| Forget about the settlement approved by the county this week that sends $3.25 million to the family of a woman who died in one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio´s jails, the Sheriff is more concerned with bitching about the extra nickel it´s going to cost to feed the inmates tomorrow. The latest press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office is a bit apologetic in tone, because the cost of the Thanksgiving meal for the inmates this year is five cents more per meal than the crap the inmates eat every other day. I am sorry, but he shouldn´t be making a big deal about a lousy 5 cents extra cost per meal. That is just stupid. He agrees that the inmates should be able to have a Thanksgiving meal, so why is he apologizing for the cost?? So much money is often wasted elsewhere...it just make Arpaio look bad when he makes a big deal over nothing.

Green baloney can be dressed up to look almost like turkey.
Turkey´s a relatively cheap meat, though. If Arpaio´s worried about the cost, he can have his staff research suppliers and maybe save a little money.

The Phoenix New Times is a free, weekly Phoenix, Arizona newspaper, put out every Thursday. It is the founding publication of the New Times Media (now Village Voice Media), but The Village Voice is now the flagship publication of that company.
The paper was founded in 1970 by a group of students at Arizona State University, led by Frank Fiore, Karen Lofgren, Michael Lacey, Bruce Stasium, Nick Stupey, Gayle Pyfrom, Hal Smith, and later, Jim Larkin as a counterculture response to the Kent State shootings in the spring of that year. Gary Brennan played a role in its creation. According to the 20th Anniversary issue of the New Times, published on May 2, 1990, Fiore suggested that the anti-war crowd put out its own paper. The first summer issues were called the Arizona Times and assembled in the staff´s La Crescenta apartments across from ASU. The Arizona Times was renamed the New Times as the first college issue went to press in September 1970.

So, the reporter seems to think jail should be more like Club Med than an incarceration institution for law breakers? If they want a fine T-giving meal, they should do all they can, like most of us, to avoid breaking the law and ending up in jail! Desiring to get fine T-giving meals is not why people go to jail.
As for the crazy that died in jail and family got the 3.5 settlement - Arpaio had nothing what-so-ever to do with that settlement and more than likely, the settlement is not settled- it is in negotiation! They never get what is awarded- the two parties enter negotiation to reach something more practical- (I have seen 6 million settled down to fifty grand!)

If you take the tour of Alcatraz, you find out that the convicts were entitled to food that met Bureau of Prisons standards: nutritious, and attractively presented. Alcatraz housed the worst of the worst. Why should a jail, which holds some prisoners who have not yet even been convicted of a crime, treat its prisoners worse than Alcatraz?

If Thanksgiving dinners only cost 5 cents more than baloney sandwiches,then why not serve them everyday? How much more is a roast beef dinner,10 cents more.
If these people weren´t some variety of criminal they could be on the streets eating what they want. They have no reason to bit*h if they´re lawbreakers.
No more than welfare recipients complaining about a $1.30 a day on food stamps.I check food stamp carts all the time. Most of the time I see 6-8 bottles of soda in there.If they´re buying soda instead of food,that´s their tough luck.Fat laden sausages are another fav of the food stampers.Why isn´t this kind of stuff banned if they´re concerned about obesity?

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — State Police blocked the access road to the aqueduct just before noon as members of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), along with detectives from the State Police and Framingham Police Department, began investigating the scene. MWRA spokesperson Ria Convery said the cut locks were discovered this morning and that the hatches could not have been unlocked for long because the MWRA conducts regular checks at the aqueduct. Convery would not speak to the frequency of the checks because of terrorism concerns.

Office supplier Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) is being more aggressive than its executives originally planned in its effort to trim the number of stores it has in North America this year. The Framingham-based company reported last week that it is on target for a net reduction of 40 stores in 2013, compared with the earlier projection of 30 stores that the retailer provided last fall. Lt. Gov. Tim Murray will resign from the his post at the State House Wednesday, WBZ’s Jon Keller has learned. Sources tell WBZ-TV’s Karen Anderson that Murray will accept a position as the head of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, making over $200,000 per year. The chamber has a vote scheduled at noon to make it official. Murray is then expected to speak at the State House Wednesday afternoon. ‘Sources close to Murray tell WBZ-TV Murray is poised to leave his office as early as today,” Keller said.

BOSTON —U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is calling on Congress to stop student loan interest rates from doubling this summer.The Massachusetts Democrat introduced a bill Tuesday which would let students pay the same interest rate on their government loans as banks. Student loan interest rates are set to jump from 3.4 to 6.8 percent in July. Warren said banks can borrow from the Federal Reserve at an interest rate of less than 1 percent.

Times reports. A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families. Senator Barbara Boxer celebrated the rekindling of talks about gun-control legislation after a shooting at Santa Monica College last Friday. “Every single time something like this happens, I think this does give us wind at our back,” Boxer said on MSNBC over the weekend. On Friday, a gunman opened fire on the school’s campus in the state of California, killing six people, including the gunman. WASHINGTON — A State Department whistleblower has accused high-ranking staff of a massive coverup — including keeping a lid on findings that members of then-Secretary Hillary Clinton’s security detail and the Belgian ambassador solicited prostitutes. A chief investigator for the agency’s inspector general wrote a memo outlining eight cases that were derailed by senior officials, including one instance of interference by Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills. Any mention of the cases was removed from an IG report about problems within the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), which provides protection and investigates crimes involving any State Department workers overseas.

In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.
