Egypt´s President Doesn´t Understand
Why Everybody´s So Mad at Him

Atlantic, by Adam Clark Estes

Original Article

As protests continued to rage in Tahrir Square and pretty much every political party in the country united in opposition to his newfound power, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi is surprised. It was three days ago that Morsi issued a decree that grants him immunity from the country´s courts, an aggressive move that practically gives the former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood unchecked authority and earned him the nickname "Pharaoh." To us folks stateside, this all sounds quite unbelievable, since last year, the Egyptian people rose up in fury to oust Hosni Mubarak whom they believed had too much power.

Not to me and any other thinking non-liberal. After all, it is the Middle East, with a rich history of killing each other going back thousands of years and they are, after all, muslims. unbelievable? I think not.

I think you have to remember that President Morsi is a product of the Brothers, who were repressed and attacked throughout the Mubarik years.

He probably figures "They took it from him, they´ll take it from me". In that, he has missed the core of the "Arab Spring" - they are not taking it anymore!

Don´t get too excited. The protestors don´t stand a chance. Remember the protests in Iran when over a hundred thousand protested against the oppressive Islamist government a couple of years ago? It was brutally put down by the Ahmadinijad´s government which was backed by the "Supreme Leader", Ayatollah Khemeini. This protest in Egypt will meet the same end. Its what Islamic governements do. They don´t have to worry, they have Allah on their side.

HBO’s True Detective sounds like your average celebrity-studded crime procedural. Yet, buoyed by Matthew McConaughey, it’s one of the most riveting and provocative series ever. Period. Perhaps the only bothersome byproduct of the Great Golden Age of Television we´re currently living in is the fact that all of us now feel compelled to evangelize—incessantly—on behalf of our most beloved shows. ARLINGTON — The leading contenders for governor clashed Thursday on public education, as Democrat Wendy Davis called for more money for teachers and Republican Greg Abbott dismissed her proposals as “fuzzy math.” Davis unveiled a plan that would bring teacher salaries in line with the average pay nationwide. She also proposed guaranteeing high school students interested in becoming teachers a spot in college and a job when they finish their studies. Davis would also enhance a state college-loan repayment program for educators. “Education must be the Number 1 priority we address as a state,” the Fort Worth state senator said during a panel

PARKES, Australia—Elias Jamhour has a problem. He´s bigger than Elvis. Or at least that´s the case on a train departing Sydney for one of the unlikeliest Elvis festivals on the planet. As the tribute artist gyrates through the carriages on a seven-hour journey into the Australian countryside, the attentions of his fans—many of whom wear badges declaring "Elias 4 Elvis" and "I-heart-Elias"—becomes suffocating as he is mobbed by increasingly exuberant middle-aged women full of cheer and bored by the limited view of eucalyptus forests that give way to endless cattle and sheep farms. The U.S. State Department warned Americans on Friday of the potential for terrorism at the Sochi Olympics but said it was not aware of any specific threat to U.S. citizens. In a "travel warning," the department urged Americans to be vigilant about personal security at the February 7 to March 14 Olympic Games, and flagged the possibility of petty crime, inadequate medical care and hotel shortages. It also highlighted a Russian law, much criticized by rights groups, that would make it a crime to publicly promote the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. On January 19, 2011, in one of their very first actions after retaking majority control of the House of Representatives, Republicans voted to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. The vote was largely symbolic; no one expected the Democratic Senate to take up the measure. But for the House GOP, the repeal vote was the necessary fulfillment of the core campaign promise that helped sweep them back into power. That promise, however, was only half fulfilled. Republicans had not merely vowed to remove Obamacare; they also said they would pass a program of their own in

Boy, have progressives “evolved.” The party of saloon protesters, suffragettes and crusaders against smoking, prostitution and immigration are now the champions of government-regulated vice. They no longer want to save souls, but use them to increase tax revenue to fund an ever expanding list of new priorities in a turnaround that would likely make Frances Willard, the famous head of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in the late 1800s, reach for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s. The reversal is not totally consistent, however. No sooner had progressives successfully helped to ban smoking everywhere in public places had they moved on to champion

So when a deep freeze strikes, scientists say, it seems more unprecedented than it really is. An Associated Press analysis of the daily national winter temperature shows that cold extremes have happened about once every four years since 1900.Until recently. When computer models estimated that the national average daily temperature for the Lower 48 states dropped to 17.9 degrees on Monday, it was the first deep freeze of that magnitude

WASHINGTON -- It came as a shock: U.S. employers added just 74,000 jobs in December, far fewer than anyone expected. This from an economy that had been adding nearly three times as many for four straight months - a key reason the Federal Reserve decided last month to slow its economic stimulus. So what happened in December? Economists struggled for explanations: Unusually cold weather. A statistical quirk. A temporary halt in steady job growth. Blurring the picture, a wave of Americans stopped looking for work, meaning they were no longer counted as unemployed. Their exodus cut the unemployment rate from
