Single mom overcomes odds
to graduate first in her class
from NCCU Law

News Observer [Raleigh,NC], by Thomas L. MacDonald

Original Article

Posted By:Fiesta del sol, 11/23/2012 6:27:38 AM

Tuesday’s ceremony would have been a routine swearing in of a new attorney licensed to practice in North Carolina, except for Sharika Robinson’s long journey against nearly insurmountable odds to get there. Robinson, a 30-year-old single mother of four children, graduated in May, first in her class of 157 students from the North Carolina Central University School of Law. On Tuesday, she was sworn in at the Wake County Courthouse by state Supreme Court Associate Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson, the first African-American woman and the third woman elected to serve on the state’s highest court.

Comments:
Ok, I´m going to be the Grinch and say it. I wonder if her kids are all that happy about it? She has been working and going to school full time, plus finding the time to hook up...so where did she have the time to raise her kids? She is quoted as saying she wasn´t going to get married and let her goals go. Her kids should have been her number one responsibility, yet they were in the way of her goals. This is a sad story to me, not uplifting at all.

One more lawyer to ruin other people´s lives.
One more minion for Satan.
This isn´t a good thing.

Another proud alum of NCCU is crystal Mangum, the prostitute who falsely accused the Duke LaCrosse team players of raping her. (crystal is in prison, for shooting one of her boyfriends.) (I believe in giving credit where credit is due.)

She continued to have kids; thus getting $$$ and all kind of other ´benefits´ from the state. Who paid for this education? To be sure she didn´t.

This is just another example of how these welfare sluts use the system. I am sick of it.

This should be a story of accomplishment but she had a whole support group that pushed her through, including a very strong grandmother and a real father. Not to mention the fact that they raised her children for her, so it´s not like motherhood interfered in any way. I hope the girl is grateful and doesn´t claim too much credit.

She is a liberal, so the childraising is automatically assigned to a variety of other people and institutions. Her living expenses are probably paid for by the government. And her degree probably came the same way the genius in the whitehouse got his....affirmative action and no intelligence.

Maybe if she wanted something different she should have stopped having children by whatever man was handy? Hasn´t she heard of birth control? Or did she need to have those kids so she could get enough welfare to live off of so she could afford college? All the ´odds´ she ´overcame´ she put there herself. I don´t see anything to celebrate in this story.

I guess the message here is that you´re praised to the skies if you make multiple bad choices, burdening your existing children with more and more competition for attention in a fatherless environment, get a handout or burdensome debt, and won´t ever be able to repair the emotional damage to your children.

So, its great that someone willfully shackles themselves with poor choices because why? Oh, I forgot. So that you can handle all the inevitable criminal catastrophes you have given birth to.

Amazing story. Earning a degree in chemistry from a competitive school like NC State University is a major accomplishment. In chemistry, your answer is either right or wrong. No fuzzy math allowed. My hat is off to anyone whose brain works that way.

NCCU law school may not be as competitive as UNC Chapel Hill or Duke, but you don´t practice law in North Carolina without passing the state bar exam. This young woman earned her degrees. Best of luck to her.

Does help to read the article before commenting. Clearly she made some bad choices in high school that resulted in two babies, and compounded this with two more pregnancies in college...yet she still did not resort to cursed abortions or having kids and laying around as an uneducated welfare mom. Reportedely she worked throughout her undergrad and grad years and enjoyed the support of family in helping to raise her kids. Hope her engagement to the father of her first two kids leads to a lasting and successful marriage and a strong family...

You can bet that she got Pell grants or other grants plus subsidized loans that our grandkids will be endentured to the government to pay for. I hope she keeps that in mind and gives some credit (pun intended) to where it is due.

P.S. I don´t recall that it has ever been news when a male military veteran graduated at the top of his class. I refuse to make "single moms" a privileged class, held up as examples for others to follow.

President Obama´s decision last year to allow young people living in the U.S. illegally to stay and work marked the biggest shift in immigration policy in decades, hailed as a landmark step toward the American dream for a generation of immigrants. On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle “o” of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine. While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday.
