The New York Times reports that union organizers are trying to convince fast food workers to unionize. The effort is being led by New York Communities for Change which is the name of the reorganized and rebranded former ACORN office in Brooklyn. “I feel I deserve $15 an hour,” said Linda Archer, 59 a McDonalds cashier. “I work very hard.” Archer currently earns $8 an hour and averages 24 hours a week. In 2010, an ACORN spokesman confirmed to the New York Post that New York Communities for Change, “has many of the same board members as ACORN,

Why stop at $15 /hour?

And when you can´t afford to go to that same fast food restaurant because the cost of the items is too high, and that establishment closes?

Sorry, but if you think you "work very hard" as a McDonalds cashier, then you don´t know what hard work is. It may be tedious and the customers may be aggravating at times, but the job has been dumbed down to where a semi-literate can perform the task. This days you have to respect anyone willing to work, but wages are commensurate with skills needed for the job.

Ive been in more than one fast food establishment where the moron behind the counter was unable to count past her 10 fingers. Hardly worth even the minimum wage that she was "earning". That said.......

The cost of fast food has risen to the point where its just about 10.00 for a meal. Anyone remember the commercial where you got a hamburger, fries and a coke and got change back from your $1.00? For a few dollars more, I can eat in a restaraunt where someone comes to my table to take my order and where I´m not eating out of a styrofoam box. Sales will drop, people will be laid off, benefits will be cut, hours will be reduced, and the poor pitiful poor wont be able to afford to eat at a McDonalds, until doing so is declared to be a tax payer subsidized right. And worse, the "unionized" workers dont reap any real benefits.....the union fat cat bosses are to busy with their 6 figure incomes and limosines payed for by union dues.

Your $15/hr request will get you zero dollars in an unemployment line. You make $8/hr as a cashier because that is the value of the labor for the task you perform. If your pay suddenly doubled half the employees in your shoppe would be laid off and you`d be working twice as hard for the doubling of your money. Then, you`d complain you should be making $20/hr because you work really really hard.

If it matters Miss Archer, I just explained to you why you are making $8/hr.

Seen an elevator operator lately?

With pictures on cash register buttons, who needs an cashier? Press the meal you want, feed it a credit card or cash, get receipt and wait for your order to appear.

So keep grousing and watch your job be eliminated

#11, boy are you onto something, all you have to do is turn the order box around and handle cash like the self checkout at Home Depot/Lowes.

Better yet, put up bullet proof plexiglass and a "window" to pass the tray out and you´ve solved another problem - the jerks can´t jump up on the counter and attack the employees.

(Down side, they´ll turn their anger on the other customers.)

Donohue has previously said that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce would "pull out all the stops" to get immigration reform this year. The group reportedly plans to spend $50 million to blunt the influence of the Tea Party, largely because it opposes amnesty, and millions more to push for immigration reform legislation that the Congressional Budget Office has said would lower the wages of American workers. To hear them talk, you would think our chief executive is modeling himself on the late Hugo Chavez and wants to seize dictatorial control. This, of course, is nonsense. In fact, Obama has in many ways been less aggressive in his use of executive authority than his predecessors. Take the matter of executive orders.
