Poll: Obama, Congress will blow
new taxes, not cut deficit

Washington Examiner, by Paul Bedard

Original Article

Posted By:markinalpine, 11/26/2012 8:55:32 PM

Americans have a pretty good idea of what President Obama and Congress will do if they raise taxes as expected: It will be blown on expanding the government, not cutting the deficit as Washington is promising. A new Rasmussen Reports poll finds that 48 percent of likely voters believe that new taxes are likely to be used for new government programs. Some 38 have faith that the president and Congress will keep their word and cut spending and deficits and 14 percent are not sure. The fight over preventing the so-called "fiscal cliff" are hung up on taxes

Comments:
You can tell how serious the obysmal won is when he sends Tax-Cheat Timmy Geithner to the negotiations.

And yet, they still voted for him! I have lost all faith in the intelligence of the average american voter. Knowing what a pathetic farce the last four years have been they said "Sure, Finish destroying the economy as long as I get my goodies."

If you have time, calculate the number of people who are going to be getting free medical care (well, free for them) paid for by your tax dollars. Add the folks who are on welfare, food stamps, and section 8 housing and remember that you are paying for that. Then add the outrageous pensions and disability rates of our so-called public servents. Yes that´s your money too! Then throw in the featherbedded salaries and benefits of congress, Amtrak, and yes the post office. Then toss in the national debt and the unfunded entitlements. If your brain hasn´t exploded by now you don´t have one. You are being systematically ripped off at every level of government.

Don´t worry, be happy. It won´t be long before this economy will implode and then we can try to put a truly free nation back together again.

This article is late off the mark. Weeks ago Schumer was out there outllining his plan to spend any increase to the tax rate on another stimulous (no doubt to benefit unions, bundlers, and friends), longer unemployment checks, etc.

An authoritative new poll of more than 15,000 cops released on the eve of this week´s Senate anti-gun debate shows that a sweeping majority of officers don´t believe gun control will work or keep them safer, and nearly nine in 10 believe having more armed citizens would curb gun violence. According to the lengthy survey of law enforcement professionals, one of the largest ever of street cops, 85 percent believe that President Obama´s gun control plan to ban assault weapons, limit the size of ammo magazines and expand background checks won´t improve their safety

The deputy Prime Minister said it risked "undermining public confidence" to let illegal immigrants stay if they have been in the country for more than 10 years. In his first major speech on immigration, he abandoned the controversial proposal, which was championed by the Liberal Democrats at the last election. Mr Clegg previously supported the idea of "earned citizenship" for illegal immigrants. NEW YORK - A long-forgotten piece of America´s military history is going up for sale. The original smaller statue of the iconic raising of the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima in 1945 is expected to fetch up to $1.8 million later this month at a New York auction dedicated to World War II artifacts. That such a statue even exists is news to all but the most ardent history buffs. Most Americans are familiar with the 32-foot-tall Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va. Springfield - Illinois fell to the bottom of all 50 states in the rankings of a major credit ratings agency Friday following the failure of Gov. Pat Quinn and lawmakers to fix the state´s hemorrhaging pension system during this month´s lame-duck session. Standard & Poor´s Ratings Service downgraded Illinois in what is the latest fallout over the $96.8 billion debt to five state pension systems. The New York firm´s ranking signaled that taxpayers may pay tens of millions of dollars more in interest when the state borrows money for roads and other projects. The group had managed to steal rum, oil, rice, cans of tuna and sardines from a small shop in the tiny north Caribbean town of Juan de Acosta, according to Noticias Caracol. They planned to load the goods onto 10-year-old Xavi, who they had stolen some 12 hours before, and make their escape. But the animal let out a series of ´hee-haws´ and unfortunately for the trio alerted nearby police.

The simplest statements sometimes are the most insightful. For an example, consider this one on Wednesday from Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, in reaction to President Obama´s gun-control proposals: "I would welcome the opportunity to debate these issues on the floor of the Senate, and would encourage Majority Leader [Harry] Reid to schedule a full and open debate." In these seemingly innocuous words are a key to GOP revival. A troubling oversight has been found within New York State´s sweeping new gun laws. The ban on having high-capacity magazines, as it´s written, would also include law enforcement officers. Magazines with more than seven rounds will be illegal under the new law when that part takes effect in March. As the statute is currently written, it does not exempt law enforcement officers. Nearly every law enforcement agency in the state carries hand guns that have a 15 round capacity. In Sunday’s New York Times, Elisabeth Rosenthal claimed, as the title of her article put it, “More Guns = More Killing.” She based this on evidence that would never be permitted in any other context at the Times: (1) anecdotal observations; and (2) bald assertions of an activist, blandly repeated with absolutely no independent fact-checking by the Times. There is an academic, peer-reviewed, long-term study of the effect of various public policies on public, multiple shootings in all 50 states over a 20-year period performed by renowned economists at the University of Chicago and Yale

In Obama´s Audacity of Hope, he stated, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in any ugly direction." He also asserted in Bob Woodward´s Obama´s Wars, "We can absorb [another] terrorist attack." These are two straightforward statements that raise the question of whether a man who has been seemingly obsessed with reaching out to "the Muslim world" since taking office is capable of fulfilling his duty as commander-in-chief to keep America safe and secure.

George W. Bush will return to the spotlight this week for the dedication of his presidential library, an event likely to trigger fresh public debate about his eight fateful years in office. But he reemerges with a better public image than when he left Washington more than four years ago. Since then, Bush has absented himself from both policy disputes and political battles. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll suggests that the passage of time and Bush’s relative invisibility have been beneficial to a chief executive who left office surrounded by controversy.

In debate classes or law school, it is often referred to as the ‘arguing against the non-existing opponent’ tactic. The way it works is you imply your opponent is making an outlandish, unsavory claim (though he isn’t), hoping others will run with it or, at worst, that your opponent won’t sufficiently correct it and the claim sticks. To illustrate, imagine Sally is arguing in favor of marijuana’s legalization against Tom. In the middle of the debate, Tom suddenly shrieks: “Well, Sally, you can talk about legalizing marijuana all you want but I just don’t believe

THE graying man flashing fury in the Rose Garden on behalf of the Newtown families, the grieving man wiping away tears after speaking at the Boston memorial service, is not the same man who glided into office four years ago. President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston.

President Obama´s sequester scare strategy has been a political flop, but his government keeps trying. The latest gambit is to force airline flight delays until enough travellers stuck on tarmacs browbeat enough Republicans to raise taxes again. This week the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began furloughing each of its air-traffic controllers for one day out of every 10 to achieve roughly $600 million in savings this fiscal year. The White House dubiously claims that the furloughs are required by the sequester spending cuts enacted in 2011.

Following the attack in Boston, some politicians, including Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dan Coats (R-IN), advised slowing down immigration reform legislation in order to allow further debate and not make rushed decisions based on emotions. In an interview with Bloomberg’s Trish Regan, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized his colleagues, deeming the argument “ludicrous.” Grassley’s remarks on Friday immediately caught attention when he said, “Given the events of this week, it’s important for us to understand the gaps and loopholes in our immigration system.” “How can individuals evade authorities and plan such attacks on our soil?” he asked.
