| China has successfully landed a jet fighter on its new aircraft carrier for the first time, officials say. A Chinese-made J-15 fighter landed on the 300m (990ft) former Soviet carrier during recent exercises, China´s defence ministry said on Sunday. The Liaoning, China´s first aircraft carrier, entered into service in September. China says the vessel has had extensive sea trials and will increase its capacity to defend state interests. Whooo... The United States first did it when -- 1911 or something like that.
Is this a problem? Yes, but I figure the learning curve for chinese carrier operations is pretty steep -- and that includes the data the chicoms bought from bubba and the piaps, and all the rest they simply pinched, as usual.

The Chinese are getting better very quickly. They have been studying us for a long time, so there are a lot of mistakes they don´t have to work through. Once they get things sorted out, they will start churning our carriers. Within 10 years they will have the skills to be global maritime power.

It took them 15 years to refit it after they acquired it from the Ukraine. It takes us about 5 to build one from scratch. #2 is correct - the learning curve for operating one is steep.
Landing a heavy fighter like the J-15 is one thing, launching one fully loaded is another. It doesn´t appear that she has catapults, relying instead on the ramped deck.

A new toy for China to play with for the next 50 years. Maybe they can intimidate the Vietnam and Philippines of the world to finally give up claims to the Spratley Shoals when the Chinese Navy sails the carrier into Cam Rahn or Manila Bay.

This is for training across the board from mechanics, aviators, navigators to propulsion and shipyard skills.
They need not travel far to circle Taiwan or make Japan nervous.
We have internal problems as well as the middle east. Then with little leadership backbone to do anything but talk and pass resolutions, we´re no help to anyone.
What would we do anyway? We owe China a chunk of money.
Once the initial setup and cadre training is in place efficiencies begin to take hold everything moves faster. They have a plan and appear to be sticking to it. Like Iran being a problem for how many years, 10 now?
We´ll stand by and watch China grow.

They ARE getting stronger and we ARE getting weaker. How soon the lines cross on the chart is unknown, but I fear it will be sooner rather than later. They are prepared to run risks and lose people in a way that would never be tolerated by the media party here.
We may lead in gender integration in the military for a long time to come, but that may not be a war-winning advantage.

The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass.
