Lysistrata Strikes Again
Wall Street Journal, by James Taranto

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 11/22/2012 11:37:52 PM

At The Atlantic´s website, a debate is under way over the college "hookup culture"--the prevalence of casual sex on campus--and whether it is good for women. It began with an argument in the affirmative, in the form of an excerpt in the magazine´s September issue from "The End of Men: And the Rise of Women" by the feminist author Hanna Rosin. "The hookup culture," Rosin writes, is "bound up with everything that´s fabulous about being a young woman in 2012--the freedom, the confidence, the knowledge that you can always depend on yourself."

Comments:
How enlightened Ms. Rosin is. Shades of Sandra Fluke.

No wonder they are ranting about taxpayer-funded contraception and abortion. It´s an essential part of this liberated "feminist" construct. A pregnancy would really put a stick in the bicycle wheel of a feminist´s life... (And someone is confused about how that "dip" works.)

Fortunately the article moves on to a contrary opinion from yet another feminist. Oh, my.

The way girls are getting preggers in high school one wonders how many will be able to avail themselves of an enlightened anything-goes go in college. (What college?)

Just what I want for my daughter. The "power" of cheap sex and being gossipped about by the boys who would use her and throw her aside.

What kind of power is that? I hope my daughter does not allow herself to be used for some boy´s instant gratification. I hope she values herself more than that.

Taranto´s last paragraph is what the article is about. Taranto points out that logically, today´s (purported) feminists need to stigmatize women who give it up too easily. This, of course, is "back to the old days" pre-1960´s. For this teeny bit of wit, he drags the reader through the silliness of Atlantic´s website. Too cute.

Taranto obviously is repulsed by these left wing feminazis. But he´s misguided here. In my experience. A woman wants and needs a man. And a man needs and wants a women. How much simpler can it be? Ignore these unhappy old spinsters.

No, #8 a woman doesn´t need a man, and a man doesn´t need a woman..they may WANT them, but do not need them.
What both men and women need is stability, love and a committment strong enough to keep them together and raise their children.
Trust, fidelity and companionship along with respect.

The word "fabulous" is a dead giveaway -- this is about some kind of "Dear Cosmo" fantasy. But putting that aside, why is casual sex considered evil objectification and exploitation of women when men do it, but a good thing when women do it?

These little golddiggers mainly depend on the American taxpayers, and their freedom is the freedom to pick their fellow Americans´ pockets every time they need an abortion, or sometimes even contraceptives they´ll probably forget to use, or treatment for their inevitable chlamydia, crab lice, hepatitis, papilloma, gonorrhea, HIV, and God only knows what other goodies they´re hellbent on passing around.

FTA:--So today´s would-be Lysistratas need to develop ways of stigmatizing young women who too readily say yes to sex, just as unions do to scabs and strikebreakers. What a feminist triumph that would be.--

Isn´t this the way it has always been (at least until now)? Does the word "slut" ring a bell? Anyone who say "hookup culture" is better for women than men is living in an alternate universe.

WASHINGTON — In the end, the White House solved the most delicate protocol issue of Tuesday’s state dinner for President François Hollande of France in a dignified but creative way. Seated at President Obama’s right under a shimmering white tent on the South Lawn was Thelma Golden, the director of the Studio Museum in Harlem, who 20 years ago mounted a provocative exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art titled “Black Male.” (Snip) To Michelle Obama’s left was Stephen Colbert, the comedian and television host, whose connection to France consists largely in his determination to pronounce his surname as

Powerful winds in the Pacific Ocean, which have driven surface heat deep underwater, could be the reason behind the current ‘pause’ in global warming. This is according to a joint Australian and U.S. study which has looked at why there has been a slowdown in the planet’s global average surface temperature over the past decade. Their research shows that trade winds in central and eastern parts of the Pacific have caused warm surface water to sink to the ocean´s depths, reducing the amount of heat in the atmosphere.
