Single moms getting
a sweet deal in Pa.

Delco Times [Primos, PA], by Gil Spencer

Original Article

Posted By:JackBurton, 12/1/2012 1:03:43 PM

Post Thanksgiving ruminations and ruinations ... Question: When is it better to earn $29,000 than to earn $69,000? Answer: When you’re a single mom living in Pennsylvania. Why? Because, thanks to our generous welfare system, a single mom makes out better that way. When all the benefits are added up, the lower-paid single mom qualifies to receive $57,327 in net income and benefits, while the mom who earns $69,000 ends up with a net income and benefits of $57,045.

Comments:
The article goes on to show how a single mom making 29k does better than a mom making 69k. Any time you pay a lot for something, you´ll get a bigger supply. And single moms broke for Obama more than any other group. There´s your election.

Seems a little short-sighted, Gil.

Only if one´s primary criterion for making out better is how much aid the state provides. Making 69,000 + 57,045 is a heck of a lot better off than 29,000 + 57,327.

Pet peeve: Women with children who are divorced, should be called divorced moms.
I´d be darned if I would ever have called myslef a single mom after my divorce.
Or are we too stupid to know the difference anymore?

There is something really wrong in this society when the title of "single mom" is worn like a badge of honor. The paying someone to be a single mom is even worse. Sorry but for so many I have so little feelings for. Way too many women have children, out of wedlock, and game the system. A system I am helping to pay for.

After re-reading the article, I ask folks to disregard #1.

I mis-read the income/benefits part and incorrectly inferred that the 57,327 vs 57,045 was the state assistance, not the total net compensation (combining earnings plus taxpayer support).

The Dems have been working towards this for 50+ years. Its their plan to stay in power forever. Oh, and Ann Coulter had an excellent chapter on single moms in one of her books (can´t remember which one).

My niece started college this year. First priority for aid and loans goes to single moms separated from family. Federal assistance should go to individuals, not groups of individuals selected for special treatment.

Lessee... I´m single. Wait -- I´m a guy. Uhhh... hey, a cheap wig from the Dollar Store, claim to be pre-trans-gender when interviewed. Got one "kid," 26 years old, but not at home. Can´t see why that won´t count. I could always take a Big Brothers flyer with me... yeah, claim to be "pre-adoption," too.

Around 1987, I had a student who had done grants and loans, and graduated from college. She started looking for jobs in Albuquerque NM. They offered less than $20,000. As a beginning programmer, that was about normal. She had 3 children, their father had died. That money would not pay rent, child care, insurance, etc. she cried when she told me she had to go on welfare. Sadly, she died from breast cancer 2 years later. I was with her when they said they could do no better without private insurance.

I hate being called a single mom, but that´s what I am now. Didn´t plan it that way, wouldn´t plan it that way and would do anything to have my husband back. He planned and made sure we were ok financially, but I´d rather live in a tent and have him back then be a single mom. Actually, I´m not really a single mom, I´m a widow.

Site pest alert. Look out for anecdotes that can neither be proven nor disproven. It is stock for liberals. An anecdote for every occasion. Kind of like piaps---you remember she tried to join the marines, she and Bill considered an adoption during height of scandal and the biggest whopper ever: she dodged machine gun fire on the tarmac in Bosnia.

Um, most of us read and make our own judgments. The Replies posted are simply opinions or comments. Whatever. The site pest alert, while probably well meant, tends to tar everyone who posts an anecdote with the same brush. We are just fine without it.

This is how Obama and Democrat´s get the female vote. They can´t find, or are too ugly to snag a man to marry them so Obama is their surrogate baby daddy. If this ain´t stopped the nation´s screwed. These women on the entitlement teat shouldn´t be allowed to vote.

#13, women who get into these situations are from all color, shape, size, locale, and ethnicity. Beauty has nothing to do with it. Hollywood has made single motherhood OK. These women fail to realize they are not rich Angelina Jolie or some other tart that parades their Charlie McCarthy accessory around.

Look at January Jones, Jolie, Jessica Simpson, all single mothers. They are hardly ugly in apperance. The only difference between them and the gal in the ghetto is the size of their wallet.

The problem rests in the lack of morality and a political party (dems) who exploit these people. They are waging a war on women and the traditional family.

Reply 16 - Posted by: Charactercounts, 12/1/2012 5:51:18 PM     (No. 9043481)

Agree with #2´s pet peeve--single mother are those who haven´t been married. If they´re divorced or widowed, they´re divorced or widowed mothers.

Calling all these women single moms is merely an effort to normalize unmarried motherhood. And, it has succeeded.

#9, God bless you and your family.

Reply 17 - Posted by: cThree, 12/1/2012 6:19:52 PM     (No. 9043511)

To #s 2 and 9, the euphemism "single mom" is not meant to demean your circumstances, but it does.

It´s meant to hide the irresponsibility of unwed mothers, blurring their situation with yours, and conferring upon them a heroic empathy of the hard situation they are in.

It´s meant to put them on a par with you, and erase any moral culpability they have for their circumstances.

Thus, moral innocent and hard pressed, they become righteously entitled to any and all state support progressives can conjure up, all with an eye toward eroding support for traditional family structures, which, after all, tend to be more conservative.

The correct term is "unwed mothers."

Unwed mothers have a cottage industry. Why would they want to get married when the gov rewards them ?

You would think the prez´s wife would encourage young women to get an education and a job, instead of her shoving her own food issues on kids.

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
