Douglas Kennedy Is Sued
in Hospital Scuffle

Associated Press, by Staff

Two nurses in Westchester County have filed a $200,000 lawsuit against Douglas Kennedy, a son of Robert F. Kennedy, accusing him of assault and battery, negligence and causing them emotional and physical distress after an episode involving his newborn son. The Journal News of Westchester reported that the lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, a week after a court in Mount Kisco, N.Y., acquitted Mr. Kennedy of child-endangerment and harassment charges.

Nurses hear the name Kennedy and Ka-Ching - lawsuit. As much as I despise the whole Kennedy-worship crap (Chris Matthews in full drool), that much more to I hate lawyers, lawsuits, and greed.

Taking a newborn out for fresh air? I´ll be he actually thinks that is a logical statement. What a total crock. He obviously feels that as a Kennedy, he does not have to follow the same rules as the rest of us peons.

The Kenedies think they are better than us. They do not have to pay their bills. they do not tip waitresses. they demand special treatment and a table without reservations. We should be happy just to have them grace us with their presence in our businesses. I want to see them sued and sued good when their jerk act presents a legal claim. The nurses aren´t going to get rich off this. We do not have duels in this country. When someone slaps your face, you cannot sword fight them at dawn. You have to settle for a lawsuit.

I support the nurses. They would have intervened and not allowed Joe Citizen to take a baby out either. There cannot be double standards, one for the Kennedy´s and one for the rest of us. That is what the Kennedys need to understand. Rules are rules.
They aren´t after his money. It is the principle.

Posters supporting this thug obviously don´t know the whole story and haven´t been in a labor ward or NICU of late. All babies are fitted with security anklets to prevent kidnappings. Parents sign documents acknowledging this and agreeing to keep the baby within the confines of the unit/secure zone during their stay. When someone takes a baby beyond the zone (which is always well marked) the hospital goes into complete lockdown - elevators will not operate, all doors are locked (including stairwells) and nobody can enter or leave the building. Imagine the security nightmare, then add to that these nurses were doing their job and were physically assaulted for it. I think $200,000 is a drop in the bucket under the circumstances.

There is never a good reason to get violent with nurses inside a hospital. I agree with #8. We just had a grand child born in a big maternity hospital, and just as #8 said, that´s the way it was. This particular Kennedy needs an enema big time.

His lawyer is just trying fruitlessly to improve his reputation. There will be a settlement - the video and hospital rules introduced as evidence would mean an automatic win and the amount is small change for him. What surprises me is that his lawyer hasn´t arranged a quiet buy-off already. Maybe this Kennedy is too dysfunctional to deal with.

US autism estimate
rises to 1 in 68 children

The government’s estimate of autism has moved up again to 1 in 68 U.S. children, a 30 percent increase in two years. But health officials say the new number may not mean autism is more common. Much of the increase is believed to be from a cultural and medical shift, with doctors diagnosing autism more frequently, especially in children with milder problems. “We can’t dismiss the numbers. But we can’t interpret it to mean more people are getting the disorder,” said Marisela Huerta, a psychologist at the New York-Presbyterian Center for Autism and the Developing Brain in suburban White Plains, N.Y.

The state with the most segregated public schools is New York. Other states with exceptionally segregated schools include California, Illinois and Michigan. These findings come from a longitudinal study of enrollment figures conducted by the Civil Rights Project at the University of California at Los Angeles, The Associated Press reports. The period studied was 1998 through 2010. New York, California, Illinois and Michigan are traditionally among the most reliably Democratic states in the union, as an interactive 2012 map created by Slate shows.

A law firm hired by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday that the governor was not involved in a plot to create gridlock near a major bridge as part of a political retribution scheme. The taxpayer-funded report released by former federal prosecutor Randy Mastro relies on interviews with Christie and other officials in his administration and 250,000 documents, many of them emails and text messages. "We found that Gov. Christie had no knowledge beforehand of this George Washington Bridge realignment idea," Mastro said at a news conference. His report comes out ahead of any results from independent investigations by federal prosecutors and

Russian forces completed their take over of the Ukrainian navy’s assets in Crimea with the storming of the minesweeper Cherkessy. The Ukrainian navy has been reduced to only 10 vessels, with the other 51 it held at the beginning of this month, including its only submarine, now flying the Russian flag. But of all the Ukrainian military assets Russia has seized during the annexation, none is quite as unusual as the combat dolphin program. The horrific effect that drugs can have on addicts have been highlighted in a series of disturbing pictures and video. The photographs show American users of cocaine, heroin, oxy-codone and crystal meth in various stages of addiction. The before shots all show healthy-looking individuals prior to their becoming involved in substance abuse. The after shots show the same faces with terrible, blotchy skin, gaunt and hardened features, wrinkled skin and wild eyes. The campaign was launched by Rehabs.com, the organisation that ran the very successful Faces Of Meth campaign in 2012, which showed the devastating impact of meth addiction. Late on Tuesday night, the White House “decided to give extra time” to prospective Affordable Care Act enrollees. At least, that’s how The Washington Post put it, though it is unlikely that the changes they made to the ACA’s online infrastructure was the result of a spur–of–the–moment decision. Administration officials maintain that they are simply giving consumers who may be interested in insurance, but have not yet selected or paid for coverage, an extra two weeks to complete the arduous enrollment process. They add that this extension is only available to those who have begun the process of enrollment by March

When things go wrong live on air, they call it “car crash TV”, which is a pretty good description of how it feels to those in the driving seat. Terrifying, yet slow-moving enough for you to contemplate the tragic irony just before hitting the lamppost. As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.
