Obama will be visiting a
more open and hopeful Burma

USA Today, by Calum MacLeod

Original Article

RANGOON, Burma — From businessmen chasing new markets to basketball players serving as sports envoys, the past year has seen an unprecedented wave of American visitors to the once-pariah state of Burma. On Monday, President Obama arrived. "This is not an endorsement of the Burmese government," Obama said Sunday in Bangkok, the first stop on a three-nation tour that also takes him to Cambodia Monday night. "This is an acknowledgment that there is a process underway inside that country that even a year and a half, two years ago, nobody foresaw," he said.

Comments:
This has a photo of the mural that greeted him. (Creepy-looking).

We´re going over the cliff... and he´s in Burma/Myanmar?

I didn´t realize that our future was dependent on what happens in Myanmar.

Doesn´t the President of the United States have more important things to do?

Guess not. He can always vote "present" or "not present."

Interesting that Obama should visit Burma/Myanmer...I just read that "this place is rated as the most oppressive regime in the world...their military regime governs by arresting and imprisoning political dissidents. The country is ruled by decree, it controls all executive, legislative, and judicial powers, suppresses nearly all basic rights, and commits human rights abuses with impunity. Maybe our illustrious leader is there to pick up a few pointers as to how thats done and get away with it with impunity..." Wonder why he didn´t go to the Congo instead, lots more action there...

Why doesn´t this loser plant himself in Washington and start working with Congress on the horrible economic situation he put us in instead of visiting two bit meaningless countries that don´t matter to anyone who is not from there. He just continues to prove every day that American voters are morons.

I am grateful for Burmese rubies, the most beautiful and rarest in the world due to import bans from this country. Also the most costly, for the same reason. Such a silly thing, but wanted one all my life, as ruby is my birthstone.

Don´t think it took an in person trip to lift trade embargoes, however.

It was officially billed as a speech to promote raising the minimum wage, but President Obama´s trip to the University of Michigan Wednesday had all the hallmarks of a campaign pitch - one that the nation will likely hear several more times as the midterm elections approach. There was a laundry list of achievements (economic recovery, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, signing 7.1 million people up for health care), a recitation of the rest of the Democratic agenda (paycheck fairness, expanding college affordability) and a nod to the local restaurant (Zingerman´s Deli, an Ann Arbor institution) where the

The Tonight Show will have a special guest on tonight’s show: Sarah Palin. The show’s Twitter account made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, saying the former Alaska governor will be stopping by the show to “do something fun” with host Jimmy Fallon.(Tweet) The scheduled guests for Wednesday night’s show are Denis Leary, Cat Deeley along with musical guest Nickel Creek. It appears unlikely that Palin will sit down with Fallon for an interview, but perhaps will join him for some type of sketch to promote her new reality series Amazing America, which premieres tomorrow night on the Sportsman Channel.

CNN has taken a lot of heat–and rightly so!–for its obsessive reporting on missing flight MH370, which has often come at the detriment of more pressing or substantive stories. But no less ridiculous is Fox News’ #Benghazi fixation, which was in full fever Wednesday morning as the network devoted three hours and thirty-eight minutes of continual coverage of a Benghazi congressional hearing. Benghazi has long been Fox’s fallback, less a news story than a sort of epistemological wound that can never close simply because conservatives refuse to accept conclusions about the events of September 11, 2012 that don’t conform to

According to Santelli, the media, “whether press, TV or whatever it is,” aren’t focusing enough on presenting hard data. “I don’t care how many people visit a website. I want to know how many people, you know, have lost, how many people have gained, the intersection, how many people have paid, you know, kind of an analytical, quantitative approach.” [See video below.] Santelli argued that this was due to the media accepting data from third party sources as settled science. “Seven million, it’s settled.

When asked why President Obama chose to travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., (Go Blue!) to give a speech on the minimum wage Wednesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney responded, "We love Michigan, everybody here." But there´s more to it than that. Obama wants to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour by 2016. Congressional Democrats support the proposal, Republicans -- wait for it -- do not. As in many other states nationwide, there´s a push in Michigan to raise the minimum wage. A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. Now, as if by magic, they have their number. Somehow. All along, the administration has touted false numbers of enrollees. All along, the administration has neglected to admit that Obamacare is

A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.
