Argentine court convicts
UNC-CH physics professor
of drug smuggling

News Observer [Raleigh,NC], by Jay Price

The 68-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill physics professor arrested in Argentina early this year after being caught with more than 4 pounds of cocaine hidden in a suitcase has been convicted by an Argentine court. Paul Frampton, the Oxford-educated Louis D. Rubin Jr. Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, told investigators he was duped into unknowingly carrying the drugs after being lured first to Bolivia with a promise of meeting a famous bikini model. He was sentenced to four years and eight months of confinement Monday afternoon after three days of hearings.

Comments:
And the icing on the cake is 70 professors filed a complaint b/c he hasn´t been receiving pay while in an Argentine jail...they were worried about his tenure!

Raj, Sheldon and Leonard, of the Big Bang Theory, would be disappointed in Dr. Frampton.
The bib bang theory is remarkably drug free, as compared to other tv shows starring young people and their lifestyles. Although Penny drinks to excess, and I suspect might smoke some pot, and Raj needs alcohol in order to overcome his anxiety in talking to women, it is a drug free show..
Separate from that, the Duke liberal arts faculty condemned the duke lacrosse team based on the false allegations of a prostitute, crystal mangum. And even after her charges were proven false, the faculty still condemned the lacrosse team.

Having followed this story from the beginning, I am pretty sure that this idiot was indeed lured by the hopes of ´interacting´ with the bikini queen. He was instead used as an unwitting mule for the cocaine smugglers. If he were to return to teaching he would do so as a laughing stock.

Time to retire anyway. And he gets to do so in an exotic foreign country.

When a lobbyist for families of Newtown shooting victims called the office of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) to set up a meeting, the first response was a standard D.C. offer. They could get a meeting with her staff, and a quick and simple “hello” from Collins herself, they were told. The families’ answer: not good enough. According to their lobbyists, the families have a rule against staff-only meetings: They won’t do them. They insist on sitting down with the senators themselves.

Fig leaves wilting! It looks like the requirement that the Border Patrol catch 90% of illegal crossers–reported by the WSJ and touted by both Marco Rubio’s chief of staff and my colleague Matt Lewis as an example of the “ tough border enforcement measures” in the Gang of 8 immigration amnesty bill–has turned out to be evanescent, like so many of the other promises amnesty boosters have pitched to conservatives. Of course, the 90% “trigger” was never a barrier to legalization–illegal immigrants will get that more or less immediately under the Gang bill,

President Obama´s decision last year to allow young people living in the U.S. illegally to stay and work marked the biggest shift in immigration policy in decades, hailed as a landmark step toward the American dream for a generation of immigrants. But months later, many immigrants are having vastly different reactions to the change depending on where they live, and they aren´t flocking to the program at the levels the government originally expected. A handful of Republican-led states are blocking basic benefits for those in the program, denying beneficiaries identification cards, driver´s licenses,

On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle “o” of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine. While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday. Chavez co-founded the organization now known as the United Farm Workers union (UFW). He became an iconic figure in the labor movement, with his stature only increasing since his death

As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office.
