Cardinal Karol Wojtyla stepped out on the balcony of St. Peter´s in 1978 as Pope John Paul II, Soviet communism still stood astride Eastern Europe and his native Poland. He would be the moral force helping to lead half a continent out of the human bondage of totalitarianism. Argentina´s 76-year-old Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now Pope Francis I

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act, said on Tuesday that the healthcare law, set to go into full effect in less than eight months, is “probably the most complex piece of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress” and “is just beyond comprehension.” Rockefeller said he is concerned that early missteps with implementing the healthcare overhaul may cascade into confusion and chaos. The law, said Rockefeller, is “so complicated and if it isn’t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse.” Rockefeller’s consternation echoes comments made earlier this

They say they were just doing what the boss trained them to do. But eight former employees of a run-down West Philadelphia abortion clinic now face prison time for the work they did for Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Three have pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. And Gosnell, 72, is on trial in the deaths of a patient and seven babies allegedly born alive. In testimony at the capital murder trial this past month, an unlicensed doctor and untrained aides described long, chaotic days at the clinic. They said they performed grueling, often gruesome work for little more than minimum wage,

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

On his Friday show, syndicated talk show host Mark Levin said that a Republican congressman is attempting to persuade one of his affiliates to remove his show from the airwaves. Although Levin would not offer the congressman’s name on air, he has been a vocal critic of various members of the House Republican leadership in the past. But Levin called the situation “fascism.” “Well, it has come to my attention that there is a Republican congressman out there who doesn’t like what I’ve been saying,” Levin said. “It has come to my attention that there is a

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

TALLAHASSEE - Picture this: You´re in the left lane of the interstate, driving a little below the speed limit, when some guy zips up behind you and swerves past you on the right. Then you notice the blue lights flashing. You´re savoring the satisfaction of seeing a trooper actually nab an aggressive driver — until you realize it´s you he´s pulling over. This could happen, if not very often, under a major transportation package expected to be taken up in the Senate Appropriations Committee next week. Introduced by Sen. A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$! IS DEAD." Amazingly, they managed to spell all four words correctly. By Friday, "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead," from "The Wizard of Oz," was the No. 1 download at Amazon UK. Mrs. Thatcher would have enjoyed all this. Her former speechwriter John O´Sullivan recalls how, some years after leaving office, she
