Based on this article, it would seem that the best way to ensure a roaring economy, would be for everyone to quit their jobs and live on unemployment benefits.

If Romeny was in the wings, UE, gas prices, homeless, grinding poverty, war, debt, the middle east, would all be front page news.

I´d guess that, according to this twisted logic, if all the "Makers" just said to hurl with it and laid down...we´d be BOOMING! Who was it that wrote about the broken window theory: that a broken window creates jobs because the storekeeper has to pay to get a new window and pay to put it in. But, it doesn´t show how the storekeeper could have spent his money more profitably if he wasn´t putting in a new window. One of those things might be hiring a person with that money!! Unemployment benefits aren´t enough for rent/mortgage, food and utilities. It might mean more landlords are getting the rent, but it doesn´t create jobs. Unemployed people don´t buy cars. In fact, many lease their belongings.

Well, they´ve already told us that hurricanes and other natural disasters are good for the economy because of all the rebuilding. Which proves, IMO, all the climate change hysterics need to shut up so we can grow the economy with severe weather.

That would have been my second guess about the extensions.

By the logic stated the government can raise employment by mailing everyone $10,000 for Christmas. (er, I meant the Holiday Season.)

And give every kid $1000 at school.

And with that higher income people would pay more income taxes and cut the deficit.

You get more of what you subsidize therefore: more unemployment benefits = more unemployment.

Stopping unemployment benefits would probably increase employment by millions.

People should enhance the unemployment situation by running their credit cards to the max. Think of all the jobs created by capitalists trying to fill their demands.

The unemployed, in particular, should do so because there is no tax consequence. And any tax paid on purchases would probably qualify as tax credits. More money in their pocket to spend.

Everybody winds - except those of us who pay taxes. No big deal.

No,thank you. I would rather save the $30 billion and let them get their own jobs. A gubmint check is not a job. In fact, a gubmint job is not a job. The program sounds so darn good that it is hard to come up with an answer as to why it
doesn´t work. Oh, maybe just taking a look at Greece will do the trick. I believe that there are long term unemployed folks there getting Government benefits, but darn - that economy just ain´t sizzling the way the Democrats advocating the program here promise.

I am thinking that the U.S. should just set the clock back to the 13 Colonies and do a
re-start. It would make much more sense than what our Government stands for now.
