McConnell slams the door on
raising tax rates in deficit deal

The Hill, by Alexander Bolton

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 11/29/2012 1:18:47 PM

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) slammed the door Thursday morning on Democratic demands to raise tax rates on families earning more than $250,000 per year. “We’re insisting on keeping tax rates where they are, first and foremost, to protect jobs and because we don’t think government needs the money in the first place,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “The problem, as I’ve said, is that Washington spends too much. But if more revenue is the price that Democrats want to exact, then we should at least agree to do it in a way that doesn’t cost jobs

Republican usually bluster just before they cave. I still prefer they take the no division approach - either leave all tax rates the same or increase them all. Congress represents all the People and shouldn´t be picking winners or scapegoats. Make them choose between current or higher.

Both John Boehner and Mitch McConnell made ´´slamming-the-door´´ statements today about the budget negotiations, which, if those two ´´leaders´´ had an iota of credibility between them would have caused U.S. stock markets to collapse. Instead, the DOW is up 46 points now.

Unless they back their statements with actions, such as leaving Washington because Obama has refused to negotiate in good faith, as they contend, the vaudeville duo of Boehner and McConnell might as well save their breath before opening their mouths again in public.

He should be demanding that the Democrat Senate present their budget proposals, and present them to the Senate for a vote.

Then walk away from the microphone.

Stop negotiating with yourself.

Reply, "we´ve said all items are on the table, but the Democrats don´t seem to be offering any ideas except taxing the top two income brackets which will only fund the gov´t for about 1 week."

Amen #10. No wonder is right! Guess it depends on which side some are really on. Demonrats don´t have that problem. They stick together no matter what their candidates or elected "leaders" say or do. Republicans can´t please some no matter WHAT they do or say. Personally I am glad to hear both Mitch McConnell and John Boehner "slam the door on raising taxes". Perhaps instead of grousing all the time, gopers could have a little trust and offer an "attaboy" once in awhile...never mind.

A lot of people on this thread need to grow up. McConnell doesn´t control what Senate Republicans do; each votes his conscience. When McConnell - and Boehner, too - say there is no support for increasing tax rates, he is saying what the majority of his caucus is telling him, not the other way around.

If McConnell ever does agree to accept higher rates, it will mean that the majority of GOP Senators have already agreed to accept higher rates.

Russell Crowe stars in Darren Aronofsky´s Bible-based epic. Darren Aronofsky wrestles one of scripture´s most primal stories to the ground and extracts something vital and audacious, while also pushing some aggressive environmentalism, in Noah. Whereas for a century most Hollywood filmmakers have tread carefully and respectfully when tackling biblical topics in big-budget epics aimed at a mass audience, Aronofsky has been daring, digging deep to develop a bold interpretation of a tale which, in the original, offers a lot of room for speculation and invention. The narrative of the global flood that wiped out almost all earthly life is the original

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said.
