| Sydney - The phantom island has been blamed on an error by the crew of a whaling ship from 1876, the Velocity, which originally recorded the land mass, known as Sandy Island, midway between Australia and the French-governed New Caledonia. It was Hank Johnson from Georgia
who replaced Cynthia McKinney a few years ago.
Apparently he thought that islands floated.
I hope someone has explained it to him by now. Though, considering his other statements over the last few years, I have doubts about his ability to comprehend.
But I could go all Sheldon on this subject and explain that islands actually do float. And so do all the continents. Granite floats on a bed of basalt because granite is lighter.

Erroneous plotting of a land mass, island, shoal, seamount, etc. was actually common in the age of discovery and before the advent of modern navigational tools.
There is even a word for it:
vi·gi·a (v-j, -h-) n.
A warning on a navigational chart indicating a possible rock, shoal, or other hazard, the exact position of which is unknown.

The deputy Prime Minister said it risked "undermining public confidence" to let illegal immigrants stay if they have been in the country for more than 10 years. In his first major speech on immigration, he abandoned the controversial proposal, which was championed by the Liberal Democrats at the last election. NEW YORK - A long-forgotten piece of America´s military history is going up for sale. The original smaller statue of the iconic raising of the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima in 1945 is expected to fetch up to $1.8 million later this month at a New York auction dedicated to World War II artifacts. A report from the Social Security Administration Inspector General (IG) found 4,317 instances where a non-citizen was able to obtain two Social Security numbers, including 542 instances that happened since 2001. “We identified 4,317 instances where the Numident record of 2 SSNs assigned to noncitizens contained matching first, middle, and last names; dates and places of birth; gender; and fathers’ and mothers’ names,” the IG reported on Dec. 10, 2012. Numident – which stands for Numerical Identification System – is the master file of applications for social security numbers.

A troubling oversight has been found within New York State´s sweeping new gun laws. The ban on having high-capacity magazines, as it´s written, would also include law enforcement officers. Magazines with more than seven rounds will be illegal under the new law when that part takes effect in March. As the statute is currently written, it does not exempt law enforcement officers. Nearly every law enforcement agency in the state carries hand guns that have a 15 round capacity. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993.
