Illinois has gerrymandered the districts in such a way that every Republican seat won in 2010 was taken back by the Democrats in 2012. There are cases where far away Republican suburbs are connected by a thin line drawn for miles so that it connects into the city, where Democrats dominate. Jesse´s district is probably like that.
