Helped Patients Vote

Cecil Pearson’s daughter Darlene told him she voted for Barack Obama for president. President of what? Cecil says Darlene couldn’t tell you. Darlene, 40, is developmentally disabled and functions cognitively at about the level of a 7-year old. She lives in a group home with five other adult women in Roanoke Rapids. “I was shocked when I learned she had voted,” Pearson told Carolina Journal. “She has never voted. My wife and I became her legal guardians in 1996 to prevent exploitation like this.

This is maddening but not surprising. Examples of this type of voter manipulation and fraud abound. Someone should attempt to prosecute this and find out just WHO delivered the votes. Grease some palms . People will talk. Creating fear that if caught you will be prosecuted is one way to discourage this type of thing. It´s disgusting.

I was a Republican polling judge in St. Louis County, Missouri in the last election. A black woman brought-in her adult son with Down´s Syndrome. She voted and "helped" him vote also. It seemed that he was not really aware of what was occurring and certainly did not have the cognitive power to understand complex political issues. With love and respect I ask, why do we allow people to "help" the mentally disabled to vote? The mother was really just voting twice for Hussein Obama.

Time for someone to be charged with Voter Fraud and do the Perp walk.

You can dismiss the charges later - but you will send a message.

The dims are the party of crooks, loons and spending money. How sad that a mentally ill person is dragged in to vote for whoever her family or voter aids suggest. Illegal? I think so, but then that is the dim way. Bunch of crooks and liars.

Be fair now people...........If we did not allow those with mental handicaps to vote, Uhhhhbama would have gotten 60 million less votes.........

The Pearsons could have avoided this problem as soon as absentee ballots were being mailed out in their state. They could have started talking to their daughter about voting during this time and kept in touch with her about how her residential facility was getting involved in the process. The minute she responded by telling them she was going to vote, what the facility´s staff were telling her about the candidates, how they were going to help her, etc., the Pearsons could have nipped the problem in the bud and discussed voting with her.

They could also have made this story public during election season that way (although there would likely not be much of a difference, given how stories like this get buried).

A similar thing happened a few years ago in northern California with parents of a developmentally disabled young lady who told them she had to vote for Obama. They went public with their story, and the day program their daughter attended apologized to all the angry families who found out.

This is the most disgusting event I saw or heard about within this past POTUS election. I wonder if these care takers were paid to illicit these Special and mentaly handicapped people to vote for Obama. Acorn will do anything to get a vote for BHO. After all, the Late Community Organizer has a skill after all. That is stealing from the mentaly incompetent.
I´ll bet he is proud of how his buddies on the street caught votes anyway they could get them....what pukes

First time I observed this on a massive scale was when Corzine ran for the Senate from NJ.

Busloads of mentally disabled folks voting with the help of their aides.

Next they´ve gone to using absentee ballots for people confined to institutions. People with NO awareness at all of the exploitation.

The DemoRATS have been doing this in Maryland for decades. Every election, they go to nursing homes and ´Help´ the residents to vote! Of course, they all vote a straight DemoRAT ballot!

Nothing surprising here. Unfortunately.

Do a search for the column.

This happened to me and my daughter, who lives in a residential home and functions at a 2 year old level. When I found out and complained, they couldn´t understand why! They said "this way, you get to vote twice"...no, here in Chicago, that means she cancelled my vote!! I put a stop to it but I know the other residents are taken to vote! Disgusting!!!!

Past Governor, James Doyle, earned the name
in Wisconsin as "Jim Bingo Doyle" because he organized or had organized a group of his people to go to nursing homes and "assist the elderly play Bingo" The game was set up on the day of voting, so those lovely volunteers were only too eager to help the elderly in marking their ballots. The volunteers have no shame, the newspapers didn´t write about it or expose it - why should they? These people act in the interet of the MSM.

Unfortunately most disabled people get some form of government assistance. It makes sense that they would vote for the handout party, even if they had a complete understanding of what was going on.

The director of state facilities for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled said his department will continue to offer annual voter registration and voting assistance for patients and residents. He also said that while efforts are made to notify patients’ guardians about voting activities, a patient’s right to vote takes priority over any objections from guardians. [SNIP] The laws and rules governing voting by mentally challenged individuals remain murky, and it’s unclear whether state employees who assisted disabled patients and residents to cast ballots at early voting sites were complying with the law.

Recent stepped-up voter registration efforts at state mental hospitals and facilities for the developmentally disabled resulted in the registration of Wendell Justin Williamson, who in 1995 killed two people in Chapel Hill and was judged not guilty by reason of insanity. Election records show Williamson, a patient at Central Regional Hospital in Butner, was registered on Sept. 13 as an unaffiliated voter. He cast an absentee ballot that was accepted Oct. 15 by the Granville County Board of Elections.

Cherry Hospital, a state-run adult inpatient psychiatric facility in Goldsboro, welcomed a federally funded nonprofit organization to conduct a voter registration drive of mental patients, likely a violation of state law. Moreover, a memo from a hospital administrator indicated the nonprofit, Disability Rights North Carolina, assisted patients in completing absentee ballots, which may have been illegal as well. Records from the Wayne County Board of Elections obtained by Carolina Journal show 34 persons using Cherry Hospital’s address — 201 Stevens Mill Road in Goldsboro — are registered to vote.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s brother, William Holder, apparently employs illegal foreign workers at one or more of the four McDonald’s restaurants he and his wife Deborah purchased last year in Wake County, a Carolina Journal investigation has found. A CJ reporter made approximately 30 visits in September to observe and talk with workers at the restaurants, at least one of which has been visited by the attorney general.

Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.
