| WASHINGTON — As Republicans regroup from their drubbing on Election Day, Texas’ Sen.-elect Ted Cruz is offering a prescription to rebuild: The party must be less timid toward Democrats, less hostile toward Hispanics, and more focused on upward mobility than on protecting big business. “It’s easy to be demoralized, to look at these elections and throw up your hands in despair,” he told conservative activists at a fundraising dinner Thursday, but history teaches that “things can change very, very quickly.” Republican hand-wringing and finger-pointing have been in full swing over the president’s victory and Democratic gains in the Senate.

Came away with "uh-huh" "yeah" "right"
See, we´ve already got a fierce warrior and ass-kicker who represents everything the Republican Party is supposed to be.
Who? Tell me who .. !!
Allen West
But he´s the wrong kind of black man so we needn´t bother with his ilk.

West is a true warrior. I sense a personality cult growing surrounding Cruz. Lots of drum-beating going on. He may be the latest bright, shiny bauble, Hispanic, "Saviour of the Party", and all that. But jeez, all the bobbysoxer swooning? Please. I´ll take West anyday.
I believe we conservatives need to keep West engaged, if he himself doesn´t do that.

It´s really pretty simple. Here´s the story:
"Juan Ramirez´ dream was to start his own concrete services. For years, he worked as a laborer and saved his money. When the time came that he had enough money to purchase his own truck, equipment, and had sufficient business lined up to hire two helpers, he discovered that he couldn´t make it after all. The permits, legal requirements, employee benefit mandates and built-in delays cost too much, and Juan missed his opportunity. Today, Juan is a laborer who no longer dreams."

"Hispanics." "Big Business."
I still see way too much "let´s set policy in reaction to what the Left is doing."
Shoot me now.

FTA: "With private accounts, though, they might have $100,000 socked away by retirement, enough for them or their kids to start a small business, pay for college or buy a house."
And he still doesn´t get it. Republicans as a mass don´t get it. The American people DO get it. The common sense of the American people is developed over a lifetme of hard work during which they learn how difficult it is so save a dollar and how easy it is to see it disappear, on kids´ tuition, medical bills, bail for the brother-in-law. So when a Republican with a new "plan" tells them to go ahead, take that safety net of social security you paid into your entire life and risk it all in a single year on ..... WHAT? A new small business that typically fails during the first year? Then what? You can´t collect social security because you just blew it all on one spin of the wheel. So what do you do? Try to get your old job back, with nothing to show for 50 years of work? Starve?
No, when we hear the spiel about "private accounts" for social security, all the alarm bells go off and we all hear "scam." There´s money in this for somebody. Who is it? The Republican establishment´s banker friends? Probably. Wall Street? Almost assuredly.
I´m sorry, but I´m a conservative Republican and it is no great mystery why Americans vote for Obamas when Republicans keep coming up with this stuff. Almost as bad as school vouchers, where people who pay no property taxes and don´t work get to send their kids to our GOOD schools that we pay dearly for.

Sorry Ted but Republicans are not hostile to Hispanics and they are focused on upward mobility. How can anyone go upward if there are no jobs, big business is not a bad thing. You have been taken in by all the nastiness of the democrats if you think this is what is wrong with the Republican party.

Since we just emerged from a grueling, multi-year, billion-dollar Republican presidential primary and general-election exercise that blew up in our faces, you´d think prospective Republican presidential candidates for 2016 would have learned enough to at least get off to a better start than their 2012 predecessors.
Yes, it´s good to start early. Particularly for Conservatives like Ted Cruz, so that they can raise enough money and support to discourage Karl Rove and other moderates from entering the fray down the road, but they should have learned what to say and what not to say before they opened their candidacies, and mouths, in public.
So far in the early 2016 sweepstakes, Marco Rubio has begun to march into battle in Iowa only to fall into a ditch because he couldn´t help opining about what might have happened in the year 5773, the creation of the world, rather than in what´s happening now in America.
And now Ted Cruz couldn´t help himself from exhuming from its grave the politically toxic proposal of personal social-security savings accounts.
It´s going to be a long four years for the Republicans.

I´ve been searching the internet for the speech. Can´t find it. Daily Caller and Politico probably have the most complete quotations in full context. I´m not interested in thinking about future candidates, I am interested in every individual having the opportunity to succeed. With Cruz it is not talk, he has fought for these principles before the Supreme Court and won. Whenever a politician stops thinking individual and starts thinking groups of individuals, he goes astray. The Dems have gone far so far astray they are going in the wrong direction.

I don´t see that what he´s offering is a new formula at all. He seems to think Republicans should beat the dead horse of privatizing Social Security (hard sell in uncertain times) and talk really nice and upbeat about Mexico´s continuing northward flight into America.

Sometimes I´m not sure we all read the same article. I didn´t get that he was advocating for a group but telling us how to communicate the advantage and applicability (if that is a word) of conservatism to a broader range of voter. It would apply to Hispanics, women, young people and seniors. And you have to do it in words they understand before you can change the vocabulary on them. We need our own buzz words that say what we are rather than just saying we aren´t what liberals call us.

Ted Crus iz not eligible for the Presidency or Vice-Presidency, as he is not a Natural Born Citizen. His father is not a Native American.
The Constitution is clear, the Founders fully understood NBC, and none of that is trumped by: a. later judicial error [read: agenda activism]; or b. misunderstanding of the Constitution by present-day commentators.
#18: Somehow, the Rs utterly fail to explain [and maybe fail to understand?] that any tax assessed to a business simply becomes part of the price paid by individuals for the product or service. The "higher taxes on business" sacrament of the Dems falls 100% on consumers, yet so many people are evidently happy to ignore that.

Cruz just got here and already he is in charge. We should talk up legal immigration. Didn´t Romney do so repeatedly? We should not talk so much about social security personal accounts or anything else concerning finance. We sound like accounts or con men, according to Cruz. We are talking over the heads of average voters. How can we convince anybody if we don´t talk about these things? Is it our fault if the media won´t report on what our people say? Is it our fault if voters are too stupid to understand or too lazy to try? Let´s hear Cruz´s plan to cure that.
I got hundreds of requests from him for a contribution. For some reason, I was wary. I´m beginning to be glad I sent my money elsewhere even though he won and West and Romney lost.

It seems quite obvious that most who commented either did not read the article, have an aversion to Hispanics in general or have a one-note agenda that they keep banging away at every time a Cuban name is mentioned in the context of GOP policy-making. No wonder we keep losing. (In the interest of full disclosure, I think the recent election was actually stolen, but that might have been avoided with a stronger message and a lot less of the GOP elitist attitude.)

TRENTON — Talk about an odd couple. Liberal media mogul Arianna Huffington is bringing GOP star Gov. Chris Christie to the White House Correspondents´ dinner later this month. The governor will feel at home with the Huffington Post founder´s other guests: New Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi of Sayreville and Shaquille O´Neal of Newark, according to Women´s Wear Daily, which first reported the invites. Shaq recently visited Christie at the Statehouse in Trenton. Christie was one half of an unusual pairing last year, too, when he made headlines for sitting next to bombshell "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vegara.

I don´t mean in a Nazis vs Communists, Hitler vs Stalin, way. I mean in a moderate way: Conservative activists vs Labour activists, you might say. It´s difficult to imagine Conservative activists behaving like the people who celebrated Margaret Thatcher´s death in Glasgow and Brixton. That´s partly because it´s hard to think of any Left-wing leader who had as powerful an effect on the country as she did. But, still, between them, Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan – with quite a lot of help from Edward Heath – led to a disastrous decline in British fortunes in the 1970s,

House Republican leaders on Wednesday criticized President Obama for conditioning the entitlement reforms in his budget on GOP support for higher taxes. While they said Obama “deserves some credit” for including entitlement reforms in his spending blueprint, they said the president shouldn’t hold the plan “hostage” in the debate over tax revenues. “While the president has backtracked on some of his entitlement reforms that were in conversations that we had a year and a half ago, he does deserve some credit for come incremental entitlement reforms that he has outlined in his budget,” Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters Wednesday

The U.S. Postal Service on Wednesday said it will delay a cost-cutting plan to end Saturday mail delivery, following congressional action that blocked the effort. Congress passed a temporary federal spending bill last month including language that prevents the agency -- which lost $15.9 billion last year -- from going to a Monday-to-Friday mail delivery schedule. The agency, which wanted to begin the new schedule Aug. 5, said the decision was made Tuesday by its board of governors. “By including restrictive language in the Continuing Resolution, Congress has prohibited implementation of a new national delivery schedule,”

President Obama´s budget plan would increase taxes by $580 billion over the next decade, but it relies on many proposals that have been repeatedly rejected by Congress. Some were rejected as recently as January, when Congress voted to make permanent a series of tax cuts first enacted under President George W. Bush. Among them, a proposal to limit itemized deductions for high-income families. One new proposal is a 94 cents-a-pack increase in the cigarette tax. The tax would raise an estimated $78 billion over the next decade to pay for early childhood education.

Thomas spoke to an appreciative audience at Duquesne Law School in Pittsburgh. The crowd of about 1,200 people responded with both applause and laughter as he discussed politics, the makeup of the Supreme Court, race, and his own struggles to find his path in life. Thomas said he doesn’t bear any ill-will toward other people who hold views sharply different from his.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.
