Report: Extending jobless
benefits creates jobs

Associated Press, by Sam Hananel

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 11/30/2012 2:47:56 PM

WASHINGTON — Extending the current level of long-term unemployment benefits for another year would add 300,000 jobs to the economy, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office. The analysis released Wednesday from the nonpartisan office estimates that keeping jobless benefits would cost the government $30 billion. But it would also lead to more spending by the unemployed, boosting demand for goods and services and creating new jobs. Federal long-term unemployment benefits are set to expire on Dec. 29 for more than 2 million workers unless Congress approves an extension. Democrats have called for reauthorization of extended benefits

Based on this article, it would seem that the best way to ensure a roaring economy, would be for everyone to quit their jobs and live on unemployment benefits.

The best thing about Zippy being reelected is the constant stream of comletely bizarre stuff like this from our government and our MSM: but I repeat myself.

If Romeny was in the wings, UE, gas prices, homeless, grinding poverty, war, debt, the middle east, would all be front page news.

As it is, we get pictures of rainbows and unicorns that passes for "news".

Yup - and being unemployed makes you a better parent because you´re home with your kids....

How about anyone with even a small amount of common sense?
How about someone with the smallist amount of integrity?

We already know that they have no credibility and just repeat the braindead liberal talking points but don´t they ever get embarrassed by the stupid ranting or are they too deep into the Kool-Aid?

I´d guess that, according to this twisted logic, if all the "Makers" just said to hurl with it and laid down...we´d be BOOMING! Sad part is, there´s a large segment of the country that actually believes this BS. For this to be actually put out there for public consumption says a lot about where we´re headed...We are screwed folks...extremely screwed. Nobody can stop this insanity. Like alkys and drug addicts, we´re heading for rock bottom...and evidently that´s what it´s gonna take to start turning things around.

Who was it that wrote about the broken window theory: that a broken window creates jobs because the storekeeper has to pay to get a new window and pay to put it in. But, it doesn´t show how the storekeeper could have spent his money more profitably if he wasn´t putting in a new window. One of those things might be hiring a person with that money!! Unemployment benefits aren´t enough for rent/mortgage, food and utilities. It might mean more landlords are getting the rent, but it doesn´t create jobs. Unemployed people don´t buy cars. In fact, many lease their belongings.

That would have been my second guess about the extensions.

By the logic stated the government can raise employment by mailing everyone $10,000 for Christmas. (er, I meant the Holiday Season.)

And give every kid $1000 at school.

And with that higher income people would pay more income taxes and cut the deficit.

You get more of what you subsidize therefore: more unemployment benefits = more unemployment.

Stopping unemployment benefits would probably increase employment by millions.

People should enhance the unemployment situation by running their credit cards to the max. Think of all the jobs created by capitalists trying to fill their demands.

The unemployed, in particular, should do so because there is no tax consequence. And any tax paid on purchases would probably qualify as tax credits. More money in their pocket to spend.

Everybody winds - except those of us who pay taxes. No big deal.

WASHINGTON - As the first Obamacare enrollment period comes to a close, U.S. insurers are already anticipating the need to raise prices for 2015 and fear that it will put them at the center of the political blame game over President Barack Obama´s healthcare law. The Obama administration declared victory on Tuesday over signing up more than 7 million people for this year, overcoming technology failures that stymied enrollment in the program´s early weeks and Republican efforts to discredit it in the eyes of consumers. But insurers have already said that the first group of new enrollees under Obamacare, as

MOSCOW — Even as American and Russian diplomats groped toward a settlement that would halt further Russian military intervention in Ukraine, Gazprom, the Russian energy company, stepped up the economic pressure on Tuesday by sharply raising the price it charges for natural gas. Gazprom, a state-controlled gas exporter, raised the price to $385 for 1,000 cubic meters of gas, the standard measure used in gas deals in Europe, from $268, an increase of 44 percent. The price increase follows what analysts say is a long practice at Gazprom of punitive pricing for countries in the former Soviet Union and Eastern

In a speech to an enthusiastic crowd of 1,400 at the University of Michigan, Obama repeatedly mocked Republican ideas about how to improve the economy, as he touted his own proposal to raise the minimum wage. Obama, who visited the local Zingerman´s deli before the speech, said that Republican proposals to cut taxes for wealthier Americans and

A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. In a Tuesday appearance on HuffPost Live to discuss outreach to African American communities,

The North Carolina State Board of Elections has found thousands of instances of voter fraud in the state, thanks to a 28-state crosscheck of voter rolls. Initial findings suggest widespread election fraud. 765 voters with an exact match of first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in N.C. and the other state in the 2012 general election. 35,750 voters with the same first and last name and DOB were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in both states in the 2012 general election. 155,692 voters

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better.´ But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged Rose Garden appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night. Others were already insured, including millions who lost coverage when their existing policies were suddenly

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, criticized last year by a Vatican official for her support of abortion, received a rosary Tuesday from President Obama that was blessed by Pope Francis. Mrs. Pelosi told reporters of the president’s gift after having lunch with Mr. Obama at the White House. The president met with the pope last week at the Vatican. “I was happy to receive a rosary blessed by Pope Francis,” she said. “It means a great deal to me.” Last year, a Vatican official in Rome said that Mrs. Pelosi should be denied communion. “This is a person who obstinately,

Big changes could be just down the road for North Carolina drivers. A proposal is in the works that would change the state tax system to charge drivers by the mile, instead of at the gas pump. The proposal would be to charge a half cent per mile for cars, which would generate almost $500 million in annual state revenue. A driver who travelled 15,000 miles in a year would pay about $75. "Basically you pay per the mile. It´s treating transportation as a utility, much like your water and sewer," said Larry Goode, with the Institute of Transportation Research and

With Chris Christie in deep trouble, Republican poobahs are reportedly looking to Jeb Bush to save their party in 2016. The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.

New General Motors CEO Mary Barra will testify before Congress Tuesday about why it took so long for GM to issue product safety recalls involving faulty ignition switches that caused air bags to fail in crashes, contributing to thirteen deaths. She will testify alongside David Friedman, the acting head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), who will be expected to explain why the government did not act sooner. They ought to be accompanied by former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, as well as "car czars" Steven Rattner and Ron Bloom, together with White House and Treasury officials who oversaw

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is "looking" at banning the sale of tobacco at military installations. According to one military publication, Hagel appears to support it. "As the Navy considers banning tobacco sales on all bases and ships, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel gave a strong endorsement of the review Monday, and suggested that he would be in favor of a ban," reports Stars and Stripes. “I don’t know if there’s anybody in America who still thinks that tobacco is good for you,” Stars and Stripes quotes Hagel as saying. “We don’t allow smoking in any of our government buildings. Sarah Palin continues to act in ways that confirm some of the more negative things said about her. For example, she’s taken to Facebook to attack the most recent budget plan by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan.(Snip)Whatever differences Ms. Palin may have with the Ryan plan–and perhaps she’ll take the time to offer an actual critique of if rather than a Facebook entry with lots of upper case words–it’s hardly a joke. But what might elicit a roll of the eyes is comparing Ms. Palin’s views now versus what they were nearly four years ago. Consider this: On December
