Rep. Lungren loses reelection bid
The Hill [Washington DC], by Cameron Joseph

Democrat Ami Bera has defeated Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) in one of the closest House races of the cycle. Bera and Lungren finished within a few hundred votes of one another on election night, but Bera´s lead has grown in recent days as mail-in and provisional ballots were counted. He leads Lungren by slightly fewer than 4,000 votes with some ballots still left to be counted. The Associated Press called the race for Bera late Thursday evening. The contest was a rematch between the two: Bera narrowly lost to Lungren in 2010, surprising observers with a better-than-expected performance

Gee, another extended vote count loss for Republicans. There is another one in an Arizona disctict ("gabby´s seat"). The GOP candidate led by 1300 votes on election day. Guess what, the extended count now shows the democrat ahead by 700 votes and they are still counting. Election systems are hopelessly corrupt. Until it´s fixed, we´ve got nothing.

Maybe the RNC can spend of that extra cash they were bragging about and go in to these districts and do the work to uncover the fraud.

They have nobody stopping them. A very astute L.dotter this week said something that I can´t seem to forget. He said we may be in the midst of a communist coup (or something to that effect) and not even be aware of it. Please excuse me that I can´t give proper credit. Anyway, this unending vote counting in more and more states always turn out to the Democrat advantage..

To be fair, the vote counts in Arizona still aren´t finished. As of last Friday, there will still over 25% of the ballots to be counted.

That said, I agree that the counting needs to be done differently. I think that no totals should be reported until all votes are counted. There is a consistent pattern of the democrat coming from behind and squeaking by with just a few votes. Enough is enough.

A final disappointment in the disastrous 2012 election. This race to me illustrated the party´s impotence. Bera got tons of outside money for an unrelenting smear campaign. The party knew this was a close one, where were they? The Democrats are so far superior to the GOP when it comes to picking off selected opponents.

The owner of a dump truck company who secured $3 million in city contracts was sentenced to 17 months in prison Thursday after he was convicted of acting as a minority “pass through” for another company that once had links to relatives of former Mayor Richard Daley. Jesse Brunt, 77, of Chicago, pleaded guilty in 2012 to a federal mail fraud charge for falsely reporting to the city of Chicago that his minority-owned business would do most of the sewer work on a city contract when in fact it didn’t. U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur also ordered Brunt and his now-defunct firm, Brunt Bros. Transfer Inc., to pay $533,749 in restitution,

WBBH TV in Ft. Myers, Florida has performed a public service with its investigative reporting documenting non-US citizens voting regularly in local elections. The segment can be seen below, but Judicial Watch summarizes it: The segment focused on Lee County, which has a population of about 620,000 and Collier County with a population of around 322,000. The reporter spent about two months digging around the voter rolls in the two counties and the discoveries are dumbfounding. In that short time, more than 100 people registered to vote in those two areas were proven to be ineligible by the reporter.

The U.S. has said it is making moves to launch a search in the Indian Ocean in response to ´new information´ about the missing Malaysia Airlines plane which vanished six days ago. A White House spokesman confirmed that authorities were considering the new avenue of exploration, as a Pentagon official revealed that a destroyer from the U.S. Navy had been dispatched for the search. The plans, a development from previous searches in the South China Sea, were beginning to be put in place as a picture emerged of the doomed jet in the sky just a month ago.Scroll down for

The House approved legislation Thursday that would require the executive branch to notify Congress whenever it decides against enforcing federal law. The Faithful Execution of the Law Act is the second part of this week´s Republican plan to fight back against the Obama administration´s several decisions to selectively enforce federal law. The GOP says Obama has watered down immigration law by delaying some deportation proceedings, and continues to delay implementation of key parts of ObamaCare. Senators said Thursday they have reached a deal on a bill to renew federal unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless, announcing a bipartisan agreement that appears likely to have enough votes to clear a filibuster. The deal would provide five months of benefits, which would provide immediate relief for the 2 million who have seen their long-term benefits expire since the federal program ran out on Dec. 28. “We’re not at the finish line yet, but this is a bipartisan breakthrough,” said Sen. Jack Reed, the Rhode Island Republican who has pushed for the bill. Senate Republicans had filibustered several earlier

On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee regarding the need to provide Ukraine with economic assistance during its transition from the government of deposed President Viktor Yanukovich. The aid bill has encountered resistance from House and Senate Republicans, particularly a provision to provide aid to the International Monetary Fund which would utilize funds already allocated to the U.S. military. Following that hearing, a hot microphone caught Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) approaching Kerry and congratulating him on his testimony. It might as well have been a lifetime ago when Gil Kerlikowske began his job as the nation´s top drug official back in 2009. When President Obama appointed him to be director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy—a position known as the "drug czar"—only a dozen-plus states had legalized medical marijuana; a poll showing a minority of Americans support legalization could still be considered "record breaking;" and the disparity in sentences for users of crack and users of cocaine was still 100-1. The idea that two states would soon fully legalize the recreational use of marijuana seemed absurd.
