From Watergate to Benghazi,
where are Bernstein and
Woodward when we need them

Washington Times, by George Weir

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/29/2012 11:45:06 AM

WASHINGTON, ? The Benghazi coverup makes Watergate look like child´s play. The White House is refuting testimony by former CIA Director David Petraeus to Congress saying the administration didn’t make any changes in its early talking points about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, to downplay the role of terrorists. This sounds something akin to the Watergate cover-up in 1970s, but there is one notable difference: In Benghazi we have four murdered Americans. The Watergate scandal was a political scandal in the 1970s, the result of a June 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee

Comments:
Catherine Herridge and Jennifer Griffin have done incredible reporting on the matter. They are not mentioned in this article. The other media could care less until they got a whiff of a sex scandal.

It very simple really. Watergate was an attempt to bring down a Republican President and the Benghazi Scandal should bring down a Democrat President. Any fool can see the differnce here. There are far better reporters than Berstein and Woodward who are more than willing to take this on but the bought and paid for media will not support them or report on their findings. Oh yeah, another difference is that nobody died from Watergate.

If the White House wants to truely refute Petraeus´s testimony, then let them do under oath. Well, you know they will not do that.

Zaid Jilani, a former blogger with the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress, explained this week how the Obama administration frequently tries to censor the progressive organization’s content when it departs from the White House’s agenda. Jiliani was reacting to two on-air protests by journalists opposed to Russia’s invasion of southern Ukraine. The two worked for Russia Today (RT) — an English-speaking media outlet funded directly by Moscow — and felt their bosses were trying to censor their opinions. In a post titled, ”How Working in Washington Taught Me We’re All A Little Like RT America,” Jilani explained how

And that is why it is a mistake to brush him off as a bumbling amateur. Obama, he said, knows exactly what he is doing. A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Friday shows only 22 percent are opposed to the project. The poll shows there has been little movement in support or opposition to the pipeline in the last year. A Pew poll last April found 66 percent backed construction. Majorities of every political party back the pipeline, with Republicans most in favor. Eighty-two percent of Republicans back the effort, while 65 percent of independents and 51 percent of Democrats feel the same.

So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. WASHINGTON — Charles G. and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who are perhaps the best-known patrons of conservative Republican politics, are bespectacled and in their 70s. They look genial enough. But Democrats are embarking on a broad effort that aims to unmask the press-shy siblings and portray them, instead, as a pair of villains bent on wrecking progressive politics. On Thursday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is starting a digital campaign that will use Internet ads and videos, as well as social media, to tie Republican Senate candidates to the policies and actions of the Koch brothers.
