Larry Gipson was dean of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham from 1982-94 and rector at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, where his parishioners included former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, from 1994-2008. As I understand it, if an episcopal priest disagrees with his denomination on the issue of abortion, that priest, even if married, may be ordained a roman catholic priest. But if his wife dies, he may not remarry and remain a roman catholic priest.
This new procedure appears to be an expansion of the previous procedure. And if enough married episcopal priests become roman catholic priests, the pope and college of cardinals may come to realize that married priests are OK. That could lead to ordination of priests who are allowed to be married, without going through the episcopal faith first.
Sounds ok to me.
(disclosure - I am a remarried former catholic, now a lutheran, and taught for two years at a catholic university. And the priests there were dreadfully lonely and isolated. So my view of married priests is influenced by my friendships with some of those priests.)

Priests in the One Holy and Apostolic Church, the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church (before the 13th century) all had/have married priests and it all worked well except for the nepotism that became rampant in the RCC that had to be corrected.

I admire Rev. Gipson because he shows great love and and respect for the Anglican Church even as he is being received into Catholicism. Graciousness is certainly a gift from God. Welcome home, Fr. Larry.

Greg Hall is safe from government fines – for now. The Catholic deacon who owns American Manufacturing Company in St. Joseph has received a preliminary injunction protecting him from provisions in the Affordable Care Act. The injunction was issued Tuesday in the 8th Circuit of the federal district courts by U.S. District Court Judge John R. Tunheim. In short, he won’t have to start providing insurance that covers contraception, sterilization or abortifacient drugs to his employees.

The idea of addressing gun violence by taxing pistols is being tested at Cook County, Illinois. According to the Sun Times newspaper, a special gun tax kicks in today. Oklahoma City - A federal appeals court has granted Hobby Lobby´s request for the entire court to hear its challenge of a requirement that it provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraceptive pills. The Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court handed down the ruling on Friday. Ordinarily, appeals filed with the court are decided by a three-judge panel, but a total of nine judges will hear Hobby Lobby´s appeal. The court also ruled it will hear Hobby Lobby´s appeal on an expedited basis, with oral arguments expected this spring.

North Dakota’s governor signed the nation’s strictest anti-abortion measures into law Tuesday, including one statute that would ban most abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Gov. Today the Supreme Court will hear arguments on California’s Proposition 8. Tomorrow it will hear a related case involving the federal Defense of Marriage Act. Each defines marriage as a union between a man and woman. The question is whether the court will use the cases to discover a right to same-sex marriage. We hope they choose a more modest path. McCaskill tweeted about the experience before boarding a flight on Monday. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church.
