A deal to avoid the “fiscal cliff” should include entitlement reforms as well as new revenues — but not higher tax rates — Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said in the GOP’s weekly address. Republicans have warmed to the idea of new revenues since President Obama’s reelection, but lawmakers are still divided over whether to raise tax rates on the wealthy or find money elsewhere. “Tax reform that eliminates wasteful tax preferences to generate revenue will help bring fairness and efficiency to our tax system. This approach makes more sense than raising tax rates—which will harm
They are mentally ill also known as libtards (communists, socialists, fascists, stalinists, marxists, democrats, and so on). Attempting to sort out any reason or logic in their actions is an exercise in futility. They mostly present the same symptoms that those with borderline personality disorder (presenting fragile personality behaviors) show - in a nutshell, reality is in their heads, so whatever they believe reality is determines how they act. we lack the resources to cure them And they will not quit while they exist. They cannot be negotiated with, reasoned with or trusted to keep their promise or word. They are domestic and foreign enemies of the constitution, and as such are most useful as fertilizer.
I still think that closing tax loopholes is the way to go, and I still think that is not an option because Obama´s rich supporters like entertainers and tech leaders make the biggest use of such loopholes. I doubt if the "average" person making over 250K to, say 1 million, take much if any advantage of the more esoteric loopholes.
It doesn´t matter. Like all other "tax reform" bills, they´ll load the pork and real loopholes when it gets to conference committee, while giving lip service to the loopholes (the term Dems misleadingly use as a substitute for the word "deductions") they closed. Same old garbage in a newer package. If they want new revenues, get rid of every refundable tax credit.
Even 0bama admits higher tax rates means lower total revenues!! He knows and doesn´t care! He thinks superficial "fairness" is more important, and he has to lie about that, too. He compares capital gains (which is what retirees get from their 401K and IRA accounts) to simple worker income tax, knowing that the top 1% can choose to shift their compensation from "income" to "dividends."
He said as much in the pre-convention 2008 debate with Hillary as posted on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJimLZRC9N8
OFF THE COAST OF EASTERN SAMAR, The Philippines -The crew of the USS George Washington cut their shore leave short in Hong Kong to steam towards the Philippines when the extent of the damage wreaked by Typhoon Haiyan became clear. Since the ship arrived at the island last week, the aircraft carrier’s crew of 5,000 – residents of a decent-sized town as tall as a 24-story building – have been supporting relief operations here. The ship is powered by two nuclear reactors, which means that it can steam for 20 years before it needs to refuel. When it’s under way,
Kristin Barkiw of Rossburn, Manitoba, Canada brought two of her children home from Little Cub’s Den daycare when she saw that her kids were sent home with a note. As reported by CTV, the message told the mom she had failed to provide a nutritionally balanced lunch for her children, 5-year-old Logan and 3-year-old Natalie. Not only that, Kristin was fined $10, $5 per child, for missing grains in their lunch of leftover roast beef, carrots, potatoes, an orange and milk. Further, the note said that the daycare staff gave Logan and Natalie Ritz crackers to fulfill the nutritional requirement
Activists said that illegal immigrants were arrested while protesting outside of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office on Wednesday in the latest escalation of civil disobedience designed to pressure Congress to legalize them. In the morning, hundreds of immigrant-rights activists staged a vigil outside of House Speaker John A. Boehner’s home in Washington, setting up a Thanksgiving dinner table which they said highlighted illegal immigrants who are being deported and won’t be with their families during the holiday this year. After the vigil, activists went to the Capitol complex where 11 of them — some U.S. citizens and some so-called
In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon for the Sirius XM Patriots network, Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker said he does not support amnesty and the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake, who previously reported Walker supports a “pathway to citizenship” for illegal immigrants took him “out of context.” Towards the end of the interview, Bannon noted that “Amnesty is about the sovereignty of the country.” But, he asked Walker, “the Washington Post said earlier that you’re pro-pathway to citizenship.” “See now that’s where they take it out of context,” Walker said in response. “I’ve not said
Taxpayers will be happy to know they not only fund abortions under the Affordable Care Act, they also help prostitutes stay healthy. Prior to Obamacare, brothel workers at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Nevada said they were unable to find coverage under their profession. Prostitute “Caressa Kisses” explained to WOAI NBC News: “They equate us to illegal working girls who have very high STDS and AIDS rates. Which we have none of the above, we’re legal, licensed prostitutes. (Snip) We’re independent contractors, so we have to get our own insurance. So this is truly a blessing. We really hope that
Nearly 50 years after an assassin killed President John F. Kennedy, his daughter was triumphantly received as America’s ambassador to Japan in the country that made her dad a hero. Caroline Kennedy arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo Tuesday in an ornate, horse-drawn carriage — befitting the Princess of Camelot’s role as American royalty — to present her credentials to Emperor Akihito. Meanwhile, back at home, images of her standing stoically at her father’s funeral were being replayed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death this week.
According to a new CBS News Poll, President Obama´s approval rating has nosedived into the mid-30s, surely setting off a panic at the White House. President Barack Obama´s job approval rating has plunged to the lowest of his presidency. 37% now approve of the job he is doing as president, down from 46% in October -- a nine point drop in just a month. Mr. Obama´s disapproval rating is 57% -- the highest level for this president in CBS News Polls. [Chart] The failed implementation of Obamacare and the continuing loss of health insurance seems to be doing the most
At least three nearby hospitals had available beds the day before the son of Virginia state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds apparently stabbed his father and then shot himself to death, officials confirmed Wednesday. Deeds’s condition was upgraded to good at a Charlottesville hospital as state mental-health officials continued to search for an explanation of what happened. Austin Deeds, who was 24, had undergone a psychiatric evaluation on Monday, but several officials said he was not admitted to a hospital because no bed was available. It remained unclear Wednesday which hospitals were called and why Austin Deeds was not taken to
Controversy continues to rage about President Obama´s announcement at a Nov. 14 press conference that his administration would not compel insurance companies to cancel policies they had changed since passage of the Affordable Care Act and which did not conform to its numerous, costly, and multi-layered requirements. Much of the controversy concerns the propriety of the president’s declining to enforce a duly enacted law (bearing his signature) whose constitutionality he does not doubt, and whether insurance companies will be able to abruptly change course after three years of preparing to comply with their elaborate and interwoven legal obligations under Obamacare. But
Several dozen suspected terrorist bombmakers, including some believed to have targeted American troops, may have mistakenly been allowed to move to the United States as war refugees, according to FBI agents investigating the remnants of roadside bombs recovered from Iraq and Afghanistan. The discovery in 2009 of two al Qaeda-Iraq terrorists living as refugees in Bowling Green, Kentucky -- who later admitted in court that they´d attacked U.S. soldiers in Iraq -- prompted the bureau to assign hundreds of specialists to an around-the-clock effort aimed at checking its archive of 100,000 improvised explosive devices collected in the war zones, known
Tribune Co. announced a restructuring of its publishing business Wednesday that will redeploy resources to focus on its digital business and operate more efficiently, resulting in nearly 700 job losses across the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and six other daily newspapers. The plan, which was outlined for Tribune Co. employees in a memo, seeks to integrate business units such as advertising, marketing, manufacturing and digital media under common leadership. It is aimed at offsetting annual publishing revenue declines of $75 million to $100 million, without diminishing editorial content, according to executives. But publishing staff positions, accounting for about 6
One Hawaii state legislator has what he thinks is a smashing idea for dealing with the state’s homeless population. State Rep. Tom Brower, a five-term Democrat representing Waikiki and Ala Moana, is walking around with a sledgehammer in his spare time so he can destroy abandoned shopping carts that may be used by the homeless in an effort to dissuade theft, Hawaii News Now reports. “I got tired of telling people I’m trying to pass laws,” Brower told the outlet. “I want to do something practical that will really clean up the streets.” Brower said he returns shopping carts in
President Barack Obama told the Wall Street CEO Council Tuesday that his administration has "reined in spending" and "cut our deficits by more than half." "After years of trillion-dollar deficits we reined in spending, wound down two wars and began to change a tax code that I believe was too skewed towards the wealthiest among us at the expense of the middle class," said Obama. "And since I took office, we have now cut our deficits by more than half. Add it all and businesses like yours have created 7.8 million new jobs over the past 44 months, we´ve gone farther
Negligence? Absolutely. Incompetence? The case can be made. But scandalous? To suggest that the White House has willfully engaged in the intentional misleading of the public and an outrageous dereliction of its responsibilities to enforce the laws passed by Congress has been a bridge too far. Until recently. New revelations are now forcing even the most reluctant of President Barack Obama’s critics to concede that the Affordable Care Act’s implementation has evolved into a scandal. “I was not informed directly that the website would not be working, as the way it was supposed to,” Obama told reporters on November 14.
Barack Obama is the coolest president we’ve had since John F. Kennedy, at least according to conventional standards for such things. Obama has always been a brand as much as a politician, one that has been perceived as sleek, smart, and up to date. Then along came HealthCare.gov. Its failure to launch is a signal event in the long political battle over Obamacare and perhaps an inflection point in the president’s image. It’s hard to maintain a sense of truly being on the cutting edge of change when you can’t build a website. Obama’s cool was, in part, an artifact of world-class
MICHELLE OBAMA: I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician when I was really little and then I wasn´t that great at math and science so I switched to law because my mother told me that I like to argue a lot. But I realized in high school and in college that you don´t have to exactly know, you´re kind of always discovering yourself. So I studied law, I went to law to school, but was pretty clear I just wanted to be a good student. I wanted to know how to read and write and communicate, be able to
In an interview on BET last night with Bow Wow and Keshia Chante, First Lady Michelle Obama talked up her husband, President Barack Obama. "I always say my husband has got swag," said Mrs. Obama. "He’s got a little swag." The audience applauded. Mrs. Obama also said that the president of the United States "sings all the time." She continued, "Oh, yes, he’s in the bathroom all the time just singing." She also praised her husband. "[H]e has got a good voice." Here´s a transcript of that exchange:
Well folks, it looks like Arizona Senator John McCain will "be one of these old guys that should’ve shoved off.” According to the Arizona Republic, McCain is set to attend a glitzy fundraising for his 2016 campaign in New York City. Sen. John McCain has scheduled a December fundraiser in New York City, the surest sign yet that the veteran Arizona Republican is serious about possibly pursuing a sixth term in 2016. According to a copy of the invitation obtained Tuesday by The Arizona Republic, McCain is asking supporters to join him 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at the midtown St. Regis Hotel
A downbeat President Barack Obama repeatedly asked his worried supporters Monday night to help resurrect his spirits, following weeks of political disasters and personal humiliations caused by the cascading collapse of Obamacare. The distracted president railed against opponents and at one point appeared to forget the number of people in the Obamacare system during the rambling quarter-hour address. “My main message is I’m going to need your help, your energy, your faith, your ability to reach out to neighbors, kids and friends [and] co-workers,” he told listeners to the Internet broadcast arranged by his grass-roots group, Organizing for Action. But his worried
WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama says she won’t wear shorts on Air Force One again because the one time she did, it created “a huge stink.”(snip)Mrs. Obama was asked about her biggest fashion regret. She said she’s always happy with her outfits but that, quote, “sometimes I forget I’m the first lady and I’m running around in shorts.” She recalled her family’s first White House vacation, to the Grand Canyon in August 2009. Mrs. Obama said her wearing shorts getting off the plane “created a huge stink because people were like, ‘she’s wearing shorts getting off of Air Force One.’” She said her thought
On Tuesday, President Barack Obama conceded that he will have to "remarket" and "rebrand" Obamacare as public confidence in him and the healthcare law he championed has plummeted. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit, Obama addressed the failures of the Obamacare rollout and said while he was confident that the healthcare model his administration built, which he claimed worked off of the "existing private insurance system," would succeed, the law would have to be rebranded. “We are going to have to obviously remarket and rebrand,” Obama said. “And that will be challenging in this political environment.” When he
President Barack Obama told a gathering of corporate executives Tuesday he´s confident that his model of health care will work in the end, but he said he´s going to have to "re-brand" it to sell it to a skeptical public. He didn´t use the word "Obamacare" once on Tuesday in talking about his health care law, but he mentioned the "Affordable Care Act" seven times. "So, look, I am confident that the model that we built, which works off of the existing private insurance system, is one that will succeed," Obama told the Wall Street Journal´s CEO Council Annual Meeting
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) says everyone should stop talking so much about the 2016 presidential race, because doing so hurts President Obama, who´s only a year into his second term. "In this sense, I feel badly for President Obama. He just won a year ago, and everybody´s like, ´So, who´s next?´" Christie said Monday night at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. "There is work to be done in this country. And as we shove him out the door, we minimize his ability to be an effective executive. And we shouldn´t do that." Even as he urged people to focus
The White House has admitted that it was wrong to promise that people would be able to their health care plans under Obamacare. "With respect to the pledge I made that if you like your plan you can keep it, I think -- you know, and I’ve said in interviews -- that there is no doubt that the way I put that forward unequivocally ended up not being accurate. It was not because of my intention not to deliver on that commitment and that promise. We put a grandfather clause into the law but it was insufficient," President Obama said
