´Hitchcock´ a lifeless portrait, critics say
Los Angeles Times, by Oliver Gettell

For all his fame and cinematic brilliance, Alfred Hitchcock remained an enigmatic figure — prolific on the screen, private off it. The new biopic "Hitchcock," starring Anthony Hopkins as the eponymous director and Helen Mirren as wife Alma Reville, attempts to shed some light on the master of suspense by dramatizing the making of his fabled 1960 chiller "Psycho." According to many film critics, however, "Hitchcock" offers more speculation than illumination and fails to bring its subject to life. Times film critic Kenneth Turan writes that despite the film´s "major league star power … this is one cinematic portrait

Looked to me from the previews that they were taking a unique individual with a wicked sense of humor about himself and his business and turning him into a Hollywood cliche of self-indulgence.

Anthony Hopkins is a fine actor.

Anthony Hopkins looks to be a disaster as Alfred Hitchcock. His appearance is wrong, his demeanor is wrong, he is simply wrong.

Since the Plums never go to movies unless it is by the Christian film group in Georgia, I had hoped Hitchcock would be worth seeing. Two stars that are good does not seem to make it a winner tho. sigh.

As someone who has actually seen the movie I would recommend it highly. It´s fun, Hopkins is believable, the story of making the movie fascinating, and the marriage plot worthwhile.

Republicans won a nice victory in the Florida special congressional election yesterday, which the more gullible and/or excitable pundits are already overhyping. But via e-mail today, I received a reminder that Democrats should be rooting for an audience of two to be similarly over-interpreting the results: Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. If the justices previously believed it a safe bet that they would be replaced by mainstream liberal justices when they retire, perhaps now they´ll realize their only reasonable course of action is to retire this spring, pending confirmed replacements. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — More than four days after a Malaysian jetliner went missing en route to Beijing, authorities acknowledged Wednesday they didn´t know which direction the plane carrying 239 passengers was heading when it disappeared, vastly complicating efforts to find it. Amid intensifying confusion and occasionally contradictory statements, the country´s civil aviation authorities and the military both said the plane may have turned back from its last known position between Malaysian and Vietnam, possibly as far as the Strait of Malacca, a busy shipping lane on the western side of Malaysia. A man whose $50,000 coin collection was first stolen, then hocked, cannot recover it from Las Vegas´ famous "Pawn Stars" pawn shop. Reason: The hock shop claims it melted the coins down. According to a criminal complaint filed by the State of Nevada in Clark County Justice Court, a coin collection valued by its owner, David Walters, at up to $50,000, was stolen from Walters´ Las Vegas home in November 2013 by Walters´ niece, Jennifer Beckman. Court documents say Walters´ collection--kept in a bag hidden under a dresser--contained such rarities as a 1903 St. Gaudens $20 gold piece and Silver
