| Republicans are seeking to oust Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), who is up for his first reelection after his narrow 2008 win. Franken will be a tough candidate — he’s worked hard to ingratiate himself in the state, and his poll numbers look fairly solid. But Republicans hope with the right candidate they can topple the first-term senator. Reps. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.) and John Kline (R-Minn.) are two early mentions for the race. “I´d put Congressmen Paulsen and Kline at the top of the list, they´d both be very strong candidates,” said Brian McClung,

These people just voted for Obama´s re-election,why would they look at Franken any differently? People are programmed to vote for the (D) after a person´s name,no matter how big a buffoon they are.
I don´t know the demographics of Minn. and it puzzles me why they´re such a liberal state in the midwest.
I guess there could be a huge backlash against Obamacare once it kicks in and people would finally wake up but I´m not counting on it.

A party that is headed by people completely out of touch and/or hostile to their grassroots is a heaven sent gift for Liberals. We gave it to them five of the last six national elections. Charlie Brown and Lucie are less repetitive. If that problem is solved all these secondaries will fall like dominoes.

I would think that the people of Minn. had better sense than that. Al is a clown. Common sense has died in this country. The democRATS have found a way to appeal to the dumb side of the voters. As long as we have a gimme society, idiots like frankin will win.

MN allowed about a thousand convicted felons to vote, which is against MN law. Franken won by about one thousand votes. How many of those felons voted for Ron Coleman? (Are you kidding me?) #2 has a good point. Once the bill for Obamacare comes due, and middle class Minnesotans are paying for it, they might be in the throw-the-dems-out mood.

Where do you think the many busloads of non-English speaking Somalis that voted for Obama in Ohio and Pennsylvania originated? there are about 100,000 of them in Minneapolis. Enough Somalis so the recruitment for Al Qaeda is solid. Minnesota has same-day voter registration, and we just defeated an amendment which would have instituted a Voter ID requirement. And it was Norm Coleman, favorite of Bush, who was cheated by Franken and the DFL. Pawlenty did nothing to aid and abet. The marxist Soros-hired Secretary of State Mark Ritchie was the arbiter of Franken´s ´election´.

The Democrats stole this seat and if necessary will steal it again. However, this is highly unlikely or necessary now that the looters, moochers and socialists seem to nationally have the upper hand. Traditional America may have actually ceased to exist on November 6, 2012.

If no election in this country is honest, then we are truly "over" as a Republic. Just remember to keep pinning the blame on the Demonrat party for the demise. It is high time they shoulder the blame for the destruction. Small comfort when the country has been destroyed.

The "bright" side is, after four more years of Obama, it´s not going to matter much.

Franken stole his last election with votes that were found in trunks of the democrats cars and in democrats closet. It was close, but they found enough votes to get this clown elected. Until we have some real way to control fraud, the democrats will keep stealing the elections, and so far the Republicans keep letting them do it. Boehner has to go; he is worthless.

The democrats targeted Michele Bachmann(R), but she managed to hold on and win with no thanks to the RNC, which gave no money to her campaign. I lived in Minnesota for a few years, and they are very receptive to the socialist viewpoint. I got the impression that most of them are very happy to have the government tell them what´s best for them, and pay up the wazoo for the privilege.

As it will an off-presidential election the Dem GOTV machine won´t be as active. There is a sizable difference in the demographics who show up for off-vs. on-presidential election years. The GOP typically pulls a sizable majority popular vote. Minorities are not going to stand in lines to vote for some white boy unless pushed really hard.

Don´t forget the third party in Minnesota plus a Republican party that has been badly split for the last 20 some years. The Independence party and the RINOs both claim to be fiscally conservative. When given the option of a spendthrift dissolute Democrat and a fiscally conservative candidate who is also socially conservative they will always opt for the Democrat.

To many in our cultural elite, Woody Guthrie is an American saint. The legendary songwriter from Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, is introduced to every American child by way of his folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land.” But for gatekeepers of the arts, Guthrie is much more: All of his work—every song, every article, every poem—is good and honest and true, the gospel according to Woody. What other justification is there for the release of this deservedly long-lost novel? Completed in 1947 but only recently “rediscovered,” House of Earth is an incoherent polemic interspersed with erotic scenes and rambling descriptions

At the same time the Senate has cut a deal on gun control by, er, making the status quo slightly more muscular, the Gang of Eight has reached a deal in principle on immigration. ‘Comprehensive immigration reform,” a deal on which is reportedly imminent, has a lot of moving parts — too many, in truth, as with most “comprehensive” legislation. Among the costs of comprehensivism is that debate over such bills often gets bogged down in the many details. Americans seeking to evaluate any deal should ask three questions about it to cut through the noise. First: Will it encourage future illegal immigration? This has always been the greatest risk of proposals to provide legal status for current illegal immigrants: that it will be seen as a reason for others to come here illegally

Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea. “We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide. Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn´t share the United States worldview. One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.” “It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill

How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. That brings the three-year total of potential savings documented by GAO to $295 billion. Having three agencies doing catfish safety inspections may strike some as funny, but there is nothing to laugh about

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"
