Max Boot has trouble making sense anymore, he should certainly know better than to equate Iron Dome and Reagan´s Star Wars.

The ABM systems we´ve deployed and are deploying are oriented to catching a couple of relatively low tech random shots from North Korea or Iran, not a barrage of high tech from Russia/USSR - or even China. We´re also 30 years further along in technology. And it´s unclear how the system would work in practice, especially if it had to intercept more than a single shot at a time.

Iron Dome is a technology success, and it helps Israel (or the US) to parry some low-tech attacks and ignore them, mostly, and it´s worth some money for that capability. But by that some token it´s almost as much a political success as a strategic success.

Say what you will, #2, but the naysayers said NONE of this would ever work.

All that is left, really, is the engineering. You have multiple incoming? You have multiple responding units. It can all be done. All that is left is to figure out how.

America used to have that spirit in spades. I´m glad to see that some folks still do.

The left is critical of any offensive weapons. Nukes and MAD - mutually assured destruction - is a horrifying necessity when offensive weapons far outstrip defensive weapons. Why is it not a good idea to tip the balance back by having an effective defense against missiles? It can be done and so it should be done to give options in war short of using the most destructive offensive weapons. The left is consistent by frowning on non lethal methods of self defence such as pepper spray. Why should´t old people carry pepper spray to disable rather than kill a younger attacker. When the left rejects defensive weapons they discredit themselves. They are not just passive, they favour defeat for the west and domination by criminals over their victims! That is why Obama having "flexibility" after his re-election can be expected to dismantle the US nuclear arsenal as well as the missile defences developed since the time of Reagan.

Libs are also too stupid to realize an incoming nuke would target a large population center to cause massive human causalities and infrastructure damage not to mention killing off their voters.

The Democrats were against Reagans missile defense because it would keep America from being destroyed,so the Democrats gave us Obama in order to destroy America from within...

What I know is absolutely true, and all of you know it as well. Those of us with a mathematical and scientific backgroud were always taught that there are no absolutes in nature. No matter what the generalization or how hard the observations and data, it never failed, there would always be a few exceptions to the hypothesis. Well, I can honestly say that over the years I´ve actually isolated at least one generalization that is true, without exception. Liberals are ALWAYS wrong about EVERYTHING. All the time.

obama has cancelled OUR missile defense and did so as soon as he took office.

But, it´s just not FAIR!

#2 hits it. Iron Dome is not at all like SDI. It is impressive but it proves nothing about Reagan´s vision.

RR´s life needs no defense, it speaks for itself.

The Iron Dome defense is a necessary and good achievement by Israel. It´s not a system that is a defense against ICBM-like missiles. However, the US has done test-interceptions with two systems, the purpose-designed missile, and the SM-3 development of the vertically-launched missiles carried by our DDGs and CGs.

Those are the real thing.
