| WASHINGTON — Extending the current level of long-term unemployment benefits for another year would add 300,000 jobs to the economy, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office. The analysis released Wednesday from the nonpartisan office estimates that keeping jobless benefits would cost the government $30 billion. But it would also lead to more spending by the unemployed, boosting demand for goods and services and creating new jobs. Federal long-term unemployment benefits are set to expire on Dec. 29 for more than 2 million workers unless Congress approves an extension. Democrats have called for reauthorization of extended benefits

Based on this article, it would seem that the best way to ensure a roaring economy, would be for everyone to quit their jobs and live on unemployment benefits.

The best thing about Zippy being reelected is the constant stream of comletely bizarre stuff like this from our government and our MSM: but I repeat myself.
If Romeny was in the wings, UE, gas prices, homeless, grinding poverty, war, debt, the middle east, would all be front page news.
As it is, we get pictures of rainbows and unicorns that passes for "news".
Yup - and being unemployed makes you a better parent because you´re home with your kids....

We already know that they have no credibility and just repeat the braindead liberal talking points but don´t they ever get embarrassed by the stupid ranting or are they too deep into the Kool-Aid?

I´d guess that, according to this twisted logic, if all the "Makers" just said to hurl with it and laid down...we´d be BOOMING! Sad part is, there´s a large segment of the country that actually believes this BS. For this to be actually put out there for public consumption says a lot about where we´re headed...We are screwed folks...extremely screwed. Nobody can stop this insanity. Like alkys and drug addicts, we´re heading for rock bottom...and evidently that´s what it´s gonna take to start turning things around. FORWARD! OFF THE CLIFF!

Who was it that wrote about the broken window theory: that a broken window creates jobs because the storekeeper has to pay to get a new window and pay to put it in. But, it doesn´t show how the storekeeper could have spent his money more profitably if he wasn´t putting in a new window. One of those things might be hiring a person with that money!! Honestly, these feed a person a small fish have small expectations and see rainbows in every little water sprinkler!

# 10, the purpose of the AP article is to reinforce BO´s claims that Repubs are Scrooge. The AP´s brain is invested in operating a PR campaign for Obama. AP helped get this failure reelected, and it does not intend to stop after 11/6.

Unemployment benefits aren´t enough for rent/mortgage, food and utilities. It might mean more landlords are getting the rent, but it doesn´t create jobs. Unemployed people don´t buy cars. In fact, many lease their belongings.

That would have been my second guess about the extensions.
By the logic stated the government can raise employment by mailing everyone $10,000 for Christmas. (er, I meant the Holiday Season.)
And give every kid $1000 at school.
And with that higher income people would pay more income taxes and cut the deficit.

You get more of what you subsidize therefore: more unemployment benefits = more unemployment.
Stopping unemployment benefits would probably increase employment by millions.

People should enhance the unemployment situation by running their credit cards to the max. Think of all the jobs created by capitalists trying to fill their demands.
The unemployed, in particular, should do so because there is no tax consequence. And any tax paid on purchases would probably qualify as tax credits. More money in their pocket to spend.
Everybody winds - except those of us who pay taxes. No big deal.

A retired man has fallen victim to a pet poodle hoax after his local veterinarian uncovered he had been sold two giant rodents pumped up with steroids. Bargain hunters rummaging around Argentina’s largest flea market, La Salada, have been duped into spending hundreds of dollars on what they have been told is the dog of their dreams. In reality, they’ve just been sold what locals call the ‘Brazilian rat’ – a ferret pumped up on steroids and groomed to resemble a fluffy toy poodle. KABUL, Afghanistan -- A NATO airstrike in eastern Afghanistan killed 11 civilians, 10 of them children, in addition to the Taliban militants it was trying to hit, Afghan officials said. The strike late Saturday in the Shigal district of restive Kunar province near Pakistan was called by coalition forces after they and their Afghan counterparts came under an attack that killed one American advisor and badly wounded four Afghan troops. The American death was reported on Saturday, but details of the alleged civilian casualties only surfaced Sunday. Wasifullah Wasifi, spokesperson for the governor of Kunar province, said the strike

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

The fast-food chain says it´s introducing deep-fried boneless chicken pieces on April 14 as an alternative to its traditional breast, thigh and drumstick pieces. The new offering reflects the growing popularity of nuggets and strips that are easier to eat on the go, as well as Americans´ seemingly endless desire for more convenient foods. KFC says nearly four out of five servings of chicken sold in the U.S. are now boneless. Based on customer trends

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

Annette Funicello, the dark-haired darling of TV´s “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950s who further cemented her status as a pop-culture icon in the ´60s by teaming with Frankie Avalon in a popular series of “beach” movies, died Monday. She was 70. Funicello, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and became a spokeswoman for treatment of the chronic, often-debilitating disease of the central nervous system, died at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, Walt Disney Co. spokesman Howard Green said. Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. Remember the clap-happy report from Dennis Rodman´s diplomatic basketball vacation? This video comes courtesy of the same Youtube channel that gave us that Rodman video. It appears to be the same state news channel.(Snip for video)This latest dispatch from North Korea´s state television

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
