Wrench Inventor Claims Sears
Stole His Idea, Took It to China

ABC News, by David Muir & Eric Noll

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 11/15/2012 5:30:33 AM

In the small town of Cabot, Pa., Dan Brown is the proud inventor of the Bionic Wrench, a product made solely in Pennsylvania. His goal from day one was to make his invention in America. This time last year, Brown´s factory was buzzing, with his employees working overtime to fulfill holiday orders. With the help of Sears, Brown´s company sold more than 200,000 wrenches at Christmas alone. "Last year was a great year," Brown said. "We got ourselves on a commercial and Sears had us in stores. We were going crazy."

Sears has been good at this MO and have been crushing small entrepreneurs on a regular basis for years. All for the sake of a buck!

This is not the first time Sears has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. My christmas wish is that Dan Brown gets every dime he asks for. I´ve quit buying there since other stores offer equal products at lower prices.

Craftsman tools are junk. Who cares if they have a lifetime warranty if you are in the middle of a job and they break or don´t work. Their ratchet wrenches strip out very easily. I quit buying there long ago. Power tools are the same. Specs don´t match reality.

Isn´t Sears teetering on extinction??
Stealing ideas is not new, it is done all the time in all industries. The Chinese are more than happy to "knock-off" a product, making it similar and inferior.

Wouldn´t the true American way be to buy the guy out and develop and market the product as you see fit.

If they liked it they shoulda put a ring on it.

But, same problem here as in the government and electorate - virtue is out, expedience is in.

All you need to know about the modern day Sears is that K-Mart owns them.

The same K-Mart that is closing stores faster than Moochelle spends our taxpayer money.

If memory serves, Sears also stole the push button socket release some years back. They ended up paying the inventor multi millions in damages and had to pay licensing costs to continue using the feature on their wrenches. Way to go Sears! I hope they take one in the head on this one. How many times do you have to learn the lesson???

Don´t know if it´s true but I´ve heard that the current CEO, who hasn´t been there all that long, has about ruined Sears.

it´s true, 11. Ever since Lampert took control of Sears Holdings it´s been downhill. Interesting article in Forbes last Spring saying Lampert ´´ruined´´ Sears. Employees and customers would agree.

When I was a sprout, my dad swore by Craftsman tools. Would not own any other. Now, they´re just cheap krap made in China...

FTA:

"The allegations made by Mr. Brown simply are untrue and we will vigorously defend against all of the allegations raised in his lawsuit," Sears Holdings Corp. said in a statement to ABC News. "Despite some visual similarities to other tools on the market, the Craftsman Max Axess locking wrench operates in a different way, using a mechanism designed in the 1950s that Mr. Brown expressly argued to the patent office was different from his own design."

This will work itself out in the courts.

I am skeptical when I see David Muir in the byline. He is Diane Sawyer´s adoring sidekick when they do the "Made in America" schtick. This was undoubtedly one of their "investigations".

I hope that if it turns out that Sears was not guilty of any wrongdoing, the diligent Sawyer-Muir team will give that as much publicity in a followup story.

I will not hold my breath, however.

After listening to the latest secret recording made public by Mother Jones, there’s no question that Ashley Judd — and the Democratic Party — dodged a serious bullet when the actress decided not to run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).While I agree with The Fix that the dust-up over said recording of a McConnell campaign opposition research meeting is “much ado about not much” since such research is a bipartisan ritual, there was enough oppo gold to sink a Judd candidacy. Justin Timberlake concerts for King Obama… but no Blue Angels for Americans… KomoNews reports the following: SEATTLE — The annual summer Blue Angels show over Seattle has fallen victim to federal budget cuts. Seafair spokeswoman Melissa Jurcan said the festival received official word from the Navy on Tuesday morning that the fighter jet demonstration team would not be making the trip to Seattle for 2013. Sequestration prompted the Department of Defense to prohibit military aerial demonstrations along with other cost savings measures, and the Navy said it was cancelling all remaining Blue Angels performances for the year.

MIAMI -- Lilly Pulitzer hosted parties in her bare feet and wasn´t afraid to get a little messy - just as long as she looked good and had fun, too. In the late 1950s, the Palm Beach socialite had time to spare and a wealthy husband who owned citrus groves, so she opened an orange juice stand just off the island´s main shopping street. Pulitzer needed to hide all the juice stains on her clothes, though. Instead of just putting on an apron, she asked her seamstress to make some sleeveless dresses

An attempt by Colorado lawmakers to ban welfare recipients from withdrawing their benefits at ATMs located inside strip clubs was killed by Democrats Thursday night, even though the state House’s third-ranking Democratic legislator supported the measure. Democratic Rep. Pabon introduced a bill on the issue two years ago, but it didn’t clear the state Senate. State welfare recipients receive their benefits

Add the name of Michelle Lynne (ne Robert) Kosilek to the list of modern phenomena the Founding Fathers would definitely not appreciate being blamed for. Little did they know what havoc they would someday wreak by adding the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution to prohibit “cruel and unusual punishment.” Now comes Kosilek, a convicted wife murderer doing life without parole. He/she is claiming that it would be cruel and unusual punishment to deny him/her a sex-change operation — excuse me, “gender-reassignment surgery.”Not to get too graphic, but Kosilek is begging for elective amputation of a body part.

Two very bad and extremely dangerous economic developments happened yesterday — and Wall Street appeared to miss both of them. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 40.86 points to 14565.25 after the Labor Department announced that the seasonally adjusted number of new jobs created in March was just 88,000 — far below the 190,000 or so Wall Street expected. The March figure was also less than one-third the number of jobs created during February. This led to the misperception that the job market tanked in March. It didn’t.

Duck Dynasty must make liberals heads explode. It is now the most popular “non-scripted” show currently on television. Its Season 3 premiere had 8.6 million viewers and a massive 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which as you might know, is quite popular with the advertisers. At the same time, each episode ends with the entire family at the dinner table where they pray before eating. Indeed, the Robertson clan is entirely evangelical. They take their faith in Christ seriously and exert quite a bit of effort preaching the gospel. The patriarch of the family, Phil, used to live

But a lawsuit filed in state Supreme Court last November says the Met hides that policy from visitors.
