Look Who´s Refusing To

The Fiscal Cliff

Budget Talks: If President Obama wants to get a deficit deal done to avoid the fiscal cliff, his biggest challenge won´t be Republicans, but his own hard-core left-wing supporters. Two days after the election, Obama´s favorite economist, Paul Krugman, set the tone for the intransigent left in a column titled: "Let´s not make a deal." Boiled down, his advice to Obama was this: Don´t give in to any Republican demands, even if doing so would "inflict damage on a still-shaky economy." [snip] Krugman´s advice may be disturbingly cold and calculating, but he has plenty of company on the left

It´s not hard to figure. He will, with a wink & nod to his base, go through the motions of negotiating with the Republicans, scuttle any emerging deal with new demands, once again proclaim his willingness to walk McConnell´s dog and then count on the MSM to pin the blame on the GOP. The old "Nailing Jelly to the Wall" trick. Nothing new to see here.

If the US is going to spend excessive amounts on social welfare, then taxes must be raised to pay for it. Borrowing trillions from the Chinese is not an acceptable choice.

If Republicans allow current law to take effect, then they will be able to insist that spending gets cut to pay for any increase in the debt ceiling. Obama will (of course) ignore the law and exceed the debt ceiling, but this will form the basis for impeachment.

Obama wants ALL the Bush tax cuts to expire so he can point the finger at the Republican House and tell the American people that the Republicans raised taxes and lied. He also wants sequestration to fully take effect to further decimate the military and to use those funds for reparations and massive vote buying. Again, sequestration will be blamed on those nasty Republicans who won´t "come to the middle or negotiate in good faith".

Just wait ´til 2014 when the Dem ads come out.

They already said that whatever happens is the GOP´s fault. They got away with blaming Republicans when they had both houses of Congress and a Democratic president, so they will get away with blaming republicans no matter who is to blame. People don´t think --they just accept what the media tells them.

Less than half the public support a sharp boost in the minimum wage when told that it could cost the economy half a million jobs, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll out Thursday. That comes amid reports that some Senate Democrats are backing away from President Obama´s push to boost the minimum wage by 39% over the next two years, to $10.10 an hour, after the Congressional Budget Office found that it would kill 500,000 jobs. Unlike other surveys, the IBD/TIPP Poll asked two questions about the minimum wage. The first simply asked, "Do you support or oppose raising the federal minimum

Health Costs: Released into a news black hole last Friday, an official Obama administration report finds that ObamaCare will push premiums up for two-thirds of small businesses. Cross off another ObamaCare promise. The report came from the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services — which means it´s from the administration´s official ObamaCare number cruncher. What it found was that 65% of small businesses that offer insurance will likely see their premiums rise thanks to ObamaCare. That translates into higher insurance costs for 11 million workers. The reason? These companies generally employ younger, healthier workers and so had

Energy: What do you call an energy source that consumes vast tracks of open land and fries birds that cross its path? If you´re the president, you call it "safe," "reliable," "green" and worthy of massive taxpayer subsidies. That, at least, is the case with the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Station that covers a vast area of desert outside Las Vegas and, thanks to the generous support of the Obama administration, has officially opened. The plant points hundreds of thousands of mirrors at three towers to boil turbine-spinning water. But the heat rays aren´t very friendly to the area´s birds, including falcons,

Economy: Food and energy prices are rising, wages are flat and the top concern among Americans is unemployment. What was that word coined in the ´70s to describe a stagnant economy suffering inflationary pressures? Since the Obama "recovery" started 4-1/2 years ago, inflation appears to have been relatively tame, with core prices climbing just 7% from June 2009 to December 2013. But as CBS News discovered when it looked a little closer, the overall number is deceptive. In fact, it found food prices soaring. The official inflation data confirm this. Overall, food prices are up 9% since June 2009, according to the Bureau

How much does it cost taxpayers to sign up one ObamaCare enrollee? In President Obama´s home state of Hawaii, it´s $56,819. The Obama administration gave Hawaii $205 million in grants over the past three years to set up its state-run exchange. But so far, only 3,614 Hawaiians have filled out applications — just 40% of the state´s enrollment goal. Even if Hawaii were to reach its 9,000 target, it would still cost nearly $23,000 for each enrollee. [snip] Washington, D.C., meanwhile, received $133.6 million in federal grants to build its exchange, but so far has signed up just 5,090 —

Anyone following the debates over ObamaCare has been hearing a lot about "job lock" these days. "The Affordable Care Act will enable more than 2 million workers to escape ´job-lock´ — the situation where workers remain tied to employers for access to health insurance benefits," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to cite just one example. All this job-lock talk was sparked to defend ObamaCare after the Congressional Budget Office reported the work disincentives it creates will lead to the loss of the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time jobs. But it turns out that the Democrats´ claim that millions can´t escape the

Cost Curve: A little-noticed problem is fast emerging in states that decided to set up their own ObamaCare exchanges. Many of them face financial crises once the federal grant money runs out. After taking nearly $4 billion in federal grants to set up and run their exchanges this year, 14 states and the District of Columbia are supposed to be self-sufficient by next year. At least that´s what the ObamaCare statute says (which these days doesn´t mean much). But from the looks of it, many are heading into a fiscal brick wall. President Obama´s proclaimed strategy to "bypass Congress" — most conspicuously his broad rewriting of the Affordable Care Act — has given unusual prominence to a fairly arcane legal doctrine: standing. Standing is what is preventing a potential blizzard of litigation against the president´s unilateral decrees, and ironically, it´s a doctrine liberal jurists have long decried. To challenge the government in federal court, it isn´t enough to simply believe that the government´s conduct is illegal or even unconstitutional. Federal courts can hear only specific disputes about the law as applied to particular people. To be heard in court, a person must have

Obama expressed “deep concern,” the White House said, and called on Russia to withdraw its forces back to its bases in Crimea and “to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine.” Putin appeared to have given little ground, according to a readout of the conversation from his office.
