Obama Shops Local Bookstore

ABC News, by Matthew Larotonda

WASHINGTON, D.C. —President Barack Obama and his daughters Sasha and Malia did some holiday shopping near Washington today. Dropping in on One More Page Books in Arlington, Va., Obama spent the afternoon outside the White House to promote Small Business Saturday. The family spent roughly 20 minutes inside the store, spending some of the time quietly conversing with locals. Obama reportedly brought a shopping list on his BlackBerry smartphone. “Preparation, you know,” the president told shop owner Eileen McGervey. “That’s how I shop. Michelle, she can go wandering around.”

Those who fraudulently claim to have written books which were actually written by others and who sell these books in places such as this might be more careful about returning to the scene of the crime.

But then these are the least of his crimes.

FTA “Come on, we’re doing Christmas shopping,” he responded. “Happy Thanksgiving, folks.” There it is folks, the long-awaited plan to get the economy on solid footing: Christmas shopping.
Seriously, did he wander around to see how many adoring tomes about himself adorned the shelves?
Were the 15 childrens books actually his selected reading for the annual trip to Hawaii?
How hip and up-to-date: a shopping list on his Blackberry. Think of that yourself Mr. President?
Did anyone follow him to see if those books landed in a dumpster a few blocks away?

U.S. reacts cautiously to Ukraine upheaval

WASHINGTON — Only a few weeks ago, the turmoil in Ukraine seemed like a remote conflict in which Washington had little at stake and not a great deal of leverage. Now, however, it is clear that the apparent collapse of the old order in Ukraine could leave the Obama administration with a mess it cannot ignore. The challenges that could soon face the White House include a Yugoslavia-style civil war, an expensive economic bailout and further damage to its strained but crucial relationship with Moscow. Accordingly, the administration reacted cautiously Saturday to the departure of President Viktor Yanukovich from the

Kerry Kennedy may agree to a plea deal over driving while drugged charges stemming from a 2012 accident so she can continue her extensive human rights work. Kennedy, 54, is afraid a conviction would bring with it restrictions that would curtail her international travels – she has visited several dozen countries on humanitarian missions. The plea deal was previously discussed between her legal team and prosecutors before being shelved, but her attorneys have brought it back to the table with her trial slated to start Monday, according to the New York Daily News.

PARIS — Laulhere, a 174-year-old beret- maker, is fighting to keep the quintessential French headgear French. Laulhere became the country´s sole maker of traditional berets after it recently bought Blancq-Olibet, its only French competitor, which was almost 200 years old. Cheaper knockoffs from China, India and the Czech Republic made survival hard for local makers of berets, which have been as much a symbol of France as baguettes and Gauloises cigarettes. What´s the best way to minimize the number of guns on California´s streets? That´s the question confronting gun control supporters after this month´s ruling by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down San Diego´s restrictions on carrying handguns in public. That case was brought by gun owners who applied for but were denied permits to carry concealed weapons. San Diego will undoubtedly appeal the decision in the hope of saving its restrictive policy for awarding concealed carry permits. Lawmakers who support gun control might want to consider another option: Rewrite state law to allow people to carry guns

Author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza speculated to Megyn Kelly Friday night that FBI’s indictment of him for campaign finance fraud may be Alinsky-style political retribution for his anti-Obama film 2016. Earlier this week, four Senators sent a letter to FBI Director James Comey demanding an explanation for what they termed the “selective prosecution” of D’Souza. “I am a public critic of the president and I do recognize this has made me vulnerable to a form of counterattack,” D’Souza said. He added that Obama, whom he characterized as “vindictive,” had released a video response to 2016 on his website, proving the

This week millions of the religious faithful in America are to be shepherded into the nation´s cinemas in order to watch ´Son of God´, a conventional Hollywood biopic of Jesus Christ that premieres on Thursday. Coming after last year´s HBO mini-series ´The Bible´, which garnered 95 million viewers, it would seem a fair bet that this film is pretty much guaranteed to be another hit. One Texas congregation alone has bought 9,000 tickets.
