| Former President George H.W. Bush remains in a Houston hospital, where he has been for seven days as doctors battle a lingering cough that has drawn concern, officials said Thursday. Bush, 88, has bronchitis, but his condition is not considered life threatening, said his chief of staff, Jean Becker. "President Bush is in the hospital," Becker said. "We have kept this quiet out of respect for him." Bush has been in and out of Methodist Hospital for a few weeks, and was most recently admitted the day after Thanksgiving, she said.

I saw him speak, in person, twice: at the christening of the aircraft carrier named for him [christened by sponsor Doro Bush Koch, and smartly, too]; and at the commissioning of the ship. The crowds were huge at both ceremonies.
Christening Day was drizzly. Toward the end of his remarks there was a thunderclap in the distance. Mr. Bush took a sidelong glance at the heavens and said, "It´s OK, Lord. I´m almost done."
Both were great days, full of great memories. I was there because my daughter is a Plankowner on the ship.
#5: Let´s hope that in a hundred years historians are smart enough to know that "the voters" are not a monolithic entity, all sharing the same [lack of] understanding of issues and candidates, the same interests, and the same thinking. Yes, that´s a thin hope.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry recently shocked millions with her brazen TV promo spot urging us to get rid of the idea that kids belong to their parents or to "private" families. She presses us to replace it with a "collective" notion of children: "Kids belong to whole communities." Clearly, we are entering a new phase in family breakdown. In the earlier phases, leftist policies cultivated unrestrained sexual license, abortion and single parenting.

The report estimates that nearly 3 million Californians could be eligible for generous insurance subsidies under the 2010 healthcare reform law, starting next year. Anyone with an income between one and four times the federal poverty line -- in other words, between $23,550 and $94,200 for a family of four -- could receive a tax credit that reduces monthly premiums dramatically.

PHILADELPHIA— It happened again. As soon as the warm weather hit, a large group of students in Center City caused a ruckus, endangered themselves, police and pedestrians. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has charged 10 juveniles with Conspiracy, Obstructing Highways, Failure to Disperse and Disorderly Conduct. All 10 defendants are scheduled for a detention hearing Wednesday at the Youth Studies Center in Philadelphia. Four other teens were also arrested by Philadelphia Police on Tuesday evening, and they are currently being processed by police.
