| A new White House petition wants President Obama to nationalize the "Twinkie industry," saving the popular junk food from possible extinction. "We the undersigned, hereby request Barack Obama to immediately Nationalize the Twinkie industry and prevent our nation from losing her sweet creamy center," a petition on the White House "We the People" website requests. (Snip) Hostess Brands Inc. — maker of the Twinkie, the Ding Dong and Wonder Bread — is preparing to shutter operations amid a labor strike and rising costs. Unionized workers rejected a major pay and benefit cut, sparking the latest strike.

Comments: Is that King 0bama?? With insanity like this our nation is in far worse shape than I could ever imagine. You couldn´t make this up if you had to. I just caught the end of Rush today and wondered what he meant when he said Politico already had their headline ready: Obama Saves Twinkies

If I´m not mistaken petition came from the White House to the White House! They want to do the same to Hostess that they did to GM. Use our money to buy the company then give it the unions. What a farce this country has become.

What will Michelle say? Maybe she can change the recipe to make it sugar free, fat free, and be filled with spinach instead of cream. Then Obama can mandate that everybody buy one every day, and the Supreme Court will say it´s a tax.

It was going North so was perhaps taking exotic foodstuffs to Michelle Antoinette. The name could have been something like Citizens United but I really didn´t catch enough of it.

Gee and I posted the nationalization bit without knowing this petition had been sent. Actually Hostess should close down change their name and reconstruct in a non union state. There are 18 states who would welcome them. There are 30 states with GOP governors and any who are still unionized should eliminate them.

As with the auto bailout this is really a union bailout. Pump enough public money in while screwing the present investors, give the company to the unions and claim victory. A month later announce that the company has paid the treasury back. This lie is sustained by the hack media and Obama it the hero. Michelle changes the twinkies into a health food which nobody eats. Each twinkie costs $100.oo but there is a public subsidy of $99.95 to purchase them. A totally phoney market is created for twinkies to funnel public money into the unions, the media hide this and Obama voters marvel at Obama´s genius for saving bankrupt companies.

It could be done just like GM. Take over the company to save the workers´ jobs. But Twinkies aren´t healthy, so change the recipe. Make them multi-grain and fill them with unsweetened tofu. Then order massive amounts for MREs, government agency cafeterias, and school cafeterias—because no one else will buy them.

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
