| Disgraced former CIA director David Petraeus slipped into a closed door hearing before the House Intelligence Committee this morning to testify about what he learned first-hand about the Sept. 11 attack in the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. Petraeus, who traveled to Libya and carried out his own investigation after the Benghazi attack, spoke and was questioned by the committee for about 90 minutes, committee chairman Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said after the hearing. Following the hearing, Petraeus moved onto a Senate Intelligence Committee in an underground meeting room within the Capitol Visitors Center.

It used to be that whenever an important news story broke, cable television viewers would quickly turn to CNN for must-see coverage of what was happening. However, according to a poll conducted regarding the five-day coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing, that is definitely no longer the case. California prisons are so overcrowded that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the conditions amount to cruel and unusual punishment. The state is caught between a tight budget and its "three strikes" law, which imposes a life sentence after convictions. Last Fall, voters approved a plan to release some of those lifers. Proposition 36 allows three-strikers to ask judges to let them out early. Forty-six-year-old Aaron Collins thought he´d only leave prison in a coffin. "Life meant that you would die in prison. Life was life," Collins said. His crime? Selling a small amount of marijuana to other inmates.

BOSTON- Female DNA was found on at least one of the bombs that exploded at the Boston Marathon but it was unclear what that means, The Wall Street Journal reported. Earlier, CNN reported the FBI has interviewed "Misha," a man who allegedly had a radicalizing influence on suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The Journal, quoting U.S. officials briefed on the investigation, reported Monday it had yet to be determined whether a woman helped the two alleged bombers, brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. NEW YORK— Technology companies are leading the stock market higher, pushing the Standard & Poor´s 500 index to another record high. A pair of strong economic reports also encouraged investors Monday. Wages and spending rose in the U.S. last month, and pending home sales hit their highest level in three years. A baby and a toddler were found dead after their mother put them both in the shower and fell asleep, an inquest heard today. Miranda Hebble, who was 22 at the time of the tragedy, left her sons Lochlan and Malachi Stevens in the steam-filled bathroom at their house in Perth, Australia, for ten hours after she passed out. When she woke up she discovered ten-month-old Malachi floating in the shower on his side with bruises on his cheek while Lochlan, two, was lying on the floor with blood coming from his mouth.

On Monday, NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd expressed his vexation with President Barack Obama’s criticisms of the media during his address at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday. Michelle Obama did not walk the E!-streamed red carpet before tonight´s White House Correspondents´ Dinner — she was already at home, of course — so our first glimpse of her black Monique Lhuillier gown came later, once dinner started. And damn does she look good. This is a sexier look on her than usual, with a sheer lace panel over her decolletage and a molded bustier-style top. She very wisely chose a dress that photographs well while she´s sitting down, Schiaparelli-style, with elaborate beading along her collarbone and fitted cap sleeves that flatter her arms. Several House Democrats are calling on Congress to recognize that climate change is hurting women more than men, and could even drive poor women to "transactional sex" for survival. The resolution, from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and a dozen other Democrats, says the results of climate change include drought and reduced agricultural output. Sanford - A new memorial was dedicated Saturday not only for Trayvon Martin, but for 10 other people who were killed in Sanford. Families of the victims used the occasion to share their stories and speak out for closure and justice. The new Trayvon Martin Memorial was established at the Goldsboro Welcome Center on Historic Goldsboro Boulevard in Sanford. It features Trayvon Martin’s name on a headstone and 10 other Sanford area residents who family members say were killed unjustly.
