| Susan Helen Adler paced the corridors of the Baltimore Museum of Art, searching for objects that once belonged to her great-great-aunt, the late Saidie Adler May. In one room, she encountered about a dozen pieces, next to plaques that read “Gift of Saidie A. May.” But Adler, hungry to see more May donations on display, quickly grew upset with how much she thought should be there. She was already frustrated that one of her great-great-aunt’s paintings, a small Renoir, had turned up in a box of junk at a West Virginia flea market.

As the articles says (obliquely), most museums are overflowing with donated items and cannot possibly display even a fraction of them. And once donated, the museums can pretty much to with them as they please.

If the art work was "on loan" from the Adlar family I could understand the family wanting a say in what is on display but that isn´t the case, the art was donated. End of discussion.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Jonathan Winters when I saw Larry’s obit this evening. Baby boomers and their parents became acquainted with Winters through his appearances on The Tonight Show first with Jack Paar and then Johnny Carson or in movies like It’s a Mad, Mad World and The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky took his message of GOP inclusion to historically black Howard University Wednesday, where he received a polite but tough reception. It was likely the fairest hearing any prominent Republican was going to get, given the GOP´s long-standing struggles with African-American support. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993.
