Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney joked on Thursday that she might have pulled a "not impressed" face when meeting President Obama. McKayla Maroney ? @McKaylaMaroney Did I just do the Not Impressed face with the President..? The 16-year-old Maroney became associated with the particular expression, which turned into an Internet meme, following NBC coverage of the London Olympics. The U.S. women´s gymnastics team, known as the "fierce five," visited the White House on Thursday. They met with the president before he left to tour storm damage from Hurricane Sandy in New York.

Comments:
America´s sweetheart. She scowls for me.

MEXICO CITY – The armed vigilante groups that arose to defend communities in the western Mexican state of Michoacan from the depredations of a powerful drug cartel voiced satisfaction Monday over the arrest of one of the gang’s leaders. Jesus Vasquez, alias “El Toro”, considered one of the seven capos of the Caballeros Templarios (Knights Templar), was among 38 criminals apprehended in a joint police-military operation in Michoacan, federal authorities said Sunday. “We’re pleased by his arrest, he’s one of the people who did the most harm to society, above all in Tepalcatepec, where he was boss of the territory,”

Mexico has strongly objected to the scheduled execution in Texas of a Mexican convicted of killing a U.S. police officer, arguing that by executing him, the United States would be in "clear violation" of international treaties. Edgar Tamayo, who is scheduled to be executed on Wednesday, was convicted of shooting dead a Houston police officer in 1994 when he was in the United States illegally. But Tamayo was not informed of his right, enshrined in an international treaty known as the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to diplomatic assistance. Tamayo´s lawyers say assistance from the Mexican consulate could have helped him obtain

In an unusual move, U.S. ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy has expressed deep concern over the traditional dolphin hunt in western Japan, where local fisherman corral dolphins in a secluded bay before killing many for meat. The annual dolphin hunt currently under way in Taiji in western Japan has long been a source of controversy and was the topic of "The Cove," an Oscar-winning documentary. "(I am) deeply concerned by inhumanness of drive hunt dolphin killing," Kennedy tweeted at the weekend, adding that the U.S. government opposes drive hunt fishing. Imagine a world without the New York Times, Fox News, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and countless other tools used by the 1 percent to rule and fool. In a socialist society run by and for the working people it represents, the mega-monopolies like Walmart, Halliburton, Exxon-Mobil, and the corporations that run the tightly controlled “mainstream media” will be a thing of the past. It’s not news that the major US media are run by and for big business, or that the major media companies are themselves big businesses. Twenty years ago, thirty corporations controlled 90 percent of US media. Today, it

Like I said the other day, nobody on either side of the fight is going to oblige the Obama administration’s interminable dithering on the Keystone XL pipeline by finally backing off the politically contentious issue and letting it fade into the background of bureaucratic purgatory — not Congress, not the oil and gas industry, not the eco-radicals, and certainly not Canada — so why not just man up and make the tough decision already, either way, and have it out? Is the Republican party in this state a moderate party or is it an extreme conservative party? That’s what they’re trying to figure out. It’s a mirror of what’s going on in Washington. The US dollar reached a new record high on Thursday as purchase pressure on the so called “blue” or informal market continues pushing the price which closed 35 cents up at 11.50 pesos for buyers and 11.55 pesos for sellers. High tourist demand and mere speculation since there seems to be no roof for the US dollar in Argentina, have helped to increase the price. On Wednesday the ´blue´ dollar also hit a new record high, 11.25 Pesos. Meanwhile in the formal market at Buenos Aires City banks, the US currency was traded one cent and half higher at 6.73 pesos

The world’s richest 85 people control the same amount of wealth as the total held by half the world’s population, according to a report issued today by the British-based anti-poverty charity Oxfam. The means the world’s poorest 3,550,000,000 (3.55 billion) people must live on what the richest 85 possess. Another way to look at it: Each of the wealthiest 85 Earthlings has access to the resources available to about 42 million of the world’s poor, a population equal to the total number of people living in Canada, with those all those from Kentucky and Kansas tossed in.
