Short-sighted Petulance
Townhall, by Carol Platt Liebau

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/15/2012 10:06:25 PM

Hostess employees insisted on continuing a strike, even as management noted that the company couldn´t survive a prolonged union action. Now the employees won´t have jobs at all, as their action has forced the company to liquidate. On Black Friday, some Wal-Mart employees are planning on staging a walkout to protest alleged retaliation for employees who criticize the company. (Not surprisingly, union organizers -- angry that Wal-Mart isn´t unionized -- are behind a lot of the controversy.) Perhaps what all these petulant employees don´t realize is that companies are in business to earn a profit.

Comments:
They are so selfish and stupid they would rather have the business close forever rather than have a job. Yeah, that makes sense. s/o The unions did the same thing in Indianapolis with Delphi. They refused to go along with any agreements and all of them closed. I will never, ever understand that. The idiocy of some ruins lives of many.

Our compassionate government will extend unemployment benefits as long as necessary to alleviate their suffering - from 99 weeks to 199 weeks to 1,999 weeks.

The only problem is that they´ll be unable to by any Twinkies, regardless of the available balance on their EBTs.

Only 1/3 of Hostess employees are even in the Union...The Union members picketing mainly came from other states to shut down the plants. I´ll bet some people are wishing they´d have just walked right past them and done their jobs now...´cause they ain´t "their" jobs anymore

Unions shut down businesses every place they get their claws into. I´d hate to have to tally up all the businesses in northern NY that the unions shut down because of their greed.

Come on.
Get real.
These are Unions we are talking about.
Union Creed: "What is yours is mine."
The pResident will soon appoint a Czar whose task it will be to compel companies like Hostess to remain in business. Such companies will be nationalized, and all their assets given to the Union. Happened to Chrysler, now Union-owned.
Hostess is Too Big To Fail.
Remember that three-letter word, "JOBS"?
You cannot make a profit. Profits are evil.
The purpose of business is to employ people.
Just ask the Hero-In-Chief, who never employed anyone in his life.

There is one thing republicans should learn from unions, never concede. Look they never concede even when they are 100% wrong and shift the blame back to our side. They are totalitarian in nature, that I cannot respect.

35 years ago I was employed at St. Regis Paper Company as a graphic designer. One of their plants, in Texas, was battling with the union there. After months of negotiations, the union simply refused all offers and the company shut down the plant. I applauded then and I do so now.

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba -- A military judge abruptly recessed the first 9/11 trial hearing of the year Monday after defense lawyers accused the FBI in open court of trying to turn a defense team security officer into a secret informant. If true, the lawyers argued, attorney-client confidentiality may have been breached in the case that seeks to put on trial and execute five men accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 attacks that killed 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon. At issue, apparently, was the publication in January of prison camp musings by the alleged 9/11 mastermind,

Two major environmental groups will announce Monday that they are creating an alliance between their two political action arms, in an effort to expand their influence on national policymakers. The League of Conservation Voters and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund are starting LeadingGreen, a collaboration that will steer donations to federal candidates and enlist the help of major donors in lobbying elected officials. Although it was not prompted by the Supreme Court’s decision this month to strike down the overall limit on how much individuals can give candidates and political parties, LCV President Gene Karpinski said the ruling

And she´ll enter amid high political stakes, as Democrats seek to neutralize criticism of the healthcare law and maintain control of the Senate. The chairman of a key House oversight panel is calling for an investigation into what he says looks like a $175 million “slush fund” set up by the U.S. Agency for International Development to entice Afghan government officials into embracing Western-style reforms. USAID officials said they set up the U.S.-Afghan Incentive Fund without objection from lawmakers last year and that the fund has been used in coordination with the World Bank to “drive reforms” in the war-torn nation, whose government was plagued by widespread corruption and bribery long before the U.S.-led invasion began in late 2001. And U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told MSNBC early this year that voter fraud "simply does not exist to the extent that would warrant these kinds of measures." . A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

When you mention the prospect of Clinton vs. Bush 2016 a funny thing happens. First, there is the reflexive response: "Oh no, not again. We don´t need more dynastic politics in this country." But upon further reflection, you realize Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton would be a great race and actually good for the country. Let´s review. QUALIFICATIONS—THEY’VE BOTH GOT THEM. A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published
